1 Đây là các châm ngôn của Sa-lô-môn: Con khôn ngoan làm cha vui thỏa; con khờ dại khiến mẹ buồn đau.
The parablis of Salomon. A wijs sone makith glad the fadir; but a fonned sone is the sorewe of his modir.
2 Của phi nghĩa chẳng ích lợi gì, nhưng đức công chính cứu người thoát chết.
Tresouris of wickidnesse schulen not profite; but riytfulnesse schal delyuere fro deth.
3 Chúa Hằng Hữu không để người công chính đói khổ, nhưng Ngài khước từ ước vọng người ác.
The Lord schal not turmente the soule of a iust man with hungur; and he schal distrie the tresouns of vnpitouse men.
4 Tay lười biếng suốt đời nghèo khó; tay siêng năng giàu có không xa.
A slow hond hath wrouyt nedynesse; but the hond of stronge men makith redi richessis. Forsothe he that enforsith to gete `ony thing bi leesyngis, fedith the wyndis; sotheli the same man sueth briddis fleynge.
5 Con khôn thu lúa tháng hè, con lười nằm ngủ ngày mùa nhục thay.
He that gaderith togidere in heruest, is a wijs sone; but he that slepith in sommer, is a sone of confusioun.
6 Phước lành trên đầu người công chính; còn miệng ác nhân đầy dẫy bạo tàn.
The blessing of God is ouer the heed of a iust man; but wickidnesse hilith the mouth of wickid men.
7 Kỷ niệm tin kính, nguồn hạnh phước, tên tuổi kẻ ác chóng tàn phai.
The mynde of a iust man schal be with preisingis; and the name of wickid men schal wexe rotun.
8 Người khôn ngoan vui nghe mệnh lệnh, người dại miệng hay bị ngã đau.
A wijs man schal resseyue comaundementis with herte; a fool is betun with lippis.
9 Ai liêm chính vững vàng tiến bước, đứa gian tham bại lộ có ngày.
He that goith simpli, goith tristili; but he that makith schrewid hise weies, schal be opyn.
10 Người châm biếm ưa gây phiền muộn, người dại miệng hay bị ngã đau.
He that bekeneth with the iye, schal yyue sorewe; a fool schal be betun with lippis.
11 Miệng người công chính như nguồn sống; còn miệng ác nhân giấu diếm bạo tàn.
The veyne of lijf is the mouth of a iust man; but the mouth of wickid men hilith wickidnesse.
12 Tính ganh ghét phát sinh tranh chấp, lòng yêu thương che đậy tội lỗi.
Hatrede reisith chidingis; and charite hilith alle synnes.
13 Khôn ngoan ra từ môi người thông sáng, roi vọt giáng trên lưng người u mê.
Wisdom is foundun in the lippis of a wise man; and a yerd in the bak of him that is nedi of herte.
14 Người khôn ngoan trau dồi trí thức, nhưng miệng ngu dại đem hủy diệt đến gần.
Wise men hiden kunnyng; but the mouth of a fool is nexte to confusioun.
15 Tiền của là sức mạnh người giàu có, nghèo nàn là thảm cảnh người lầm than
The catel of a riche man is the citee of his strengthe; the drede of pore men is the nedynesse of hem.
16 Người thiện sử dụng tiền lương nuôi dưỡng sự sống, người ác xài phí lợi tức gây ra tội lỗi.
The werk of a iust man is to lijf; but the fruyt of a wickid man is to synne.
17 Vâng lời khuyên dạy đi đường sống, chối bỏ khuyên răn bước lạc lầm.
The weie of lijf is to him that kepith chastising; but he that forsakith blamyngis, errith.
18 Ai nuôi dưỡng lòng ganh ghét có môi giả dối; buông lời phỉ báng là người điên rồ.
False lippis hiden hatrede; he that bringith forth dispisinge is vnwijs.
19 Nói năng nhiều, vi phạm càng lắm. Cầm giữ miệng lưỡi, ấy người khôn ngoan.
Synne schal not faile in myche spekyng; but he that mesurith hise lippis, is moost prudent.
20 Lưỡi người công chính như bạc quý; Tâm kẻ tiểu nhân rẻ hơn bèo.
Chosun siluer is the tunge of a iust man; the herte of wickid men is for nouyt.
21 Môi người công chính nuôi dưỡng nhiều người, nhưng người dại ngã chết vì thiếu suy xét.
The lippis of a iust man techen ful manye men; but thei that ben vnlerned, schulen die in nedinesse of herte.
22 Hạnh phước Chúa Hằng Hữu cho ta giàu có, và đuổi xa những nỗi ưu phiền.
The blessing of the Lord makith riche men; and turment schal not be felowschipid to hem.
23 Người rồ dại tìm vui trong việc ác, người thông sáng khoái lạc với khôn ngoan.
A fool worchith wickidnesse as bi leiyyng; but `wisdom is prudence to a man.
24 Người ác ghét của nào bị trao của ấy; người tin kính nhận lấy điều mình ước ao.
That that a wickid man dredith, schal come on hym; the desire of iust men schalbe youun to hem.
25 Bão thổi qua, ác nhân tan tác, người lành tin kính vững mạnh đời đời.
As a tempeste passynge, a wickid man schal not be; but a iust man schal be as an euerlastynge foundement.
26 Người biếng nhác nhọc lòng khổ chủ, như ăn phải giấm, như dầm khói cay.
As vynegre noieth the teeth, and smoke noieth the iyen; so a slow man noieth hem that senten hym in the weie.
27 Kính sợ Chúa: Ngài gia tăng tuổi thọ, đời ác nhân bị rút ngắn đi.
The drede of the Lord encreesith daies; and the yeeris of wickid men schulen be maad schort.
28 Ước vọng tin kính, niềm vui lớn, hoài bão ác nhân sớm tàn phai.
Abiding of iust men is gladnesse; but the hope of wickid men schal perische.
29 Đường lối Chúa Hằng Hữu là pháo đài cho người trong sạch, nhưng là chỗ diệt vong cho người làm ác.
The strengthe of a symple man is the weie of the Lord; and drede to hem that worchen yuel.
30 Người công chính trường tồn bất diệt, nhưng người ác không còn đất dung thân.
A iust man schal not be moued with outen ende; but wickid men schulen not dwelle on the erthe.
31 Miệng người công chính nở hoa khôn, còn lưỡi người dối gian bị cắt mất.
The mouth of a iust man schal bringe forth wisdom; the tunge of schrewis schal perische.
32 Môi công chính nói lời chính đáng, miệng ác nhân cứ mãi gian tà.
The lippis of a iust man biholden pleasaunt thingis; and the mouth of wickid men byholdith weiward thingis.
