Nê-hê-mi-a 1

1 Đây là lời tự thuật của Nê-hê-mi, con Ha-ca-lia: Vào tháng Kít-lê năm thứ hai mươi triều Ạt-ta-xét-xe, vua Ba Tư, khi tôi đang ở tại cung Su-sa,

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

2 có một anh em tên Ha-na-ni cùng vài người từ Giu-đa đến thăm. Tôi hỏi thăm họ về tình hình những người Giu-đa không bị bắt đi đày, và tình hình thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

that Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah. And I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

3 Họ cho biết những anh em thoát nạn tù đày, ở lại trong xứ hiện nay sống trong cảnh hoạn nạn, nhục nhã. Tường thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đổ nát, cổng thành cháy rụi.

And they said to me, The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. Also the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and the gates of it are burned with fire.

4 Nghe thế, tôi ngồi khóc suốt mấy ngày, kiêng ăn, kêu cầu với Đức Chúa Trời trên trời.

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days. And I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,

5 Tôi thưa: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời trên trời, Đức Chúa Trời vĩ đại, uy nghi, Đấng luôn giữ lời hứa, thương yêu người nào kính mến và tuân hành điều răn Ngài,

and said, I beseech thee, O Jehovah, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments:

6 xin Chúa nhìn thấy con đang ngày đêm cầu nguyện cho người Ít-ra-ên của Ngài; xin Chúa lắng tai nghe lời con. Con thú nhận rằng chúng con đã phạm tội với Chúa. Đúng thế, con và tổ tiên con có tội.

Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou may hearken to the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee at this time, day and night, for the sons of Israel thy servants while I confess the sins of the sons of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my father's house have sinned.

7 Chúng con làm điều rất gian ác, không tuân hành điều răn và luật lệ Chúa truyền cho Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa.

We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which thou commanded thy servant Moses.

8 Nhưng xin Chúa nhớ lại lời Ngài truyền cho Môi-se, đầy tớ Ngài: ‘Nếu các ngươi phạm tội, Ta sẽ rải các ngươi ra khắp nơi.

Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commanded thy servant Moses, saying, If ye trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples,

9 Nhưng nếu các ngươi trở lại cùng Ta, tuân hành các điều răn, dù các ngươi có bị tản mác ở tận phương trời xa xăm, Ta cũng sẽ đem các ngươi về đất Ta chọn, nơi Ta ngự.’

but if ye return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the outermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.

10 Chúng con là đầy tớ, là dân Chúa, đã được Chúa dùng quyền năng giải cứu.

Now these are thy servants and thy people whom thou have redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

11 Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, xin lắng nghe lời cầu nguyện của con và của các đầy tớ Chúa vẫn hết lòng kính sợ Danh Ngài. Hôm nay, xin cho con được may mắn, được vua đoái thương.” Lúc ấy tôi là người dâng rượu cho vua.

O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name, and, I pray thee, prosper thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king.
