Giô-sua 10
1 A-đô-ni-xê-đéc, vua Giê-ru-sa-lem khiếp sợ khi nghe Giô-suê chiếm và tiêu diệt A-hi, giết vua thành ấy như Giô-suê đã làm tại Giê-ri-cô, lại được tin Ga-ba-ôn đã kết hòa ước và đứng về phía Ít-ra-ên.
And it came to pass, when Adonizedec, king of Jerusalem, heard that Joshua had captured Ai, and devoted it to destruction, as he had done unto Jericho and her king, so, had he done unto Ai and her king, —and that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and had come into their midst,
2 Ga-ba-ôn là một thành lớn vào loại đế đô, lớn hơn A-hi nhiều, lại có nhiều người dũng cảm.
then feared they greatly, because Gibeon was, a great city, as one of the royal cities, —and because, it, was greater than Ai, and, all the men thereof, were mighty:
3 Thế nên, A-đô-ni-xê-đéc, vua Giê-ru-sa-lem sai người đến nói với Hô-ham, vua Hếp-rôn, Phi-ram, vua Giạt-mút, Gia-phia, vua La-ki, và Đê-bia, vua Éc-lôn:
therefore sent Adonizedec, king of Jerusalem, unto Hoham, king of Hebron, and unto Piram, king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia, king of Lachish, and unto Debir, king of Eglon, saying:
4 “Xin đến đây giúp tôi đánh Ga-ba-ôn vì họ đã kết hòa ước với Giô-suê và người Ít-ra-ên.”
Come up unto me and help me, that we may smite Gibeon, —for it hath made peace with Joshua, and with the sons of Israel.
5 Vậy, năm vua người A-mô-rít (vua Giê-ru-sa-lem, Hếp-rôn, Giạt-mút, La-ki, và Éc-lôn) liên minh kéo quân đến đánh thành Ga-ba-ôn.
So they gathered themselves together and came up, even the five kings of the Amorites—the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, —they, and all their hosts, —and encamped near Gibeon, and made war against it.
6 Người Ga-ba-ôn sai người đến Ghinh-ganh cầu cứu với Giô-suê: “Xin đừng bỏ chúng tôi! Xin đến cứu chúng tôi, vì tất cả các vua A-mô-rít ở miền đồi núi đang liên minh kéo đến tấn công.”
So the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, saying, Do not withhold thy hand from thy servants, —Come up unto us quickly, and save us, and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country, are gathered together against us.
7 Từ Ghinh-ganh, Giô-suê dẫn toàn quân ra đi.
So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, even all the mighty men of valour.
8 Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Đừng sợ, vì Ta nạp tính mạng họ vào tay con, không ai kháng cự với con được.”
And Yahweh said unto Joshua: Do not fear because of them, for, into thy hand, have I delivered them, —not a man of them shall stand before thee.
9 Vậy, Giô-suê rời Ghinh-ganh, đi suốt đêm, đến tấn công đột ngột.
So then Joshua came in unto them, suddenly, —all the night, came he up, from Gilgal.
10 Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến địch quân hoảng hốt. Vì thế, quân Ít-ra-ên chém giết vô số địch quân ở Ga-ba-ôn, và đuổi theo đám tàn quân chạy xuống dốc Bết-hô-rôn, chận giết họ tại A-xê-ca và Ma-kê-đa.
And Yahweh confused them before Israel, and smote them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, —and chased them along the way that goeth up Beth-horon, and smote them as far as Azekah and as far as Makkedah.
11 Khi quân địch bị đuổi chạy xuống dốc Bết-hô-rôn, Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng một trận mưa đá rất lớn trên họ từ đó cho đến A-xê-ca. Số người chết vì mưa đá nhiều hơn cả số chết vì lưỡi gươm của người Ít-ra-ên.
And it came to pass, when they fled from before Israel, they, being on the slope of Beth-horon, that, Yahweh, cast down upon them great stones out of the heavens, as far as Azekah, and they died, —more, were they who died by the hailstones, than they whom the sons of Israel slew with the sword.
12 Trong ngày Chúa Hằng Hữu phó dân A-mô-rít vào tay dân Ít-ra-ên, Giô-suê cầu nguyện trước toàn quân. Ông nói: “Cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu cho mặt trời dừng lại trên Ga-ba-ôn, mặt trăng dừng lại trên thung lũng A-gia-lôn.”
Then, spake Joshua unto Yahweh, on the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, —yea he said, in the presence of Israel—Thou Sun! in Gibeon, be still, and thou Moon! in the vale of Aijalon.
13 Bóng mặt trời không di động, mặt trăng không chuyển vần cho đến lúc quân Ít-ra-ên tiêu diệt xong quân thù. Việc này được chép trong Sách Gia-sa. Người ta thấy ánh dương vẫn tiếp tục chiếu sáng vòm trời thêm chừng một ngày nữa, chưa vội tắt.
So the sun, was still, and, the moon, stayed, until a nation should be avenged on its foes. Is not, that, written in the Book of the Upright? So then the sun stayed in the middle of the heavens, and hastened not to go in, about a whole day.
14 Trong quá khứ cũng như tương lai, không có một ngày nào như hôm ấy; vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã nhậm lời cầu nguyện của một người, và Ngài chiến đấu cho Ít-ra-ên.
And there was no day like that—before it or after it, when Yahweh hearkened unto the voice of a man, —in that, Yahweh, himself fought for Israel.
15 Sau đó, Giô-suê rút quân về Ghinh-ganh.
So Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp at Gilgal.
16 Trong lúc giao tranh, năm vua trốn vào một hang đá tại Ma-kê-đa.
So these five kings fled, —and hid themselves in a cave, at Makkedah.
17 Người ta báo tin cho Giô-suê rằng: “Năm vua đã trốn trong một hang đá tại Ma-kê-đa.”
And it was told Joshua, saying, —The five kings are found, hid in a cave at Makkedah.
18 Giô-suê ra lệnh: “Hãy lăn đá lấp miệng hang rồi cử người canh gác cẩn thận.
And Joshua said, Roll ye great stones against the mouth of the cave, —and set over it men, to watch them;
19 Những người khác cứ tiếp tục đuổi theo địch quân, tấn công từ phía sau vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em đã giao tính mạng họ vào tay chúng ta.”
but do not, ye, stay, chase after your enemies, so shall ye attack them in the rear, —do not suffer them to enter into their cities, for Yahweh your God hath delivered them into your hand.
20 Giô-suê và người Ít-ra-ên đã đánh chúng đại bại đến nỗi tuyệt diệt, chỉ còn một số ít chạy thoát vào các thành kiên cố mà thôi.
And it came to pass, when Joshua and the sons of Israel had made an end of smiting them with a very great slaughter, until they were spent, then did, the remainder that were left of them, enter into the fortified cities.
21 Quân Ít-ra-ên rút về với Giô-suê tại trại Ma-kê-đa, an toàn. Sau các việc đó không ai dám mở miệng nói lời nào chống lại Ít-ra-ên.
And all the people returned unto the camp, unto Joshua at Makkedah, in peace, —none sharpened his tongue at any man of the sons of Israel.
22 Giô-suê hạ lệnh mở cửa hang, đem năm vua ra.
Then said Joshua, Open ye the mouth of the cave, —and bring out unto me, these five kings, out of the cave.
23 Họ tuân lệnh, đưa năm vua ra khỏi hang, dẫn đến cho Giô-suê. Đó là các Vua Giê-ru-sa-lem, Hếp-rôn, Giạt-mút, La-ki, và Éc-lôn.
And they did so, and brought out unto him, these five kings, out of the cave, —namely, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.
24 Giô-suê bảo các tướng của quân đội: “Hãy đến đây, giẫm chân lên cổ các vua này.” Họ tuân lệnh.
And it came to pass, when they brought out these kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war who had been with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. So they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
25 Và Giô-suê nói tiếp: “Đừng sợ, hãy can đảm và bền chí vì Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ làm như vậy cho kẻ thù của các anh em là những người mà các anh em phải chống cự.”
Then said Joshua unto them: Do not fear, nor be alarmed, —be firm and bold, for, thus and thus, will Yahweh do unto all your enemies, against whom ye do fight.
26 Nói xong, Giô-suê giết chết năm vua ấy, đem xác treo trên năm cây cột cho đến tối.
And Joshua smote them after this, and put them to death, and hanged them upon five trees, —and they remained hung on the trees, until the evening,
27 Lúc mặt trời lặn, Giô-suê cho người gỡ xác từ trên cột xuống, đem ném vào hang nơi họ đã trốn trước đó. Người ta lấy đá lớn lấp miệng hang lại, và đá ấy vẫn còn cho đến nay.
And it came to pass, at the time of the going in of the sun, that Joshua gave command, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave, where they had hid themselves, —and put great stones upon the mouth of the cave, [which remain], until this very day.
28 Cùng ngày hôm ấy, Giô-suê chiếm thành Ma-kê-đa, dùng gươm giết cả vua lẫn dân thành ấy không sót một người. Vậy, vua Ma-kê-đa cũng chịu đồng số phận như vua Giê-ri-cô.
And Joshua captured, Makkedah, on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and, the king thereof, devoted he to destruction, them and all the souls that were therein, he left no survivor, —but did unto the king of Makkedah, as he had done unto the king of Jericho.
29 Sau đó, Giô-suê đem quân tấn công Líp-na.
And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah unto Libnah, —and fought against Libnah;
30 Chúa Hằng Hữu giao vua và thành Líp-na cho Ít-ra-ên, họ không để một ai sống sót. Vua Líp-na cũng chịu chung số phận với vua Giê-ri-cô.
and Yahweh delivered, it also, into the hand of Israel, with the king thereof, and he smote it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls that were therein, he left therein no survivor, —but did unto the king thereof, as he had done unto the king of Jericho.
31 Từ Líp-na, Giô-suê kéo quân đến La-ki. Sau khi cắm trại, họ tấn công thành.
And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Libnah unto Lachish, —and encamped against it, and fought against it;
32 Vào ngày thứ hai, Chúa Hằng Hữu ban cho người Ít-ra-ên thành La-ki. Ở đây, họ cũng tàn sát như tại Líp-na.
and Yahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, and he captured it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls that were therein, —according to all that he had done unto Libnah.
33 Hô-ram vua Ghê-xe đem quân cứu viện La-ki, nhưng cũng bị quân của Giô-suê tiêu diệt.
Then, came up Horam, king of Gezer, to help Lachish, —and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had not left him a survivor.
34 Giô-suê kéo quân từ La-ki đến Éc-lôn. Hạ trại xong, họ tấn công thành.
And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Lachish unto Eglon, —and they encamped against it, and fought against it;
35 Quân Ít-ra-ên chiếm thành Éc-lôn ngay hôm ấy, giết hết mọi người cũng như ở La-ki.
and captured it on the same day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and, all the souls that were therein, on that day, devoted he to destruction, —according to all that he had done to Lachish.
36 Từ Éc-lôn, Giô-suê kéo quân đi tấn công Hếp-rôn.
And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, from Eglon unto Hebron, —and they fought against it;
37 Họ chiếm Hếp-rôn và các thành phụ cận, giết hết dân cư ở đó cũng như ở Éc-lôn, không sót một người.
and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, with all the souls that were therein—he left not a survivor, according to all that he had done to Eglon, —he devoted it to destruction, and all the souls that were therein.
38 Sau đó, Giô-suê đem quân về tấn công thành Đê-bia.
Then Joshua turned back, and all Israel with him, unto Debir, —and fought against it;
39 Ít-ra-ên chiếm Đê-bia và các thành phụ cận, không để cho một ai sống sót cũng như tại Hếp-rôn và Líp-na.
and captured it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and devoted to destruction every soul that was therein, he left not a survivor, —as he had done unto Hebron, so, did he unto Debir, and unto the king thereof, as also he had done unto Libnah, and unto her king.
40 Vậy, Giô-suê bình định lãnh thổ, từ miền núi Nê-ghép cho đến đồng bằng và chân đồi, cả miền nam, tiêu diệt các vua, không để cho một người dân sống sót, đúng theo lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên.
So Joshua smote all the land—the hill country, and the south, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings, he left not a survivor, —but, every breathing thing, devoted he to destruction, as Yahweh, God of Israel, had commanded.
41 Giô-suê bình trị từ Ca-đê Ba-nê-a đến Ga-xa, từ Gô-sen đến Ga-ba-ôn.
Yea Joshua smote them, from Kadesh-barnea, even as far as Gaza, —and all the land of Goshen, even as far as Gibeon.
42 Giô-suê bắt các vua này và lãnh thổ của họ đồng loạt bị chinh phục, vì chính Chúa chiến đấu cho Ít-ra-ên.
Yea, all these kings and their land, did Joshua capture at one time, —because, Yahweh, God of Israel, fought for Israel.
43 Sau đó, Giô-suê rút quân về trại Ghinh-ganh.
And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp at Gilgal.
