1 “Loài người biết nơi để đào lấy bạc, và biết cách luyện vàng.
For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
2 Họ biết cách lấy sắt lấy ra từ đất, và biết cách làm đồng chảy ra từ quặng.
For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
3 Họ biết chiếu rọi ánh sáng trong bóng tối, dò tìm trong nơi sâu nhất để kiếm quặng kim loại trong chỗ tối đen nhất.
He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Người ta đào đường hầm trong đất, cách xa nơi người ở. Họ dòng dây đong đưa lui tới.
There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [among] men.
5 Đất sinh ra lương thực, nhưng lòng đất đang bị lửa biến đổi.
[As for] the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
6 Ở đó lam ngọc ra từ đá, trong bụi nó có mạt vàng.
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.
7 Đây là những kho báu chim trời không hề bay tới, mắt chim ưng cũng không hề nhìn thấy.
[There is] a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
8 Không một dã thú nào bén mảng; cả sư tử cũng chưa đặt chân.
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
9 Con người chẻ được đá lửa và khai hoang chân núi.
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock], and turned up mountains by the roots:
10 Họ đào hầm xuyên núi, mắt thấy được mọi kho tàng quý bên trong.
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
11 Người tìm cho ra nguồn của sông suối và khám phá ra nhiều điều bí ẩn.
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
12 Nhưng loài người tìm khôn ngoan ở đâu? Nơi nào họ có thể tìm tri thức?
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
13 Thật ra không ai biết tìm nó ở đâu, vì không thể tìm tại nơi người sống.
A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.
14 Vực sâu rằng: ‘Nó không có trong tôi.’ Biển nói: ‘Nó cũng không ở với tôi.’
The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
15 Khôn ngoan không thể mua bằng vàng ròng. Giá nó cũng không thể lấy bạc mà lường.
One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
16 Giá trị nó hơn cả vàng ô-phia, ngọc mã não, ngọc lam cũng không mua được.
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
17 Vàng hay pha lê không so được với khôn ngoan. Không đổi được bằng bình vàng ròng.
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
18 Ngọc san hô hoặc các bảo vật bằng thủy tinh cũng vô giá trị, Vì khôn ngoan còn đắt giá hơn hồng ngọc.
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do thou esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
19 Hoàng ngọc Ê-thi-ô-pi không so được với nó. Dù có vàng ròng cũng không tài nào mua được.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
20 Vậy, loài người tìm khôn ngoan ở đâu? Họ có thể tìm tri thức ở nơi nào?
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
21 Nó ẩn giấu khỏi mắt mọi sinh vật. Kể cả mắt tinh của chim trời cũng không thể tìm được nó.
It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
22 Âm Phủ và Sự Chết nói rằng: ‘Tiếng đồn về nó có đến tai chúng tôi.’
Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
23 Chỉ Đức Chúa Trời hiểu con đường đến sự khôn ngoan; Ngài biết tìm nó ở nơi đâu,
God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
24 vì Ngài thấu suốt đầu cùng đất, và thấy rõ mọi vật dưới tầng trời.
For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
25 Chúa ấn định sức mạnh cho gió, và đo lường mưa đổ bao nhiêu.
all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
26 Khi Chúa định luật lệ cho mưa và vạch đường cho sấm chớp.
When he made [them], thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
27 Lúc ấy Chúa tìm và thẩm định giá trị của khôn ngoan. Ngài xác nhận và thử nghiệm nó.
Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.
28 Đây là điều Chúa phán bảo con người: ‘Kính sợ Chúa đó là sự khôn ngoan; tránh xa tội ác đó là điều tri thức.’”
And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.
