1 Rồi Gióp đáp lời:
Job replied,
2 “Anh cho rằng mình biết mọi thứ, có phải không? Và khi anh chết, sự khôn ngoan sẽ chết theo anh!
“You really think you're special people, don't you? Obviously when you die, wisdom will die with you!
3 Nhưng tôi cũng biết như các anh— thật, anh chẳng có gì hơn tôi. Ai lại không biết những điều anh vừa nói?
But I too have insights, and you're no better than me. Doesn't everyone know the things you've said?
4 Bạn bè của tôi nhạo cười tôi, vì tôi kêu cầu Đức Chúa Trời và được Ngài đáp trả. Tôi là người công chính và không gì chê trách, nên họ cười chê tôi.
But my friends laugh at me because I called on God and he answered me: the innocent man who does right has become an object of derision.
5 Người nhàn hạ chế giễu người bạc phước, khinh bỉ kẻ lỡ bước sa cơ.
People who are comfortable have contempt for those who are in trouble, ready to push over those who are already slipping.
6 Còn kẻ trộm cướp được hưng thịnh, và người chọc giận Đức Chúa Trời sống an vui— lại được Đức Chúa Trời gìn giữ trong tay Ngài.
Robbers live in peace, and those who make God angry live in safety, trusting their own strength as their ‘god.’
7 Hãy hỏi loài thú, và chúng sẽ dạy anh. Hỏi loài chim, và chim sẽ trả lời.
But if you ask the animals they will teach you, the birds in the sky will tell you;
8 Hãy hỏi đất, và đất sẽ hướng dẫn. Hãy để loài cá trong đại dương nói với anh.
ask the earth and it will teach you, and the fishes in the sea will tell you.
9 Vì tất cả chúng đều biết rằng thảm họa của tôi đến từ tay Chúa Hằng Hữu.
Which of all these doesn't know that the Lord has done this?
10 Vì hồn mọi sinh vật trong tay Chúa, và cả hơi thở của con người.
He gives life to every living thing, life to all humankind.
11 Tai biết phân biệt lời nói như miệng biết nếm thức ăn ngon.
The ear distinguishes words just like the palate distinguishes foods.
12 Già cả thêm khôn ngoan, và sống lâu thêm hiểu biết.
Wisdom to distinguish belongs to the old, and the ability to rightly discriminate belongs to those with long experience.
13 Nhưng khôn ngoan thật và sức mạnh thuộc về Đức Chúa Trời; Chúa biết mọi người và hiểu thấu.
God has wisdom and power, counsel and understanding belong to him.
14 Chúa đã phá hủy thì không ai xây lại được. Khi Ngài bắt giữ, chẳng ai thoát thân.
If he tears something down, nobody can rebuild it. If he imprisons someone, nobody can free them.
15 Nếu Chúa cầm giữ mưa, đất đai liền khô hạn. Nếu Ngài trút đổ mưa, lũ lụt tràn khắp đất.
If God holds back the waters, everything dries up; if he releases the waters, the earth floods.
16 Phải, sức mạnh và sự khôn ngoan thuộc về Chúa; Chúa nắm gọn trong tay kẻ lừa gạt lẫn người bị lừa.
He is mighty and victorious; both deceivers and those deceived are subject to him.
17 Chúa khiến các mưu sĩ đi chân đất; các phán quan ra ngu dại.
He leads counselors away stripped of their wisdom, he makes judges into fools.
18 Chúa tháo bỏ áo bào của các vua. Họ bị dẫn đi với dây buộc nơi lưng.
He removes the chains of office from kings and makes them wear loincloths.
19 Chúa dẫn các thầy tế lễ đi khỏi, tước mọi địa vị; Ngài lật đổ kẻ đã cầm quyền lâu năm.
He leads priests away stripped of their religious garments, he overthrows the powerful.
20 Chúa khiến kẻ cố vấn đáng tin cậy im lặng, và lấy đi trí phán đoán của các trưởng lão.
He takes away the advice of trusted advisors, he removes the discernment of the elders.
21 Chúa giáng điều sỉ nhục trên người cao sang quý tộc, và tước đoạt sức mạnh của kẻ nắm quyền hành.
He pours scorn upon princes and takes away power from the strong.
22 Chúa đem việc tối tăm ra ánh sáng; Ngài chiếu rạng cả bóng tử vong.
He reveals what is hidden in darkness, and brings into the light the shadow of death.
23 Chúa gây dựng các dân tộc, rồi Ngài hủy diệt họ. Chúa mở rộng bờ cõi, rồi Ngài từ bỏ chúng.
He makes nations great and he destroys them; he expands nations and ruins them.
24 Chúa tước đoạt sự hiểu biết của các vua cho họ lạc lõng bơ vơ trong hoang vu không lối.
He removes the understanding of rulers and makes them wander in the wilderness.
25 Họ quờ quạng trong bóng tối không ánh sáng. Chúa khiến họ lảo đảo như người say.”
They grope around in the dark without a light. He makes them stagger like drunk people.
