Giê-rê-mi-a 41

1 Đến tháng bảy, Ích-ma-ên, con Nê-tha-nia, cháu Ê-li-sa-ma, thuộc hoàng tộc và là một trong các tướng chỉ huy của vua, cùng mười người đến Mích-pa gặp Ghê-đa-lia. Trong khi họ ăn bánh với nhau tại đó,

Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.

2 Ích-ma-ên và mười người ấy đột nhiên đứng dậy, rút gươm đâm chết Ghê-đa-lia, là người được vua Ba-by-lôn đặt làm tổng trấn trong xứ.

Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

3 Ích-ma-ên cũng giết mọi người Do Thái ở tại Mích-pa với Ghê-đa-lia, cùng với quân lính Ba-by-lôn đang đóng tại đó.

Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, even the men of war.

4 Ngày thứ hai, trước khi mọi người hay tin về việc Ghê-đa-lia bị ám sát,

And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

5 thì có tám mươi người từ Si-chem, Si-lô, và Sa-ma-ri kéo nhau lên Đền Thờ để thờ phượng Chúa Hằng Hữu. Họ cạo đầu, xé áo, rạch da thịt rồi mang theo các lễ vật và trầm hương.

that there came certain men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with meal-offerings and frankincense in their hand to bring them to the house of the LORD.

6 Ích-ma-ên thấy họ đi ngang Mích-pa, liền ra nghênh đón, vừa đi vừa khóc. Ích-ma-ên đến cùng họ mà nói rằng: “Ôi, hãy đến và xem chuyện xảy ra cho Ghê-đa-lia!”

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them: 'Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.'

7 Khi họ vào trong thành, Ích-ma-ên và các thủ hạ lập tức tàn sát bảy mươi người trong nhóm ấy, rồi ném xác xuống một hồ chứa nước.

And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.

8 Còn mười người sống sót xin Ích-ma-ên tha với lời hứa là họ sẽ mang đến ông các kho lúa mì, lúa mạch, dầu ô-liu, và mật ong mà họ đã cất giấu.

But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael: 'Slay us not; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey.' So he forbore, and slew them not among their brethren.

9 Hồ chứa nước, nơi Ích-ma-ên quăng thi hài của những người bị giết vào đó, là một hồ lớn do Vua A-sa xây để tăng cường hệ thống phòng thủ Mích-pa trong cuộc chiến với Vua Ba-ê-sa, nước Ít-ra-ên. Ích-ma-ên, con Nê-tha-nia, lấp hồ bằng thây người.

Now the pit wherein Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain by the side of Gedaliah was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasa king of Israel; the same Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled with them that were slain.

10 Ích-ma-ên bắt làm tù binh các công chúa và dân chúng còn sót lại mà Nê-bu-xa-ra-đan để lại Mích-pa dưới quyền cai trị của Ghê-đa-lia, rồi dẫn hết qua xứ Am-môn.

Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

11 Giô-ha-nan, con Ca-rê-át, và các thủ lĩnh quân lưu tán nghe chuyện ác mà Ích-ma-ên đã làm,

But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

12 họ liền tập họp toàn thể lực lượng đi đánh Ích-ma-ên. Họ đuổi theo ông tại hồ lớn gần hồ Ga-ba-ôn.

then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

13 Đoàn dân bị Ích-ma-ên bắt đều reo mừng khi thấy Giô-ha-nan và các quân lưu tán.

Now it came to pass, that when all the people that were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

14 Tất cả những người bị bắt dẫn đi từ Mích-pa đều trốn chạy và họ bắt đầu giúp Giô-ha-nan.

So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.

15 Còn Ích-ma-ên cùng tám thủ hạ thoát khỏi tay Giô-ha-nan, trốn qua xứ Am-môn.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

16 Giô-ha-nan, con Ca-rê-át, và các thủ lĩnh quân lưu tán tập họp những người sống sót được cứu khỏi Ích-ma-ên, là những người mà hắn đã bắt đi tại Mích-pa sau vụ ám sát Ghê-đa-lia, con A-hi-cam, cùng tất cả binh sĩ, nội giám, phụ nữ, và trẻ con rời khỏi Ga-ba-ôn.

Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the men, even the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the officers, whom he had brought back from Gibeon;

17 Họ khởi hành, sau đó tạm dừng tại Ghê-rút Kim-ham, gần Bết-lê-hem, trên đường xuống Ai Cập.

and they departed, and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Beth-lehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

18 Vì họ sợ quân Ba-by-lôn trả thù khi nghe tin Ích-ma-ên ám sát Ghê-đa-lia mà vua Ba-by-lôn đã lập làm tổng trấn trong xứ.

because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.
