Giê-rê-mi-a 37
1 Sê-đê-kia, con Giô-si-a, thế vị Giê-cô-nia, con Giê-hô-gia-kim, làm vua Giu-đa. Người được Vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, nước Ba-by-lôn, chỉ định lên ngôi vua.
Now King Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, reigned instead of Coniah, the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, made king in the land of Judah.
2 Nhưng cả Vua Sê-đê-kia, các triều thần cho đến cả dân còn sót trong xứ đều không chịu nghe những gì Chúa Hằng Hữu phán qua Giê-rê-mi.
But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land regarded the words of Jehovah, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
3 Tuy nhiên, Vua Sê-đê-kia sai Giê-hu-canh, con Sê-lê-mia, và Thầy Tế lễ Sê-pha-nia, con Ma-a-xê-gia, đến cầu xin Giê-rê-mi: “Xin ông vì chúng tôi cầu khẩn Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta.”
And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal, the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “Pray now to Jehovah our God for us.”
4 Bấy giờ, Giê-rê-mi chưa bị giam nên còn đi lại tự do.
Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not cast him into prison.
5 Lúc ấy, đội quân của Pha-ra-ôn từ Ai Cập tiến vào lãnh thổ phía nam Giu-đa. Quân Canh-đê hay tin ấy liền rút khỏi Giê-ru-sa-lem.
And Pharaoh's army had come forth out of Egypt; and the Chaldaeans, who were besieging Jerusalem, having heard tidings of them, had departed from Jerusalem.
6 Chúa Hằng Hữu ban sứ điệp này cho Giê-rê-mi:
Then came the word of Jehovah to Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
7 “Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán: Vua Giu-đa sẽ sai con đến cầu hỏi Ta về các việc sẽ xảy ra. Hãy trả lời rằng: ‘Quân của Pha-ra-ôn đến giúp ngươi nhưng sẽ bị thất trận và bỏ chạy về Ai Cập.
Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of me: Behold, the army of Pharaoh, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt, into their own land.
8 Người Canh-đê sẽ quay lại, chiếm đóng, và thiêu đốt thành này!’”
And the Chaldaeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
9 “Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Đừng tự nghĩ rằng quân Ba-by-lôn đã rút khỏi. Chúng không bỏ đi đâu!
Thus saith Jehovah: Deceive not yourselves, saying, “The Chaldaeans shall surely depart from us”; for they shall not depart.
10 Dù cho các ngươi có đánh tan quân Ba-by-lôn đến nỗi chỉ còn lại những thương binh, thì chúng cũng vùng dậy, bỏ trại kéo ra, đốt tan thành này.”
For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldaeans that fight against you, and there remained only wounded men among them, each one in his tent, yet should they rise up and burn this city with fire.
11 Khi quân Ba-by-lôn rút khỏi Giê-ru-sa-lem vì quân Pha-ra-ôn đang tiến đánh,
And it came to pass, when the army of the Chaldaeans had marched away from Jerusalem because of the army of Pharaoh,
12 Giê-rê-mi cũng vừa rời khỏi thành lên đường đến xứ Bên-gia-min để nhận miếng đất đã mua.
that Jeremiah was going forth from Jerusalem, to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive thence his inheritance among the people.
13 Nhưng mới vừa đi qua Cổng Bên-gia-min, thì ông bị một tên lính canh bắt và buộc tội: “Ông là người bỏ chạy theo quân Ba-by-lôn!” Người lính canh bắt giữ ông là Di-rê-gia, con Sê-lê-mia, cháu Ha-na-nia.
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “Thou art going over to the Chaldaeans.”
14 Giê-rê-mi đáp: “Ngươi nói bậy! Ta không hề có ý như vậy.” Nhưng Di-rê-gia không nghe, cứ bắt Giê-rê-mi giải lên cho các quan.
And Jeremiah said, “It is false; I am not going over to the Chaldaeans.” But he hearkened not to him; so Irijah took Jeremiah and brought him to the princes.
15 Họ tức giận với Giê-rê-mi nên tra tấn rồi giam vào nhà của Thư ký Giô-na-than. Nhà của Giô-na-than trở thành nhà giam.
And the princes were enraged against Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that a prison.
16 Giê-rê-mi bị giam trong buồng tối dưới hầm và ở đó lâu ngày.
And when Jeremiah had gone into the dungeon, and into the cells, and had remained there a long time,
17 Sau đó, Vua Sê-đê-kia bí mật ra lệnh giải Giê-rê-mi vào cung, vua hỏi ông: “Có phải ông nhận sứ điệp từ Chúa Hằng Hữu không?” Giê-rê-mi đáp: “Thưa vua, có! Vua sẽ bị nộp vào tay vua Ba-by-lôn.”
then Zedekiah the king sent and took him out; and the king asked him in his house privately, and said, “Hast thou any word from Jehovah?” And Jeremiah said, “I have.” And he said, “Into the hand of the king of Babylon shalt thou be delivered.”
18 Rồi Giê-rê-mi hỏi vua Sê-đê-kia: “Tôi đã phạm tội gì? Tôi có làm gì chống lại vua, các cận thần của vua, hay dân chúng để phải bị bỏ tù như thế?
And Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, What offence have I committed against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
19 Còn những tiên tri đã quả quyết với vua rằng vua Ba-by-lôn chẳng bao giờ tiến đánh vua hay xâm lăng đất nước này, bây giờ họ ở đâu?
And where are your prophets, who prophesied to you, saying, “The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?”
20 Xin hãy nghe, muôn tâu chúa tôi, tôi thỉnh cầu vua. Xin đừng trả tôi về nhà Thư ký Giô-na-than, vì tôi sẽ chết tại đó.”
But now hear, I pray thee, my lord the king! let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee, and cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there!
21 Vậy Vua Sê-đê-kia ra lệnh không để Giê-rê-mi trở lại hầm tối. Thay vào đó, vua giam Giê-rê-mi trong sân thị vệ của hoàng cung. Vua còn ra lệnh cấp cho Giê-rê-mi mỗi ngày một ổ bánh, cho đến ngày trong thành hết bánh. Vậy, Giê-rê-mi bị giam trong ngục hoàng cung.
Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city should be consumed. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
