Ha-gai 1
1 Ngày mồng một tháng sáu năm thứ hai đời Vua Đa-ri-út, Tiên tri A-gai truyền lại lời Chúa Hằng Hữu cho tổng trấn Giu-đa, Xô-rô-ba-bên, con Sa-anh-thi-ên, và thầy thượng tế Giô-sua, con Giô-sa-đác.
In the second year of king Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came, by the hand of Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying:
2 Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: “Dân này nói: ‘Chưa đến lúc xây lại nhà của Chúa Hằng Hữu.’”
Thus says the Lord of hosts, saying: This people claims that the time has not yet arrived for building the house of the Lord.
3 Nhưng lời của Chúa Hằng Hữu qua Tiên tri A-gai phán rằng:
But the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
4 “Thế thì, đây có phải là lúc các ngươi ở trong nhà sang lót ván cẩn thận, còn nhà Ta lại đổ nát tiêu điều?
Is it time for you to dwell in paneled houses, while this house is deserted?
5 Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán thế này: Thử xét xem cuộc sống các ngươi ra sao!
And now, thus says the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts upon your ways.
6 Các ngươi gieo nhiều nhưng gặt ít. Ngươi ăn mà không no. Ngươi uống mà không đã khát. Ngươi mặc mà vẫn không đủ ấm, tiền lương tiêu phí hết như bỏ vào túi thủng!
You sowed much and have brought in little. You consumed and have not been satisfied. You drank and have not been inebriated. You covered yourselves and have not been warmed. And whoever gathered wages, has put them in a bag with holes.
7 Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán: Thử nghĩ xem các ngươi có khá không!
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts upon your ways.
8 Cho nên, bây giờ hãy lên núi đốn gỗ, đem về cất nhà cho Ta. Khi Ta vui lòng thì vinh quang Ta sẽ hiện ra tại đó.
Ascend to the mountain, bring wood and build the house, and it shall be acceptable to me, and I shall be glorified, says the Lord.
9 Các ngươi mong ước nhiều, nhưng được ít. Những gì còn lại khi đem về nhà lại bị Ta làm cho tiêu tán hết. Tại sao? Vì nhà Ta đổ nát, Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân phán, trong khi các ngươi chỉ lo cho nhà riêng mình.
You have looked for more, and behold, it became less, and you brought it home, and I blew it away. What is the cause of this, says the Lord of hosts? It is because my house is desolate, yet you have hurried, each one to his own house.
10 Thế nên, Ta không cho sương rơi xuống và đất không sinh sản hoa mầu.
Because of this, the heavens over you have been prohibited from giving dew, and the earth has been prohibited from giving her sprouts.
11 Ta gọi hạn hán đến trên đất, trên miền cao nguyên—làm khô héo thóc lúa, nho, ô-liu và các mùa màng khác, các ngươi và bầy gia súc phải đói khát, công việc các ngươi làm đều chịu ảnh hưởng nặng nề của cuộc hạn hán này.”
And I called a drought over the land, and over the mountains, and over the wheat, and over the wine, and over the oil, and whatever the soil would bring forth, and over men, and over beasts of burden, and over all the labor of hands.
12 Vậy, Xô-rô-ba-bên, con Sa-anh-thi-ên, và thầy thượng tế Giô-sua, con Giô-sa-đác, và những con dân của Đức Chúa Trời còn sót lại trong nước vâng theo lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời mình. Khi nghe lời của Tiên tri A-gai, người được Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của họ sai đến, nên họ tỏ lòng kính sợ trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people heeded the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, just as the Lord their God sent him to them. And the people were fearful before the face of the Lord.
13 Rồi A-gai, sứ giả của Chúa Hằng Hữu, truyền lại sứ điệp của Chúa Hằng Hữu cho toàn dân rằng: “Ta ở với các ngươi, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán vậy.”
And Haggai, a messenger of the Lord among messengers of the Lord, spoke to the people, saying: the Lord says, “I am with you.”
14 Chúa giục giã lòng Tổng trấn Xô-rô-ba-bên, con Sa-anh-thi-ên, và thầy thượng tế Giô-sua, con Giô-sa-đác, và những người dân của Đức Chúa Trời còn sót lại. Họ đua nhau đến lo việc xây lại nhà cho Đức Chúa Trời mình, Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân,
And the Lord stirred the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the remainder of all the people. And they entered and performed work in the house of the Lord of hosts their God.
15 vào ngày hai mươi bốn tháng sáu, năm thứ hai đời Vua Đa-ri-út.
On the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of king Darius, they began.
