1 Từ đó, Áp-ra-ham tiến xuống phía nam, đến vùng Nê-ghép, cư ngụ giữa Ca-đe và Su-rơ, sau đó, ông đi xuống thành Ghê-ra.
Afterward Abraham departed thence toward the South countrey and dwelled betweene Cadesh and Shur, and soiourned in Gerar.
2 Trong khi tạm cự tại đó, ông giới thiệu Sa-ra là em gái mình. Vì thế, Vua A-bi-mê-léc cho rước Sa-ra vào cung.
And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. Then Abimelech King of Gerar sent and tooke Sarah.
3 Đêm ấy, Đức Chúa Trời báo mộng cho vua: “Ngươi phải chết, vì người đàn bà ngươi đem vào cung đã có chồng.”
But God came to Abimelech in a dreame by night, and said to him, Beholde, thou art but dead, because of the woman, which thou hast taken: for she is a mans wife.
4 Vì A-bi-mê-léc chưa đụng đến Sa-ra nên vua tự bào chữa: “Không lẽ Chúa diệt người vô tội?
(Notwithstanding Abimelech had not yet come neere her) And he said, Lord, wilt thou slay euen the righteous nation?
5 Áp-ra-ham đã nói: ‘Nàng là em gái tôi’ cơ mà! Và nàng cũng xác nhận: ‘Áp-ra-ham là anh tôi.’ Con thật tình không có ý làm điều sai trái.”
Said not he vnto me, She is my sister? yea, and she her selfe said, He is my brother: with an vpright minde, and innocent handes haue I done this.
6 Đức Chúa Trời đáp: “Phải, Ta biết, nên Ta ngăn ngươi phạm tội và không cho ngươi đụng đến nàng.
And God saide vnto him by a dreame, I knowe that thou diddest this euen with an vpright minde, and I kept thee also that thou shouldest not sinne against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touche her.
7 Hãy giao trả nàng về nhà chồng. Chồng nàng sẽ cầu nguyện cho ngươi khỏi chết, vì chồng nàng là nhà tiên tri. Nếu ngươi giữ nàng lại, chắc chắn ngươi và toàn dân ngươi sẽ chết.”
Now then deliuer the man his wife againe: for he is a Prophet, and he shall pray for thee that thou mayest liue: but if thou deliuer her not againe, be sure that thou shalt die the death, thou, and all that thou hast.
8 Vua dậy sớm, triệu tập quần thần, và thuật cho họ nghe mọi việc; ai nấy đều khiếp sợ.
Then Abimelech rising vp early in ye morning, called all his seruants, and tolde all these things vnto them, and the men were sore afraid.
9 Vua gọi Áp-ra-ham đến và quở trách: “Ngươi gieo họa cho chúng ta làm gì? Ta đã làm gì đến nỗi ngươi đối xử với ta như thế? Ngươi làm cho ta và nước ta đều mắc tội. Ngươi thật là tệ bạc!
Afterward Abimelech called Abraham, and said vnto him, What hast thou done vnto vs? and what haue I offeded thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdome this great sinne? thou hast done things vnto me that ought not to be done.
10 Ngươi có dụng ý gì mà lừa gạt ta như thế?”
So Abimelech said vnto Abraham, What sawest thou that thou hast done this thing?
11 Áp-ra-ham đáp: “Tôi tưởng nơi này không có người kính sợ Chúa, e có người sẽ giết tôi để cướp vợ tôi.
Then Abraham answered, Because I thought thus, Surely the feare of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wiues sake.
12 Thật tình, nàng cũng là em tôi, em một cha khác mẹ, nhưng tôi cưới nàng làm vợ.
Yet in very deede she is my sister: for she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she is my wife.
13 Khi Đức Chúa Trời sai tôi đi đây đó xa quê hương, tôi bảo nàng: ‘Dù đi đâu, xin bà cũng hãy xưng bà là em gái tôi.’”
Nowe when God caused me to wander out of my fathers house, I said then to her, This is thy kindnes that thou shalt shewe vnto me in all places where we come, Say thou of me, He is my brother.
14 Vua A-bi-mê-léc ban tặng cho Áp-ra-ham nhiều chiên, bò, tôi trai, tớ gái; và giao trả Sa-ra.
Then tooke Abimelech sheepe and beeues, and men seruants, and women seruants, and gaue them vnto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 Vua bảo: “Cứ đi khắp nước ta, xem địa điểm nào ngươi thích, rồi định cư ở đó.”
And Abimelech saide, Beholde, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 Vua quay lại nói với Sa-ra: “Đây, ta trả cho anh ngươi 1.000 lạng bạc để bồi thường danh dự. Thế là danh dự ngươi thật hoàn toàn, không chút hề hấn.”
Likewise to Sarah he said, Beholde, I haue giuen thy brother a thousand pieces of siluer: behold, he is the vaile of thine eyes to all that are with thee, and to all others: and she was thus reproued.
17 Áp-ra-ham cầu xin Đức Chúa Trời chữa lành cho vua, hoàng hậu, và toàn nữ tì trong hoàng tộc để họ có thể sinh sản.
Then Abraham prayed vnto God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his women seruants: and they bare children.
18 Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã phạt A-bi-mê-léc, không cho hoàng hậu và các cung nữ có con, sau khi A-bi-mê-léc bắt vợ của Áp-ra-ham.
For the Lord had shut vp euery wombe of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abrahams wife.
