1 Lúc ấy, cả nhân loại đều nói một thứ tiếng.
At first, all the people in [MTY] the world spoke the same language [DOU].
2 Khi đến phương đông, họ tìm thấy đồng bằng trong xứ Si-nê-a và định cư tại đó.
As people moved further east, they arrived at a plain in Babylonia region and began to live there.
3 Họ bảo nhau: “Chúng ta hãy làm gạch nung trong lửa, dùng nhựa làm hồ, và khởi công xây cất.”
Then they said to each other, “(Hey/Come on), let’s form bricks and bake them to make them hard, for building!” So they used bricks instead of stones, and used tar instead of (mortar/a mixture of cement, sand and lime) to hold them together.
4 Họ lại nói rằng: “Chúng ta hãy xây một thành phố vĩ đại, có cái tháp cao tận trời, danh tiếng chúng ta sẽ tồn tại muôn đời. Như thế, chúng ta sẽ sống đoàn tụ khỏi bị tản lạc khắp mặt đất.”
They said, “Hey, let’s build a city for ourselves! We also ought to build a very high tower that reaches up to the sky! In that way we will become famous! If we do not do this, we will be scattered all over the earth!”
5 Chúa Hằng Hữu xuống xem thành phố và ngọn tháp loài người đang xây.
So they began to build the city and the tower. Then Yahweh looked down and saw the city and the tower that those [puny] men were building.
6 Ngài nói: “Vì chỉ là một dân tộc, nói cùng một thứ tiếng, nên họ đã bắt đầu công việc này, chẳng có gì ngăn cản được những việc họ định làm.
Yahweh said, “These people are one group that all speak the same language. If they have begun to do this now, then (there is nothing that they will decide to do that will be impossible for them/they will be able to do whatever they decide to do) [LIT]!
7 Chúng Ta hãy xuống và làm xáo trộn ngôn ngữ, để họ không hiểu lời nói của nhau.”
So, okay/now, we will go down there and cause there to be many different languages, so that they will not be able to understand each other.”
8 Chúa Hằng Hữu làm họ tản lạc khắp mặt đất, không tiếp tục xây thành phố được.
So Yahweh did that. As a result, the people stopped building the city, and Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
9 Vì thế, thành phố đó gọi là Ba-bên (nghĩa là xáo trộn), vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã làm xáo trộn tiếng nói cả thế giới và phân tán loài người khắp mặt đất.
The city was called Babel which means ‘confusion’, because there Yahweh caused the people to become confused because the people [MTY] spoke [different languages that the others could not understand], not just one language. From there Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
10 Đây là dòng dõi Sem: Hai năm sau nước lụt, Sem được 100 tuổi, sinh A-bác-sát.
(This is a bigger list/I will now tell you more) of the descendants of Shem: Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arpachshad.
11 Sau khi sinh A-bác-sát, Sem còn sống thêm 500 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Arpachshad was born, Shem lived 500 more years and had more sons and daughters.
12 A-bác-sát được 35 tuổi, sinh Sê-lách.
When Arphachshad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13 Sau khi sinh Sê-lách, A-bác-sát còn sống thêm 403 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Shelah was born, Arpachshad lived 403 more years and became the father of more sons and daughters.
14 Khi Sê-lách được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Hê-be.
When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15 Sau khi sinh Hê-be, Sê-lách còn sống thêm 403 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Eber was born, Shelah lived 403 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
16 Khi Hê-be được 34 tuổi, ông sinh Bê-léc.
When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17 Sau khi sinh Bê-léc, Hê-be còn sống thêm 430 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Peleg was born, Eber lived 430 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
18 Khi Bê-léc được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Rê-hu.
When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
19 Sau khi sinh Rê-hu, Bê-léc còn sống thêm 209 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Reu was born, Peleg lived 209 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
20 Khi Rê-hu được 32 tuổi, ông sinh Sê-rúc.
When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
21 Sau khi sinh Sê-rúc, Rê-hu còn sống thêm 207 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Serug was born, Reu lived 207 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
22 Khi Sê-rúc được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Na-cô.
When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
23 Sau khi sinh Na-cô, Sê-rúc còn sống thêm 200 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Nahor was born, Serug lived 200 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
24 Khi Na-cô được 29 tuổi, ông sinh Tha-rê.
When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
25 Sau khi sinh Tha-rê, Na-cô còn sống thêm 119 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
After Terah was born, Nahor lived 119 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
26 Khi Tha-rê được 70 tuổi, ông sinh Áp-ram, Na-cô, và Ha-ran.
When Terah was 70 years old, his son Abram was born. Later, two other sons, Nahor and Haran were born.
27 Đây là dòng dõi Tha-rê: Tha-rê sinh Áp-ram, Na-cô, và Ha-ran. Ha-ran sinh Lót.
(This is/I will now give) a list of the descendants of Terah: Terah’s sons were Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran’s son was named Lot.
28 Ha-ran mất sớm tại quê hương (xứ U-rơ của người Canh-đê), khi Tha-rê hãy còn sống.
Haran died before his father died. He died in Ur [city] in Chaldea land, where he was born.
29 Áp-ram và Na-cô cưới vợ. Vợ Áp-ram là Sa-rai; vợ Na-cô là Minh-ca, con gái Ha-ran. Em Minh-ca là Ích-ca.
Abram and Nahor both married. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah. Milcah and her younger sister Iscah were the daughters of Haran.
30 Sa-rai son sẻ, không có con.
Sarai was unable to bear any children.
31 Tha-rê đem con trai là Áp-ram, con dâu Sa-rai (vợ của Áp-ram), và cháu nội là Lót (con trai Ha-ran) ra khỏi U-rơ của người Canh-đê, để đến xứ Ca-na-an. Khi đến xứ Ha-ran, họ định cư.
Terah decided to leave Ur and go to live in Canaan land. So he took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and Abram’s wife Sarai with him. But instead of going to Canaan, they stopped at Haran [town] and lived there.
32 Tha-rê thọ 205 tuổi và qua đời tại Ha-ran.
When Terah was 205 years old, he died there in Haran.
