Xuất Hành 11

1 Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se: “Ta sẽ giáng một tai họa cuối cùng trên Pha-ra-ôn và trên đất nước Ai Cập, rồi Pha-ra-ôn sẽ cho người Ít-ra-ên ra đi; thật ra, không phải cho ra đi, mà sẽ đuổi đi gấp.

Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “I will cause one more disaster to strike the king of Egypt and all his people [MTY]. After that, he will let you leave. In fact, he will expel you all.

2 Con dặn bảo dân chúng, cả nam lẫn nữ, đều nhớ xin những người láng giềng Ai Cập các vật phẩm và nữ trang bằng vàng và bằng bạc.”

So now speak to all the [Israeli] people. Tell them to ask all their [Egyptian] neighbors, both men and women, to give them some silver and gold jewelry.”

3 (Chúa Hằng Hữu làm cho người Ai Cập quý mến người Ít-ra-ên, còn Môi-se được quốc dân và quần thần Ai Cập xem là một vĩ nhân.)

Yahweh made the Egyptians highly respect the Israeli people. In particular, the Egyptian officials and all [the rest of] the people considered Moses/me to be a very great man.

4 Môi-se nói với Pha-ra-ôn: “Đây là điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: ‘Vào quãng giữa đêm nay, Ta sẽ tuần hành Ai Cập.

Then Moses/I [went to the king and] said, “This is what Yahweh says: ‘About midnight [tonight] I will go throughout Egypt,

5 Tất cả con trưởng nam của người Ai Cập sẽ chết, từ thái tử cho đến con của người nô lệ hèn mọn nhất; thậm chí con súc vật đầu lòng của họ cũng chết hết.’

and I will cause all the firstborn/oldest [sons] to die. That will include your oldest son, the oldest sons of the slave women who grind grain, [and the oldest sons of everyone else]. I will also kill the oldest males of the Egyptians’ livestock.

6 Tiếng khóc bi thương ai oán sẽ vang khắp Ai Cập; từ xưa, việc này chưa xảy ra bao giờ, trong tương lai cũng sẽ chẳng xảy ra nữa.

When that happens, people all over Egypt will wail loudly. They have never wailed like that before, and they will never wail like that again.

7 Nhưng người Ít-ra-ên và thú vật của họ đều bình an vô sự, dù chó cũng chẳng lên tiếng sủa, để vua thấy rõ rằng Chúa Hằng Hữu phân biệt họ với người Ai Cập.”

But among the Israeli people [it will be so quiet that] not even a dog will bark! Then you will know for sure that I, Yahweh, distinguish [how I act toward] the Egyptians and [how I act toward] the Israeli people.

8 Môi-se tiếp: “Quần thần của vua sẽ chạy đến, quỳ lạy van xin tôi: ‘Xin các ông đi!’ Đến lúc ấy, tôi mới đi.” Nói xong, Môi-se bước ra khỏi cung điện Pha-ra-ôn trong cơn nóng giận.

Then all these officials of yours will come and bow down before me and will say, “Please get out [of Egypt], you and all the Israeli people!”’ After that, I will leave Egypt!” [After Moses/I said that], he/I very angrily left the king.

9 Trước đó, Chúa Hằng Hữu có phán bảo Môi-se: “Pha-ra-ôn sẽ không chịu nghe lời con, chính vì thế mà Ta có dịp làm thêm nhiều phép lạ trong xứ Ai Cập.”

Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “The king will not pay any attention to what you say. The result will be that I will perform more plagues in the land of Egypt.”

10 Cho nên, dù Môi-se và A-rôn đã làm nhiều phép lạ ngay trước mắt Pha-ra-ôn, vua vẫn không cho người Ít-ra-ên ra đi, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu càng khiến cho lòng vua chai lì.

Aaron and Moses/I performed all these miracles in front of the king, but Yahweh made the king stubborn, and he did not let the Israeli people leave his country.
