Ê-xơ-tê 4

1 Khi tin này đến tai Mạc-đô-chê, ông liền xé áo, mặc bao gai và phủ tro lên đầu, ra giữa thành phố, lớn tiếng than khóc đắng cay.

2 Ông đến đứng bên ngoài cổng hoàng cung, vì người mặc bao gai không được phép vào cổng.

and to come (in): come till to/for face: before gate [the] king for nothing to/for to come (in): come to(wards) gate [the] king in/on/with clothing sackcloth

3 Tại các tỉnh, khi tiếp nhận sắc lệnh của vua, người Do Thái đều thảm sầu, bỏ ăn, khóc lóc, than thở; nhiều người mặc bao gai và phủ tro lên đầu.

4 Các nữ tì và thái giám báo tin lên Ê-xơ-tê. Hoàng hậu rất đau buồn, gửi áo đến Mạc-đô-chê để ông đừng mặc bao gai nữa, nhưng ông không nhận.

6 Ha-thác đi gặp Mạc-đô-chê ngoài đường phố, đối ngang cổng hoàng cung.

and to come out: come Hathach to(wards) Mordecai to(wards) street/plaza [the] city which to/for face: before gate [the] king

7 Mạc-đô-chê kể hết mọi chuyện cho Ha-thác, cùng số bạc mà Ha-man dành cho ngân khố hoàng gia để tàn sát người Do Thái.

8 Ông cũng trao Ha-thác bản sao sắc lệnh về việc tiêu diệt người Do Thái, dặn Ha-thác đưa Ê-xơ-tê đọc, để bà hiểu rõ tình hình, và bảo bà phải đến ra mắt vua, van xin cho dân tộc.

9 Ha-thác về thuật lại bà Ê-xơ-tê mọi lời của Mạc-đô-chê.

10 Ê-xơ-tê sai Ha-thác trở lại nói với Mạc-đô-chê:

and to say Esther to/for Hathach and to command him to(wards) Mordecai

11 “Mọi người trong hoàng cung cũng như ngoài dân gian đều biết rằng, bất luận đàn ông hay đàn bà, nếu không được vua đòi mà tự ý vào nội điện, thì đều bị xử tử, trừ trường hợp vua đưa vương trượng bằng vàng ra, người ấy mới được toàn mạng. Phần tôi, cả tháng nay không có lệnh đòi vào hầu vua.”

12 Ha-thác chuyển lại Mạc-đô-chê lời bà Ê-xơ-tê.

13 Mạc-đô-chê bảo đáp lại bà Ê-xơ-tê: “Đừng tưởng ở trong cung vua mà hoàng hậu được thoát nạn khi tất cả người Do Thái bị giết.

and to say Mordecai to/for to return: reply to(wards) Esther not to resemble in/on/with soul: myself your to/for to escape house: home [the] king from all [the] Jew

14 Nếu hoàng hậu lặng yên lúc này, người Do Thái sẽ được giải cứu bằng cách khác, nhưng hoàng hậu và cả gia đình sẽ bị diệt vong. Biết đâu hoàng hậu ở địa vị ấy cũng chỉ vì cơ hội này?”

16 “Xin tập họp tất cả người Do Thái ở Su-sa lại, và vì tôi kiêng ăn cầu nguyện ba ngày đêm. Phần tôi và các nữ tì cũng sẽ kiêng ăn như thế. Sau đó, tôi sẽ vào gặp vua dù trái luật và nếu bị xử tử, thì tôi cũng vui lòng.”
