Giảng Sư 5
1 Khi con vào nhà Đức Chúa Trời, hãy lắng nghe và im lặng hơn là dâng của lễ ngu dại lên Đức Chúa Trời mà không nhận biết lỗi lầm mình.
Guard thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be ready to hearken: it is better than when fools give sacrifices; for they know not that they do evil.
2 Đừng hấp tấp hứa nguyện, và đừng vội vàng trình những sự việc trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời. Đức Chúa Trời ở trên trời, còn con ở dưới đất. Vậy hãy nói lời ngắn gọn.
Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.
3 Nhiều lo nghĩ khiến con chiêm bao; quá nhiều lời khiến con thành ngu dại.
For a dream cometh through a multitude of business; and a fool's voice through a multitude of words.
4 Khi con hứa nguyện với Đức Chúa Trời, phải thực hiện ngay, vì Đức Chúa Trời không hài lòng những người dại dột. Hãy làm trọn điều đã hứa với Ngài.
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest.
5 Thà không nói gì còn hơn là hứa rồi không làm.
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
6 Đừng để miệng con gây cho con phạm tội. Cũng đừng biện bạch với sứ giả Đền Thờ rằng lời con hứa nguyện là lầm lẫn. Điều đó sẽ làm Đức Chúa Trời nổi giận, và Ngài sẽ quét sạch mọi thứ con đã làm.
Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
7 Đừng mơ mộng xa vời, không thực tế và cũng đừng nói năng rườm rà, rỗng tuếch. Phải kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời.
For through the multitude of dreams and vanities there are also many words; but fear thou God.
8 Đừng ngạc nhiên nếu con thấy cảnh người nghèo bị áp bức và công lý bị chà đạp trong xứ. Vì mỗi công chức đều phục vụ người cao cấp hơn mình, cấp này lại phục vụ cấp khác cao hơn nữa.
If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they.
9 Ngay cả một vị vua cày cấy ruộng đất cũng vì ích lợi của mình!
But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field.
10 Người tham tiền bạc chẳng bao giờ thấy đủ. Thật vô nghĩa biết bao khi nghĩ rằng của cải mang lại hạnh phúc thật!
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase; this also is vanity.
11 Càng có nhiều tiền, càng có nhiều người tiêu xài. Vậy có của cải ích lợi gì—ngoại trừ việc ngắm nhìn nó.
When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, saving the beholding of them with his eyes?
12 Người làm lụng nặng nhọc được giấc ngủ ngon, dù ăn ít hay nhiều. Còn người giàu vì lo nghĩ đến của cải nên ngủ chẳng yên giấc.
Sweet is the sleep of a labouring man, whether he eat little or much; but the satiety of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
13 Có một tai họa nghiêm trọng tôi thấy dưới mặt trời. Tài sản tích trữ quay lại làm hại người thu góp tài sản.
There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt;
14 Vì người để tiền kinh doanh vào nơi mạo hiểm, và của mọi thứ đều tiêu tan. Cuối cùng, chẳng còn gì để lại cho con cái.
and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.
15 Tất cả chúng ta lìa đời trần truồng với hai bàn tay trắng như trong ngày chúng ta sinh ra. Chúng ta không thể mang gì theo được.
As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he go back as he came, and shall take nothing for his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
16 Cái họa này thật rất nghiêm trọng. Con người ra đời thể nào thì khi lìa đời cũng thể ấy. Tất cả việc làm khó nhọc của họ là hư không—như làm việc cho gió.
And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind?
17 Suốt đời người ấy sống trong tăm tối—thất vọng, chán nản, và giận dữ.
All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much vexation and sickness and wrath.
18 Tuy nhiên, tôi thấy một điều, ít nhất có một điều tốt. Thật tốt cho người ăn, uống, và tận hưởng công khó của mình dưới mặt trời trong cuộc đời ngắn ngủi Đức Chúa Trời ban cho họ, và đó là phần họ được hưởng.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion.
19 Vậy thì còn gì tốt hơn nếu nhận được của cải từ Đức Chúa Trời và có sức khỏe tốt để sử dụng nó. Tận hưởng của cải do mình làm ra và nhận lấy phần mình—đây quả thật là món quà từ Đức Chúa Trời.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour — this is the gift of God.
20 Đức Chúa Trời khiến đời sống người đầy an vui để người không còn thời gian lo nghĩ về quá khứ.
For let him remember the days of his life that they are not many; for God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
