Công Vụ Các Sứ đồ 15
1 Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba đang ở An-ti-ốt, một nhóm người từ xứ Giu-đê xuống, dạy các tín hữu: “Nếu không chịu cắt bì theo luật Môi-se, anh em không được cứu rỗi.”
But certain persons came down from Judea, and began to teach the Brethren that, unless they were circumcised, in accordance with the custom enjoined by Moses, they could not be saved.
2 Sau cuộc tranh luận sôi nổi, mọi người quyết định cử Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba cùng đi với mấy người trong nhóm ấy lên Giê-ru-sa-lem trình bày vấn đề cho các sứ đồ và trưởng lão.
This gave rise to a serious dispute, and much discussion, between Paul and Barnabas and these men, and it was therefore settled that Paul and Barnabas and others of their number should go up to Jerusalem, to consult the Apostles and Officers of the Church about the matter under discussion.
3 Hội Thánh tiễn họ lên Giê-ru-sa-lem, và họ ghé qua xứ Phê-ni-xi và xứ Sa-ma-ri, họ tường thuật việc các dân ngoại trở về với Chúa, nên anh em tín hữu rất vui mừng.
The Church, therefore, sent them on their journey, and they made their way through Phoenicia and Samaria, telling the story of the conversion of the Gentiles, to the great joy of all the Brethren.
4 Tới Giê-ru-sa-lem, họ được Hội Thánh, các sứ đồ, và trưởng lão tiếp đón. Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba trình báo mọi việc Chúa đã cùng làm với mình.
On their arrival at Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the Church, as well as by the Apostles and the Officers, and gave an account of all that God had helped them to do.
5 Tuy nhiên, có mấy thầy Pha-ri-si đã tin Chúa, đứng lên yêu cầu: “Phải làm lễ cắt bì cho các tín hữu dân ngoại và buộc họ phải giữ luật pháp Môi-se.”
Some of the Pharisees’ party, however, who had become believers in Christ, came forward and declared that they were bound to circumcise converts and to direct them to observe the Law of Moses.
6 Các sứ đồ và trưởng lão họp lại để cứu xét việc ấy.
The Apostles and the Officers of the Church held a meeting to consider this question.
7 Sau khi thảo luận khá lâu, Phi-e-rơ đứng lên phát biểu: “Thưa anh em, trước đây Đức Chúa Trời đã chọn tôi giữa vòng anh em, sai đi truyền giảng Phúc Âm cho dân ngoại để họ tin Chúa, như anh em đã biết.
After much discussion, Peter rose and said: “You, my Brothers, know well that long ago God singled me out — that through my lips the Gentiles should hear the Message of the Good News, and become believers in Christ.
8 Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng biết rõ lòng người, đã minh xác việc Ngài tiếp nhận dân ngoại bằng cách ban Chúa Thánh Linh cho họ cũng như cho chúng ta.
Now God, who reads all hearts, declared his acceptance of the Gentiles, by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us.
9 Chúa không phân biệt họ với chúng ta vì Ngài cũng tẩy sạch lòng họ một khi họ tin nhận Chúa.
He made no distinction between them and us, when he purified their hearts by their faith.
10 Như thế, tại sao anh em dám thách thức Chúa và quàng vào cổ tín hữu dân ngoại cái ách mà tổ phụ chúng ta và chính chúng ta chẳng từng mang nổi?
Why, then, do you now provoke God, by putting on the necks of these disciples a yoke which neither our ancestors nor we were able to bear?
11 Anh em không tin chúng ta được cứu chỉ nhờ ân sủng của Chúa Giê-xu cũng như họ sao?”
No, it is through the loving-kindness of the Lord Jesus that we, just as they do, believe that we have been saved.”
12 Cả hội nghị yên lặng nghe Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba kể lại những phép lạ và việc diệu kỳ Chúa đã dùng họ thực hiện giữa các dân ngoại.
Every voice in the assembly was hushed, as they listened to Barnabas and Paul, while they gave an account of all the signs and wonders which God had shown among the Gentiles through them.
13 Nghe tường trình xong, Gia-cơ tuyên bố: “Xin anh em lưu ý.
After they had finished speaking, James addressed the Council. “Brothers,” he began, “hear what I have to say.
14 Phi-e-rơ vừa kể lại lúc Chúa mới thăm viếng các dân ngoại lần đầu, Ngài đã cứu vớt một số người để làm rạng Danh Ngài.
Simon has described the manner in which God first visited the Gentiles, in order to take from among them a people to bear his Name.
15 Việc ấy phù hợp với lời Chúa trong sách tiên tri:
And that is in harmony with the words of the Prophets, where they say —
16 ‘Sau đó, Ta sẽ quay lại, dựng trại Đa-vít đã sụp đổ. Ta sẽ tu bổ những chỗ đổ nát và xây dựng lại,
‘“After this I will return; And I will rebuild the House of David which has fallen — Its very ruins I will rebuild, And will set it up once more;
17 hầu những người còn lại trong nhân loại, có thể tìm kiếm Chúa Hằng Hữu, kể cả dân ngoại— là những người mang Danh Ta. Chúa Hằng Hữu đã phán vậy—
That so the rest of mankind may earnestly seek the Lord — Even all the Gentiles on whom my Name has been bestowed.”
Says the Lord, as he does these things, foreknown from of old.’ (aiōn g165)
19 Theo ý kiến tôi, không nên tạo khó khăn cho dân ngoại mới trở lại với Đức Chúa Trời.
In my judgment, therefore, we should not add to the difficulties of those Gentiles who are turning to God,
20 Chỉ nên viết thư căn dặn họ đừng ăn của cúng thần tượng, đừng gian dâm, đừng ăn máu, và thịt thú vật chết ngạt.
but we should write to them to abstain from food that has been polluted by being sacrificed to idols, from impurity, from eating the flesh of strangled animals, and from blood.
21 Vì khắp các đô thị đều có người giảng giải các luật lệ đó trong luật pháp Môi-se vào mỗi ngày Sa-bát, trong các hội đường Do Thái qua nhiều thế hệ rồi.”
For in every town, for generations past, there have been those who preach Moses, read as he is in the Synagogues every Sabbath.”
22 Các sứ đồ, trưởng lão, và cả Hội Thánh đồng ý cử hai người trong giới lãnh đạo Hội Thánh là Giu-đa (còn gọi là Ba-sa-ba) và Si-la cùng đi An-ti-ốt với Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba.
It was then decided by the Apostles and the Officers, with the assent of the whole Church, to choose some of their number, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. Those chosen were Judas (called Barsabas) and Silas, who were leading men among the Brethren.
23 Họ mang theo bức thư nội dung như sau: “Các sứ đồ, trưởng lão và anh em tín hữu tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Thân gửi anh em tín hữu dân ngoại tại An-ti-ốt, Sy-ri và Si-li-si.
They were bearers of the following letter — ‘The Apostles, and the Brothers who are the Officers of the Church, send their greetings to the Brethren of Gentile birth in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia.
24 Chúng tôi nghe có mấy người từ đây đi ra, đã gây hoang mang và làm rối loạn tinh thần anh em. Chúng tôi không hề sai họ làm việc ấy.
As we had heard that some of our number had upset you by their assertions, and unsettled your minds — without instructions from us —
25 Vì thế chúng tôi đồng tâm hiệp ý lựa chọn hai đại biểu đi theo hai anh em thân yêu của chúng tôi là Ba-na-ba và Phao-lô,
We met and decided to choose certain men and send them to you with our dear brothers Barnabas and Paul,
26 hai người đã liều chết truyền giảng Danh Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu.
who have sacrificed themselves for the Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
27 Chúng tôi cử Giu-đa và Si-la đến trình bày trực tiếp cho anh em vấn đề này.
We are accordingly sending Judas and Silas, and they will tell you by word of mouth what we are now writing.
28 Chúa Thánh Linh và chúng tôi đều không đặt thêm gánh nặng gì cho anh em ngoài mấy điều cần thiết:
We have, therefore, decided, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to lay no further burden upon you beyond these necessary conditions —
29 Anh em đừng ăn của cúng thần tượng, máu, thịt thú vật chết ngạt, và đừng gian dâm. Anh em nên tránh những điều ấy. Thân ái.”
That you abstain from food offered to idols, from blood, from eating the flesh of strangled animals, and from impurity. If you guard yourselves against such things, it will be well with you. Farewell.’
30 Phái đoàn lên đường đến thành An-ti-ốt, triệu tập Hội Thánh và trao bức thư.
So the bearers of this letter were sent on their way, and went down to Antioch. There they called a meeting of all the brethren,
31 Đọc thư xong, các tín hữu dân ngoại đều vui mừng vì được khích lệ.
and delivered the letter, the reading of which caused great rejoicing by its encouraging contents.
32 Giu-đa và Si-la, cả hai tiên tri vốn có ân tứ giảng dạy, giãi bày lời Chúa để khích lệ và củng cố đức tin các tín hữu.
Judas and Silas, who were themselves Prophets, further encouraged the Brethren by many an address, and strengthened their faith.
33 Hai người ở tại An-ti-ốt ít lâu rồi anh em tiễn họ về Hội Thánh Giê-ru-sa-lem.
After some stay, they were dismissed with kind farewells from the Brethren, and returned to those who had sent them.
34 Nhưng Si-la quyết định ở lại.
35 Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba cũng ở lại An-ti-ốt hợp tác với nhiều anh em, tiếp tục giảng dạy Đạo Chúa.
Paul and Barnabas, however, remained in Antioch, where they taught and, with the help of many others, told the Good News of the Lord’s Message.
36 Sau một thời gian, Phao-lô đề nghị với Ba-na-ba: “Chúng ta nên trở lại thăm viếng anh em tín hữu tại các thành phố chúng ta đã truyền bá Đạo Chúa!”
Some time after this, Paul said to Barnabas: “Let us go back and visit the Brethren in every town in which we have told the Lord’s Message, and see how they are prospering.”
37 Ba-na-ba đồng ý và muốn đem Mác đi theo.
Barnabas wished to take with them John, whose other name was Mark;
38 Nhưng Phao-lô không đồng ý, vì trong chuyến trước, khi đến Bam-phi-ly, Mác đã bỏ cuộc về quê.
but Paul felt that they ought not to take with them the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia, and had not gone on with them to their work.
39 Vì bất đồng ý kiến, nên hai người chia tay. Ba-na-ba đem Mác xuống tàu qua đảo Síp.
This caused such unpleasant feeling between them that they parted, Barnabas taking Mark and sailing for Cyprus,
40 Còn Phao-lô chọn Si-la rồi lên đường, sau khi được anh em giao thác mình cho ân sủng của Chúa.
while Paul chose Silas for his companion and, after he had been committed by the Brethren to the gracious care of the Lord,
41 Ông thăm viếng xứ Sy-ri và Si-li-si, giúp các Hội thánh thêm vững mạnh.
started on his journey and went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the Churches in the faith.
