Công Vụ Các Sứ đồ 11
1 Các sứ đồ và anh em tín hữu xứ Giu-đê nghe tin dân ngoại cũng đã tiếp nhận Đạo của Đức Chúa Trời.
NOW the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
2 Nhưng khi Phi-e-rơ trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, bị các tín hữu Do Thái chỉ trích.
And when Peter went up to Jerusalem, they of the circumcision disputed with him,
3 Họ nói: “Ông đã vào nhà của dân ngoại và còn ăn chung với họ nữa!”
saying, Thou hast gone in to men holding uncircumcision, and hast eaten with them.
4 Rồi Phi-e-rơ kể cho họ từng việc đã xảy ra:
Then Peter taking up the matter from the beginning, explained it to them regularly, saying,
5 “Tại thành Gia-pha, tôi đang cầu nguyện thì chợt xuất thần, thấy khải tượng. Có vật gì giống như tấm vải lớn buộc bốn góc từ trời sa xuống trước mặt tôi.
I was in the city of Joppa praying and I saw in a trance a vision, a certain vessel descending as a vast sheet let down from heaven by its four corners; and it came close to me:
6 Tôi chăm chú nhìn, thấy bên trong có các loài súc vật, dã thú, loài bò sát, và loài chim trời.
on which looking attentively, I perceived, and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the birds of the air.
7 Tôi nghe có tiếng gọi: ‘Hãy dậy, Phi-e-rơ; hãy dậy làm thịt ăn.’
Then I heard a voice saying to me, Rise, Peter; slay and eat.
8 Nhưng tôi thưa: ‘Lạy Chúa, con không dám, vì con không hề ăn vật gì mà theo luật Do Thái là ô uế hay không tinh sạch.’
But I said, By no means, Lord: for never yet hath any thing common or unclean entered into my mouth.
9 Tiếng từ trời lại phán: ‘Vật gì Đức Chúa Trời đã tẩy sạch thì không nên xem là ô uế nữa!’
But the voice replied the second time from heaven, What God hath cleansed, call not thou common.
10 Tiếng đó lặp lại ba lần rồi mọi vật được thu lên trời.
Now this was repeated thrice: and the whole withdrawn again into heaven.
11 Ngay lúc ấy, có ba người từ Sê-sa-rê đến, dừng chân trước nhà tôi đang trọ.
And, lo! immediately three men stood before the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.
12 Chúa Thánh Linh bảo tôi đừng e ngại, cứ đi với họ. Ngoài ra có sáu anh em đây cùng đến nhà Cọt-nây với tôi.
And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no hesitation. But with me went also these six brethren, and we entered into the man’s house:
13 Chúng tôi nghe Cọt-nây kể lại chuyện thiên sứ hiện đến bảo ông: ‘Hãy sai người đến Gia-pha mời Phi-e-rơ.
and he informed us how he had seen an angel in his house, standing and saying to him, Send men to Joppa, and invite Simon, who is surnamed Peter;
14 Người ấy sẽ truyền lời Chúa cho ông, nhờ đó ông và mọi người trong nhà sẽ được cứu!’
who will speak words to thee, by which thou mayest be saved, and thy house.
15 Khi tôi bắt đầu giảng, Chúa Thánh Linh liền giáng trên họ như Ngài đã giáng trên chúng ta lúc đầu.
So when I had begun to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, just as on us at the beginning.
16 Tôi nhớ lại lời Chúa dạy: ‘Giăng làm báp-tem bằng nước, nhưng các con sẽ nhận báp-tem bằng Chúa Thánh Linh.’
Then I recollected the word of the Lord, how he had said, John indeed baptised with water; but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost.
17 Vậy nếu Đức Chúa Trời ban ân tứ cho dân ngoại như Ngài đã ban cho chúng ta là người tin Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, thì tôi là ai mà dám ngăn cản Đức Chúa Trời?”
If God then gave an equal gift to them even as to us, on believing on the Lord Jesus Christ; I, indeed, who was I, that I should be able to restrain God?
18 Họ nghe xong liền thôi chỉ trích ông, và tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời: “Thế là Chúa cũng cho các dân ngoại cơ hội ăn năn để được sự sống đời đời.”
So when they heard these things they were satisfied, and glorified God, saying, Well! then hath God even to the Gentiles given repentance unto life.
19 Lúc các tín hữu tản mác khắp nơi vì vụ áp bức sau khi Ê-tiên qua đời, một số đến tận Phê-ni-xi, Síp, và An-ti-ốt truyền giáo, nhưng chỉ cho người Do Thái.
Now those also who were dispersed by the persecution which arose on account of Stephen passed on as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no man except the Jews only.
20 Tuy nhiên, mấy tín hữu quê ở Síp và Ly-bi đến An-ti-ốt giảng về Chúa Giê-xu cho người Hy Lạp.
And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they arrived at Antioch, spake to the Grecian proselytes, preaching the Lord Jesus.
21 Chúa cùng làm việc với họ, nên có đông người ăn năn tin Chúa.
And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a vast multitude believing, turned to the Lord.
22 Tin tức đưa về Giê-ru-sa-lem, Hội Thánh cử Ba-na-ba đến An-ti-ốt.
And the report concerning them was heard in the ears of the church which was at Jerusalem: and they dispatched Barnabas, to go as far as Antioch.
23 Khi đến nơi, thấy công việc của Đức Chúa Trời, ông rất vui mừng, khích lệ anh chị em hết lòng trung tín với Chúa.
Who, when he arrived there, and beheld the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted them all, with full purpose of heart to adhere to the Lord.
24 Ba-na-ba là người đạo đức, đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh và đức tin. Ông dìu dắt nhiều người đến với Chúa.
For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and a great multitude was added to the Lord.
25 Sau đó, Ba-na-ba lên Tạt-sơ tìm Sau-lơ.
Then went forth Barnabas to Tarsus, in search of Saul:
26 Ông tìm được Sau-lơ và đưa về An-ti-ốt. Suốt một năm, hai ông nhóm họp với Hội Thánh và huấn luyện rất nhiều người. (Tại An-ti-ốt, lần đầu tiên tín hữu được gọi là Cơ Đốc nhân.)
and having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass, that during a whole year they were jointly employed in that church, and taught a vast multitude, and they called for the first time in Antioch the disciples Christians.
27 Trong khi đó, có mấy nhà tiên tri từ Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống An-ti-ốt.
Now there came down in those days prophets from Jerusalem to Antioch.
28 Một nhà tiên tri tên A-ga-bút được Chúa Thánh Linh hướng dẫn, đứng lên giữa buổi họp báo trước rằng thế giới La Mã sẽ bị nạn đói lớn. (Quả nhiên, nạn đói xảy ra vào thời cai trị của Cơ-lốt.)
And one of them named Agabus, rising up, signified by the spirit that a great famine was coming upon the whole habitable globe: which also came in the reign of Claudius Caesar.
29 Các tín hữu tại An-ti-ốt quyết định mỗi người tùy theo khả năng gửi quà cứu trợ anh chị em tín hữu xứ Giu-đê.
Then the disciples, as everyman had ability, determined every individual of them to send a sum to be distributed among the brethren who dwelt in Judea:
30 Họ nhờ Ba-na-ba và Sau-lơ đem tặng phẩm về trao cho các trưởng lão tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
which also they did, sending it off to the presbyters by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
