II Sử Ký 32
1 Sau khi Ê-xê-chia trung tín các việc này, San-chê-ríp, vua A-sy-ri, xâm lăng nước Giu-đa. Ông bao vây các thành kiên cố và ra lệnh cho quân đội đánh phá thành.
After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.
2 Ê-xê-chia nhận thấy San-chê-ríp sắp sửa đem quân tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem,
And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
3 Ê-xê-chia liền triệu tập các quan chỉ huy và các quân sư quân đội, họ quyết định chận các ngọn suối bên ngoài thành.
He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.
4 Toàn dân rất ủng hộ việc chận các khe suối chảy xuống các đồng bằng. Vì họ nói: “Tại sao để vua A-sy-ri đến đây và tìm được nhiều nước?”
So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
5 Vua Ê-xê-chia củng cố thành lũy, tu bổ những chỗ đổ nát, kiến thiết thêm các công sự phòng thủ và xây thêm một vòng đai bọc quanh thành. Vua cũng tăng cường đồn lũy Mi-lô trong Thành Đa-vít và cho làm thêm một số lớn khí giới và khiên.
Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
6 Vua chỉ định nhiều quan chỉ huy quân đội trên dân chúng và triệu tập họ đến quảng trường tại cổng thành. Rồi Ê-xê-chia khích lệ họ:
And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,
7 “Hãy mạnh dạn, anh dũng chiến đấu! Đừng sợ vua A-sy-ri và quân đội hùng mạnh của nó, vì có một năng lực vĩ đại hơn đang ở với chúng ta!
Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
8 Quân đội chúng đông đảo thật, nhưng cũng chỉ là con người. Còn chúng ta có Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta, Ngài sẽ chiến đấu thay chúng ta!” Lời của Ê-xê-chia đã khích lệ dân chúng cách mạnh mẽ.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is YHWH our Elohim to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 Trong khi San-chê-ríp, vua A-sy-ri, còn đang chỉ huy cuộc bao vây thành phố La-ki, ông sai thuộc hạ đến Giê-ru-sa-lem đe dọa Vua Ê-xê-chia của Giu-đa và toàn dân trong thành:
After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him, ) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 “Đây là điều San-chê-ríp, vua A-sy-ri nói: Các ngươi còn trông cậy và nương dựa vào ai một khi Giê-ru-sa-lem bị bao vây như thế?
Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
11 Vua Ê-xê-chia dùng mưu độc để tàn sát các ngươi, vì nếu ở lại trong thành các ngươi sẽ chết đói, chết khát! Vua ấy lừa bịp các ngươi rằng: ‘Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta sẽ giải cứu chúng ta khỏi tay vua A-sy-ri!’
Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, YHWH our Elohim shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
12 Các ngươi quên rằng chính Ê-xê-chia đã tiêu diệt các miếu thờ và bàn thờ của Chúa Hằng Hữu sao? Vua còn ra lệnh cho cả Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem chỉ được thờ phượng và dâng tế lễ tại một bàn thờ duy nhất hay sao?
Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
13 Các ngươi phải biết một khi ta và các vua A-sy-ri trước ta đã đem quân đánh nước nào, thì quân đội ta sẽ toàn thắng nước đó! Các thần của các nước đó không thể giải cứu đất nước họ khỏi tay ta.
Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the elohim of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
14 Có thần nào trong các nước mà tổ phụ ta quyết định tiêu diệt có khả năng giải cứu dân tộc mình khỏi tay ta? Điều gì khiến các ngươi nghĩ rằng Đức Chúa Trời có thể giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay ta?
Who was there among all the elohim of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your Elohim should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
15 Đừng để Ê-xê-chia lừa bịp hoặc gạt gẫm các ngươi! Đừng tin lời láo khoét của nó vì không có thần nào của dân tộc nào hay vương quốc nào có khả năng giải cứu dân mình khỏi tay ta và các tổ phụ, chắc chắn Chúa các ngươi không thể giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay ta đâu!”
Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no eloah of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your Elohim deliver you out of mine hand?
16 Các thuộc hạ San-chê-ríp cũng nói phạm thượng đến Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời và nhục mạ đầy tớ Ngài là Ê-xê-chia.
And his servants spake yet more against YHWH Elohim, and against his servant Hezekiah.
17 Vua cũng viết nhiều thư báng bổ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên. Ông viết: “Các thần của các nước đã không giải cứu được dân tộc mình khỏi tay ta, thì Đức Chúa Trời của Ê-xê-chia cũng không thể giải cứu dân tộc mình thể ấy.”
He wrote also letters to rail on YHWH Elohim of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the elohim of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the Elohim of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
18 Các quan chỉ huy A-sy-ri dùng tiếng Hê-bơ-rơ nói lớn cho dân chúng đang ở trên thành lũy nghe khiến dân chúng sợ hãi để thừa cơ hội chiếm đóng thành.
Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
19 Họ báng bổ Đức Chúa Trời của Giê-ru-sa-lem, coi Ngài như các thần của các nước khác và do tay con người làm ra.
And they spake against the Elohim of Jerusalem, as against the elohim of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.
20 Vua Ê-xê-chia và Tiên tri Y-sai, con A-mốt, cùng cầu nguyện, kêu la thấu nơi ngự của Đức Chúa Trời trên trời.
And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
21 Chúa Hằng Hữu sai một thiên sứ tiêu diệt quân đội A-sy-ri cùng các tướng và các quan chỉ huy. San-chê-ríp nhục nhã rút lui về nước. Khi vua vào đền thờ thần mình để thờ lạy, vài con trai của vua giết vua bằng gươm.
And YHWH sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his elohim, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
22 Chúa Hằng Hữu đã giải cứu Ê-xê-chia và toàn dân Giê-ru-sa-lem khỏi tay San-chê-ríp, vua A-sy-ri và tất cả thù nghịch. Vậy, đất nước được hưởng thái bình, thịnh trị.
Thus YHWH saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
23 Từ ngày đó, nhiều người trong các dân tộc dâng lễ vật lên Chúa Hằng Hữu tại Giê-ru-sa-lem và đem nhiều tặng phẩm quý giá cho Vua Ê-xê-chia. Tất cả các dân tộc lân bang đều tôn trọng Vua Ê-xê-chia.
And many brought gifts unto YHWH to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
24 Vào lúc ấy, Ê-xê-chia đau nặng gần chết. Vua cầu khẩn Chúa Hằng Hữu, Chúa liền đáp lời và cứu vua bằng một phép lạ.
In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto YHWH: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
25 Tuy nhiên, Ê-xê-chia không nhớ ơn lớn của Chúa, lại còn lên mặt kiêu ngạo. Vì thế Chúa Hằng Hữu nổi giận cùng vua, toàn dân Giu-đa, và Giê-ru-sa-lem.
But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
26 Nhưng vì Ê-xê-chia và Giê-ru-sa-lem hạ mình xuống trước mặt Chúa, nên cơn thịnh nộ của Chúa Hằng Hữu không đổ xuống trong đời Ê-xê-chia.
Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of YHWH came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 Ê-xê-chia trở nên rất giàu có, danh tiếng vẻ vang khắp nơi. Vua xây cất nhiều kho tàng để chứa các bảo vật bằng vàng, bạc, ngọc, và hương liệu, cùng các khiên và khí dụng quý giá.
And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
28 Vua cũng dựng nhiều kho chứa ngũ cốc, rượu mới, và dầu ô-liu, cùng nhiều chuồng để nuôi đủ loại súc vật.
Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
29 Vua cũng có rất nhiều bầy chiên, bầy dê. Vua xây cất nhiều thành, và Đức Chúa Trời ban phước cho vua rất dồi dào.
Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for Elohim had given him substance very much.
30 Vua xây đập nước Ghi-hôn, để dẫn nước vào khu vực phía tây Thành Đa-vít qua hệ thống dẫn thủy. Việc nào vua làm cũng thành công tốt đẹp.
This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31 Tuy nhiên, khi các sứ giả Ba-by-lôn đến chầu Vua Ê-xê-chia vì nghe nói vua đau nặng rồi được chữa lành bằng một phép lạ thì Đức Chúa Trời để cho vua một mình đối phó với tình thế, nhằm mục đích thử lòng vua.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, Elohim left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32 Các công việc của Vua Ê-xê-chia với các thành quả tốt đẹp, đều được ghi trong Sách Khải Tượng của Tiên Tri Y-sai, Con A-mốt và Sách Sử Ký Các Vua Giu-đa và Ít-ra-ên.
Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 Ê-xê-chia qua đời, được an táng trong lăng mộ hoàng gia, toàn dân Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem đều ca tụng vua trong lễ quốc táng. Con trai vua là Ma-na-se lên ngôi kế vị.
And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
