II Sử Ký 24
1 Giô-ách lên ngôi lúc bảy tuổi, và cai trị bốn mươi năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ vua là Xi-bia, quê ở Bê-e-sê-ba.
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2 Giô-ách làm điều ngay thẳng trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu trong suốt thời gian Thầy Tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa còn sống.
And Joash did what was right in the sight of Jehovah all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3 Giê-hô-gia-đa cưới cho Giô-ách hai người vợ, và họ sinh cho vua nhiều con trai và con gái.
And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begot sons and daughters.
4 Về sau, Giô-ách quyết định trùng tu Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to renew the house of Jehovah.
5 Vua họp các thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi lại và bảo: “Các ông đi khắp các thành trong nước Giu-đa, thu tiền dâng hiến hằng năm của dân, để có thể thực hiện chương trình tu bổ Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời. Hãy mau xúc tiến việc này!” Nhưng người Lê-vi cứ trì hoãn.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out to the cities of Judah and collect of all Israel money for the repair of the house of your God from year to year, and ye shall hasten the matter. But the Levites hastened it not.
6 Vậy vua mời thầy thượng tế Giê-hô-gia-đa vào và hỏi: “Sao ông không bảo người Lê-vi đi thu thuế Đền Thờ từ các thành trong nước Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem? Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa Hằng Hữu có ấn định việc toàn dân Ít-ra-ên đóng góp cho Lều Chứng Ước.”
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses the servant of Jehovah [laid upon] the congregation of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?
7 Trước đó, thuộc hạ của bà A-tha-li tà ác đã vơ vét Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời, và họ đã dùng tất cả vật cống hiến từ Đền Thờ của Chúa Hằng Hữu để thờ phượng thần miếu Ba-anh.
For the wicked Athaliah [and] her sons had devastated the house of God; and also all the hallowed things of the house of Jehovah had they employed for the Baals.
8 Vua ra lệnh đóng một cái rương đặt bên ngoài cửa Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it at the gate of the house of Jehovah without,
9 Và truyền lệnh khắp nước Giu-đa, cả thành Giê-ru-sa-lem bảo mọi người phải đem nạp cho Chúa Hằng Hữu khoản thuế đã được Môi-se, đầy tớ Đức Chúa Trời, quy định từ ngày Ít-ra-ên còn ở trong hoang mạc.
and they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring to Jehovah the tribute of Moses the servant of God [laid upon] Israel in the wilderness.
10 Điều này làm hài lòng các nhà lãnh đạo và dân chúng, họ vui mừng đem tiền bỏ vào rương cho tới khi đầy.
And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in and cast into the chest, until they had finished.
11 Bất cứ khi nào rương đầy tràn, người Lê-vi đem rương tiền đến cho các viên chức nhà vua. Thư ký của vua và người của thầy thượng tế sẽ đến và thu giữ tiền, sau đó đem rương trở lại Đền Thờ. Cứ thế, ngày này qua ngày khác, người ta thu được vô số tiền bạc.
And it came to pass at the time the chest was brought for the king's control by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and high priest's officer came, and they emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12 Vua và Giê-hô-gia-đa đem tiền ấy giao cho những người coi sóc việc xây cất, những người này thuê thợ nề và thợ mộc để trùng tu Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu. Họ cũng thuê thợ sắt và thợ đồng để sửa chữa Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and they hired masons and carpenters to renew the house of Jehovah, and also such as wrought in iron and bronze, to repair the house of Jehovah.
13 Như vậy, công việc tiến hành, Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời trở nên tốt đẹp và vững chắc như xưa.
So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in its state, and strengthened it.
14 Khi công cuộc tu bổ hoàn tất, người ta đem số tiền còn lại đến cho vua và Giê-hô-gia-đa. Tiền này được dùng để sắm các dụng cụ trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu gồm những đĩa, bình bằng vàng, và bằng bạc dùng vào việc phục vụ thờ phượng và dâng tế lễ thiêu. Trọn đời Thầy Tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa, người ta liên tục dâng lễ thiêu trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; and they made of it vessels for the house of Jehovah, utensils to minister, and with which to offer up, and cups, and utensils of gold and silver. And they offered up burnt-offerings in the house of Jehovah continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15 Giê-hô-gia-đa ngày càng già, rồi qua đời, thọ 130 tuổi.
And Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; he was a hundred and thirty years old when he died.
16 Người ta chôn ông trong Thành Đa-vít, nơi chôn các vua, vì ông có công với Ít-ra-ên, phục vụ Đức Chúa Trời và coi sóc Đền Thờ.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and toward his house.
17 Sau khi Giê-hô-gia-đa qua đời, các nhà lãnh đạo Giu-đa đến xu nịnh Vua Giô-ách, và thuyết phục vua nghe lời họ.
And after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and made obeisance to the king; then the king hearkened to them.
18 Họ bỏ bê Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên mình, để thờ thần A-sê-ra và các thần khác. Vì tội lỗi này, cơn giận của Đức Chúa Trời nổi lên cùng Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem.
And they forsook the house of Jehovah the God of their fathers, and served the Asherahs and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
19 Chúa Hằng Hữu sai các tiên tri đến khuyên bảo họ về với Ngài, nhưng họ không nghe.
And he sent prophets among them to bring them again to Jehovah, and they testified against them; but they would not give ear.
20 Thần Linh Đức Chúa Trời cảm động Xa-cha-ri, con Thầy Tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa. Ông đứng trước toàn dân và tuyên bố: “Đây là điều Đức Chúa Trời cảnh cáo: Tại sao các ngươi phạm các điều răn của Ngài? Các ngươi không thể nào thịnh đạt được. Các ngươi chối bỏ Chúa, bây giờ Ngài từ bỏ các ngươi.”
And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood up above the people and said unto them, Thus saith God: Wherefore do ye transgress the commandments of Jehovah? And ye cannot prosper; for ye have forsaken Jehovah, and he hath forsaken you.
21 Rồi các lãnh đạo mưu hại ông, và khi được lệnh Vua Giô-ách, họ lấy đá ném ông chết ngay trong sân Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the command of the king in the court of the house of Jehovah.
22 Như thế, Vua Giô-ách trả ơn Giê-hô-gia-đa cho những việc ông làm bằng cách giết con ông. Lúc sắp chết, Xa-cha-ri nói: “Xin Chúa Hằng Hữu chứng giám và báo ứng cho!”
And king Joash remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, Jehovah see and require [it]!
23 Vào cuối năm ấy, quân A-ram kéo đến đánh quân Giô-ách. Chúng tiến đến Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, giết hết các nhà lãnh đạo trong nước. Rồi họ gửi chiến lợi phẩm về cho vua mình ở Đa-mách.
And it came to pass at the end of the year [that] the army of Syria came up against him; and they entered into Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them to the king at Damascus.
24 Chúa Hằng Hữu cho quân A-ram thắng, mặc dù quân số rất ít so với quân Giu-đa. Vì người Giu-đa chối bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên họ nên Giô-ách bị Chúa hình phạt.
Truly with a small company of men came the army of the Syrians, but Jehovah delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Jehovah the God of their fathers; and they executed judgment upon Joash.
25 Quân A-ram bỏ đi, để lại Giô-ách thương tích nặng nề. Nhưng Giô-ách bị các thuộc hạ mình mưu sát, vì vua đã giết con của Thầy Tế lễ Giê-hô-gia-đa. Họ giết vua ngay trên giường bệnh. Người ta đem chôn vua trong Thành Đa-vít thay vì trong lăng mộ hoàng gia.
And when they had departed from him (for they left him in great diseases), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the sepulchres of the kings.
26 Những người âm mưu giết Giô-ách là Xa-bát, con của bà Si-mê-át, người Am-môn, và Giê-hô-sa-bát, con của bà Sim-rít, người Mô-áp.
And these are they that conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
27 Về các con trai của Giô-ách, các lời tiên tri về vua này, và về việc tu bổ Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời đều được chép trong Sách Các Vua. Con Giô-ách là A-ma-xia lên ngôi kế vị.
And as to his sons, and the greatness of the burdens [laid] upon him, and the building of the house of God, behold, they are written in the treatise of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
