I Sa-mu-ên 1
1 Có một người Ép-ra-im tên là Ên-ca-na, quê ở Ra-ma-tha-im Xô-phim, thuộc vùng đồi núi Ép-ra-im. Ông là con của Giê-rô-ham, cháu Ê-li-hu, chắt Tô-hu, chít Xu-phơ.
And there was a certain man of Rama-thayim-zophim, of the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.
2 Ên-ca-na có hai vợ, An-ne và Phê-ni-a. Phê-ni-a có con, còn An-ne thì son sẻ.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Hằng năm, Ên-ca-na lên Si-lô thờ phụng và dâng lễ vật lên Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân tại Đền Tạm. Thầy tế lễ của Chúa Hằng Hữu lúc ấy là hai con trai của Hê-li tên là Hóp-ni và Phi-nê-a.
And this man went up out of his city from year to year to prostrate himself and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And at that place were the two sons of 'Eli, Chophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord.
4 Vào ngày dâng sinh tế, Ên-ca-na chia cho Phê-ni-a và các con mỗi người một phần lễ vật đã dâng.
And when the day was come that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions;
5 Nhưng ông cũng chỉ cho An-ne một phần như những người khác dù ông thương yêu nàng vì Chúa Hằng Hữu cho nàng son sẻ.
But unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for Hannah he loved [greatly]; but the Lord had shut up her womb.
6 Phê-ni-a thường mang việc Chúa Hằng Hữu không cho An-ne có con ra để trêu chọc.
And her rival also provoked her continually, in order to make her fret; because the Lord had shut up her womb.
7 Và việc cứ xảy ra như thế năm này sang năm khác mỗi khi họ lên Đền Tạm. Phê-ni-a cứ trêu tức An-ne đến độ An-ne phải khóc và bỏ ăn.
And he did so year by year, as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, so did she provoke her; wherefore she wept, and did not eat.
8 Ên-ca-na tìm lời an ủi vợ: “Tại sao em khóc, An-ne? Tại sao em không ăn? Có phải em buồn bực vì không có con? Em đã có anh đây này—anh không đáng giá hơn mười đứa con trai sao?”
Then said to her Elkanah her husband, Hannah, why wilt thou weep? and why wilt thou not eat? and why should thy heart be grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9 Một hôm, tại Si-lô, sau khi ăn uống, An-ne đi lên Đền Tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu. Lúc ấy, Thầy Tế lễ Hê-li đang ngồi bên cửa đền.
And Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk; and 'Eli the priest was sitting upon a chair by the door-post of the temple of the Lord.
10 Lòng nặng sầu đau, An-ne cầu nguyện, khóc với Chúa Hằng Hữu.
But she had bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept greatly.
11 Nàng khấn nguyện: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân, nếu Ngài thấy nỗi khổ đau của con, không quên con, và cho con có một đứa con trai, thì con sẽ dâng nó cho Chúa. Trọn đời nó sẽ thuộc về Ngài, tóc nó sẽ không bao giờ bị cạo.”
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child: then will I give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.
12 Khi bà đang cầu nguyện với Chúa Hằng Hữu, thì Hê-li quan sát bà.
And it came to pass, as she continued praying long before the Lord, that 'Eli watched her mouth.
13 Thấy môi bà mấp máy, không phát thành tiếng, nên ông tưởng bà đang say.
Now as for Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice could not be heard; wherefore 'Eli regarded her as a drunken woman.
14 Ông nói: “Chị say quá rồi phải không? Đi dã rượu đi!”
And 'Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from off thee.
15 Nàng đáp: “Thưa ông, tôi không say! Tôi không bao giờ uống rượu hay những thứ làm cho say. Nhưng tôi rất buồn và đang dốc nỗi khổ tâm của tôi ra trước Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And Hannah answered and said, No, my Lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; but neither wine nor strong drink have I drunk, and I have poured out my soul before the Lord.
16 Xin ông đừng nghĩ tôi là một phụ nữ hư hỏng! Tôi cầu nguyện vì sầu khổ và buồn phiền quá đỗi.”
Esteem not thy handmaid as a worthless woman; for out of the abundance of my grief and vexation have I spoken hitherto.
17 Hê-li nói: “Chúc chị bình an! Cầu Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên ban cho chị những điều chị thỉnh cầu.”
Then 'Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant thy petition which thou hast asked of him.
18 Nàng đáp: “Xin ông đoái thương phận hèn mọn tôi.” Nói xong nàng trở về và ăn uống, và nỗi buồn được vơi đi.
And she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy eyes. The woman then went on her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no longer as before.
19 Hôm sau cả gia đình dậy sớm, lên Đền Tạm thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu. Xong lễ, họ trở về nhà tại Ra-ma. Ên-ca-na ăn ở với An-ne, Chúa Hằng Hữu đoái thương đến lời thỉnh cầu của nàng,
And they rose up early in the morning, and prostrated themselves before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house at Ramah; and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.
20 và đến kỳ sinh nở, nàng sinh một con trai. Nàng đặt tên là Sa-mu-ên, vì nàng nói: “Tôi đã cầu xin nó nơi Chúa Hằng Hữu.”
And it came to pass, after the lapse of some time, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she called his name Samuel, saying, Because from the Lord have I asked him.
21 Năm sau, gia đình Ên-ca-na lại lên Đền Tạm dâng lễ vật hằng năm và lễ vật khấn nguyện lên Chúa Hằng Hữu,
And the man Elkanah went up, with all his house, to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22 Nhưng lần này An-ne không đi. Nàng nói với chồng: “Đợi đến ngày con dứt sữa, tôi sẽ đem nó lên trình diện Chúa Hằng Hữu và để nó ở luôn tại Đền Tạm.”
But Hannah did not go up; for she said unto her husband, So soon as the child shall be weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and abide there for ever.
23 Ên-ca-na đồng ý: “Em nghĩ việc nào phải thì cứ làm. Cứ ở lại nhà, cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu giúp em giữ lời mình đã hứa nguyện.” Vậy, An-ne ở nhà săn sóc con, cho đến ngày nó dứt sữa.
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth good in thy eyes; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only may the Lord fulfill his word. So the woman remained behind, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24 Con vừa dứt sữa, An-ne đem nó lên Đền Tạm tại Si-lô. Bà cùng chồng mang theo lễ vật gồm một con bò đực ba tuổi, một giạ bột và một bầu rượu.
And she took him up with her, when she had weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brought him unto the house of the Lord at Shiloh; although the child was yet young.
25 Sau khi dâng con bò, nàng đem con đến gặp Hê-li.
And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to 'Eli.
26 Nàng nói: “Thưa thầy, tôi chính là người phụ nữ trước đây đứng nơi này cầu nguyện Chúa Hằng Hữu, có ông chứng kiến.
And she said, Pardon, my Lord, as thy soul liveth, my Lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, to pray unto the Lord.
27 Tôi đã cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu cho tôi một đứa con, và Ngài đã chấp nhận lời tôi cầu xin.
For this lad did I pray; and the Lord hath granted me my petition which I asked of him;
28 Nay, tôi xin dâng nó lên Chúa, để nó sẽ thuộc về Chúa Hằng Hữu suốt đời.” Rồi họ thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu tại đó.
Therefore also have I lent him, for my part, to the Lord; all the days that have been assigned to him shall he be lent to the Lord. And he bowed himself there before the Lord.
