I Sa-mu-ên 31
1 Khi quân Phi-li-tin tấn công Ít-ra-ên, một số người Ít-ra-ên bỏ chạy, một số khác bị giết trên Núi Ghinh-bô-a.
Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled before the face of the Philistines, and they fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
2 Quân Phi-li-tin đuổi theo Sau-lơ, giết ba con ông là Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp và Manh-ki-sua.
And the Philistines rushed upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3 Thế trận càng gay cấn khi Sau-lơ bị các xạ thủ địch đuổi bắn. Vua bị trúng tên và trọng thương.
And the entire weight of the battle was turned against Saul. And the men who were archers pursued him. And he was severely wounded by the archers.
4 Sau-lơ nói với người vác khí giới cho mình: “Lấy gươm giết ta đi, đừng để những người vô tín kia đến, đâm chém, hành hạ ta.” Nhưng người ấy sợ, không dám giết. Sau-lơ dựng gươm lên rồi sấn mình trên lưỡi gươm.
Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and strike me, otherwise these uncircumcised may come and kill me, mocking me.” And his armor bearer was not willing. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear. And so, Saul took his own sword, and he fell upon it.
5 Khi người vác khí giới của Sau-lơ thấy vua chết rồi, cũng sấn mình trên gươm tự sát bên vua.
And when his armor bearer had seen this, namely, that Saul had died, he too fell upon his sword, and he died with him.
6 Vậy trong ngày hôm ấy, Sau-lơ với ba con trai, người vác khí giới, và các thuộc hạ ông cùng chết.
Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.
7 Người Ít-ra-ên ở bên kia thung lũng và bên kia sông Giô-đan nghe tin quân Ít-ra-ên chạy trốn, Sau-lơ và ba con trai đã chết, liền bỏ thành trốn đi. Người Phi-li-tin chiếm các thành ấy.
Then, seeing that the men of the Israelites had fled, and that Saul had died with his sons, the men of Israel who were across the valley or beyond the Jordan abandoned their cities, and they fled. And the Philistines went and lived there.
8 Hôm sau, người Phi-li-tin trở lại chiến trường để vơ vét đồ đạc của những người tử trận. Họ thấy xác Sau-lơ và ba con vua nằm trên Núi Ghinh-bô-a.
Then, when the next day arrived, the Philistines came, so that they might despoil the slain. And they found Saul and his three sons lying on mount Gilboa.
9 Họ cắt đầu Sau-lơ, tước lột khí giới vua, rồi sai người đi khắp lãnh thổ Phi-li-tin báo tin mừng chiến thắng trong các đền thờ thần tượng và trong dân.
And they cut off the head of Saul. And they despoiled him of the armor, and they sent it into the land of the Philistines all around, so that it might be announced in the temples of the idols and among their people.
10 Họ để khí giới vua trong miếu thờ Át-tạt-tê, còn xác vua họ treo trên tường thành Bết-san.
And they placed his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth. But his body they suspended on the wall of Bethshan.
11 Các dũng sĩ ở Gia-be Ga-la-át hay được những điều người Phi-li-tin làm,
And when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 liền cùng nhau ra đi suốt đêm, đến Bết-san gỡ xác Sau-lơ và các con ông khỏi tường thành, đem về Gia-be hỏa táng.
all the most valiant men rose up, and they walked all night, and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan. And they went to Jabesh Gilead, and they burned them there.
13 Rồi họ lấy cốt chôn cạnh gốc một cây me ở Gia-be, và họ kiêng ăn suốt bảy ngày để tang Sau-lơ.
And they took their bones, and they buried them in the forest of Jabesh. And they fasted for seven days.
