I Sa-mu-ên 14
1 Hôm sau, Giô-na-than nói với người vác khí giới cho mình: “Nào, chúng ta hãy đi qua bên đồn Phi-li-tin.” Nhưng Giô-na-than không cho cha mình hay.
Then on a day Ionathan the sonne of Saul sayde vnto the yong man that bare his armour, Come and let vs goe ouer towarde the Philistims garison, that is yonder on the other side, but he tolde not his father.
2 Lúc ấy, Sau-lơ và 600 quân đang đóng ở ngoại ô thành Ghi-bê-a, dưới cây lựu ở Mi-gơ-rôn.
And Saul taried in the border of Gibeah vnder a pomegranate tree, which was in Migron, and the people that were with him, were about sixe hundreth men.
3 Trong nhóm người của Sau-lơ có A-hi-gia, làm chức tế lễ, ông mặc ê-phót, áo của thầy tế lế. A-hi-gia là con A-hi-túp, anh Y-ca-bốt, cháu nội của Phi-nê-a, chắt của Hê-li, thầy tế lễ của Chúa Hằng Hữu tại Si-lô. Không người nào biết việc Giô-na-than rời khỏi trại Ít-ra-ên.
And Ahiah the sonne of Ahitub, Ichabods brother, the sonne of Phinehas, the sonne of Eli, was the Lordes Priest in Shiloh, and ware an Ephod: and the people knewe not that Ionathan was gone.
4 Trên đường đến đồn Phi-li-tin, Giô-na-than phải qua một cái đèo nằm giữa hai rặng núi đá dốc đứng, tên là Bết-sốt và Sê-nê.
Nowe in the way whereby Ionathan sought to go ouer to the Philistims garison, there was a sharpe rocke on the one side, and a sharpe rocke on the other side: the name of the one was called Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
5 Núi đá ở phía bắc đèo đối diện Mích-ma, còn núi phía nam đối diện Ghê-ba.
The one rocke stretched from the North towarde Michmash, and the other was from the South toward Gibeah.
6 Giô-na-than nói với người mang khí giới cho mình: “Chúng ta hãy tiến đến đồn của những người vô tín kia. Có lẽ Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ giúp chúng ta, vì không điều gì có thể giấu Chúa Hằng Hữu. Chúa vẫn chiến thắng dù Ngài có nhiều đội quân hay chỉ có vài đội quân!”
And Ionathan saide to the yong man that bare his armour, Come, and let vs goe ouer vnto the garison of these vncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will worke with vs: for it is not hard to the Lord to saue with many, or with fewe.
7 Người vác khí giới đáp: “Xin cứ làm theo điều ông cho là phải. Tôi xin theo ông hết lòng.”
And he that bare his armour, saide vnto him, Doe all that is in thine heart: goe where it pleaseth thee: beholde, I am with thee as thine heart desireth.
8 Giô-na-than tiếp: “Trước tiên ta sẽ để cho địch thấy ta.
Then said Ionathan, Beholde, we goe ouer vnto those men, and will shewe our selues vnto them.
9 Nếu họ nói: ‘Hãy dừng lại đó nếu không chúng ta sẽ giết ông,’ thì chúng ta phải dừng lại và thôi không tiến lên đánh họ nữa.
If they say on this wise to vs, Tarie vntill we come to you, then we will stand still in our place, and not goe vp to them.
10 Nhưng nếu họ nói: ‘Hãy lên đây và chiến đấu,’ thì chúng ta sẽ lên. Đó là dấu hiệu Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ giúp chúng ta đánh bại họ.”
But if they say, Come vp vnto vs, then we will goe vp: for the Lord hath deliuered them into our hande: and this shall be a signe vnto vs.
11 Khi thấy hai người đến, quân Phi-li-tin trong đồn la lên: “Kìa! Người Hê-bơ-rơ đang chui ra khỏi hang trú ẩn.”
So they both shewed themselues vnto the garison of the Philistims: and the Philistims said, See, the Ebrewes come out of the holes wherein they had hid themselues.
12 Rồi họ lớn tiếng gọi Giô-na-than: “Lên đây, ta sẽ dạy cho các anh một bài học!” Giô-na-than nói với người vác khí giới: “Hãy trèo theo sau tôi, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ giúp chúng ta đánh bại họ.”
And the men of the garison answered Ionathan, and his armour bearer, and said, Come vp to vs: for we will shewe you a thing. Then Ionathan said vnto his armour bearer, Come vp after me: for the Lord hath deliuered them into the hand of Israel.
13 Vậy hai người dùng cả tay và chân leo lên, Giô-na-than đánh quân Phi-li-tin ngã gục, người vác khí giới giết những ai đến phía sau họ.
So Ionathan went vp vpon his hands and vpon his feete, and his armour bearer after him: and some fell before Ionathan, and his armour bearer slewe others after him.
14 Và họ giết chừng hai mươi người, nằm la liệt trên một khoảnh đất rộng chừng nửa mẫu.
So the first slaughter which Ionathan and his armour bearer made, was about twentie men, as it were within halfe an acre of land which two oxen plowe.
15 Sự kinh hoàng lan tràn trong đội quân Phi-li-tin, từ trong trại cho đến ngoài đồng, quân trong đồn và các toán quân đột kích. Như một trận động đất vừa giáng xuống, mọi người đều khiếp đảm.
And there was a feare in the hoste, and in the field, and among all the people: the garison also, and they that went out to spoyle, were afraid themselues: and the earth trembled: for it was striken with feare by God.
16 Lính trên vọng canh của Sau-lơ ở tại Ghi-bê-a thuộc Bên-gia-min đều nhìn thấy cảnh quân địch chạy tới chạy lui hỗn loạn.
Then the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Beniamin sawe: and beholde, the multitude was discomfited, and smitten as they went.
17 Sau-lơ ra lệnh: “Hãy điểm lại số quân rời khỏi hàng ngũ.” Khi kiểm lại, họ thấy thiếu Giô-na-than và người vác khí giới cho ông.
Therefore saide Saul vnto the people that were with him, Search nowe and see, who is gone from vs. And when they had nombred, beholde, Ionathan and his armour bearer were not there.
18 Sau-lơ hét to với A-hi-gia: “Hãy đem Hòm Giao Ước của Đức Chúa Trời đến đây.” Vì lúc ấy Hòm của Đức Chúa Trời đang ở giữa người Ít-ra-ên.
And Saul said vnto Ahiah, Bring hither the Arke of God (for the Arke of God was at that time with the children of Israel)
19 Trong khi Sau-lơ còn đang nói với thầy tế lễ, tiếng ồn ào từ đồn Phi-li-tin càng lúc càng tăng. Vì vậy Sau-lơ nói với thầy tế lễ: “Hãy ngừng lại!”
And while Saul talked vnto the Priest, the noyse that was in the hoste of the Philistims, spred farther abroade, and encreased: therefore Saul said vnto the Priest, Withdraw thine hand.
20 Sau-lơ tập họp quân sĩ, kéo ra trận. Một cảnh hỗn loạn đập vào mắt ông: Địch quân đang chém giết lẫn nhau.
And Saul was assembled with all the people that were with him, and they came to the battell: and behold, euery mans sworde was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
21 Những người Hê-bơ-rơ bị địch chiêu dụ trước kia, đang ở trong đồn Phi-li-tin, nay chạy qua phía Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than.
Moreouer, the Ebrewes that were with the Philistims beforetime, and were come with them into all partes of the hoste, euen they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Ionathan.
22 Đồng thời, những người lánh nạn trên đồi núi Ép-ra-im hay được tin quân Phi-li-tin vỡ chạy, liền cùng nhau đuổi đánh quân địch.
Also all the men of Israel which had hid themselues in mount Ephraim, when they heard, that the Philistims were fled, they followed after them in the battell.
23 Và như vậy, Chúa Hằng Hữu giải cứu Ít-ra-ên hôm ấy, chiến trận lan ra cho đến Bết-a-ven.
And so the Lord saued Israel that day: and the battell continued vnto Beth-auen.
24 Hôm ấy, quân sĩ Ít-ra-ên bị kiệt sức vì Sau-lơ có thề: “Từ nay cho đến tối, là khi ta trả thù xong quân địch, nếu ai ăn một vật gì, người ấy phải bị nguyền rủa.” Vậy không ai dám ăn gì hết,
And at that time the men of Israel were pressed with hunger: for Saul charged the people with an othe, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth foode till night, that I may be auenged of mine enemies: so none of the people tasted any sustenance.
25 dù họ vào một khu rừng, thấy mật ong nhỏ giọt xuống đất.
And all they of the land came to a wood, where hony lay vpon the ground.
26 Họ không dám đụng đến mật ong, vì sợ lời thề.
And the people came into the wood, and beholde, the hony dropped, and no man mooued his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the othe.
27 Nhưng Giô-na-than không biết cha mình có buộc quân sĩ tôn trọng lời thề trên, nên ông chấm đầu gậy vào mật, đưa lên miệng, và mắt ông sáng lên.
But Ionathan heard not when his father charged the people with the othe: wherefore he put foorth the ende of the rod that was in his hand, and dipt it in an hony combe, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes receiued sight.
28 Nhưng một người thấy ông và nói: “Cha của ông đã buộc quân lính thề rằng bất cứ ai ăn trong ngày hôm nay sẽ bị nguyền rủa. Đó là lý do mọi người đều kiệt sức.”
Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father made the people to sweare, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth sustenance this day: and the people were faint.
29 Giô-na-than nói: “Cha tôi đã gây khó khăn cho chúng ta! Nhờ nếm tí mật này, tôi thấy tỉnh người.
Then said Ionathan, My father hath troubled the land: see nowe howe mine eyes are made cleare, because I haue tasted a litle of this honie:
30 Nếu mọi người được tự do ăn những thực phẩm lấy được của quân thù, thì quân ta có thể giết nhiều quân Phi-li-tin hơn nữa.”
Howe much more, if the people had eaten to day of the spoyle of their enemies which they found? for had there not bene nowe a greater slaughter among the Philistims?
31 Hôm ấy, mặc dù đói mệt, quân Ít-ra-ên vẫn đánh giết quân Phi-li-tin nằm dài từ Mích-ma đến A-gia-lôn.
And they smote the Philistims that day, from Michmash to Aiialon: and the people were exceeding faint.
32 Cuối cùng vì đói quá, họ xông vào bắt bò, chiên lấy được của địch, giết vội, ăn thịt chưa khô máu.
So the people turned to the spoile, and tooke sheepe, and oxen, and calues, and slewe them on the ground, and the people did eate them with the blood.
33 Có người báo với Sau-lơ: “Quân ta phạm tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu, ăn thịt vẫn còn máu.” Sau-lơ nói: “Tội này nặng lắm! Hãy tìm một khối đá lớn và lăn lại đây.
Then men tolde Saul, saying, Beholde, the people sinne against the Lord, in that they eate with the blood. And he saide, Ye haue trespassed: roule a great stone vnto me this day.
34 Rồi cho người đi truyền cho quân lính khắp nơi: ‘Đem bò, chiên, và dê đến cho ta. Hãy giết chúng, cho máu chảy ra hết rồi mới được ăn. Không được ăn thịt còn máu vì làm vậy là phạm tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu.’” Vậy, tối ấy quân lính đem súc vật của mình đến và giết chúng tại đó.
Againe Saul said, Goe abroade among the people, and bid them bring me euery man his oxe, and euery man his sheepe, and slay them here, and eate and sinne not against the Lord in eating with the blood. And ye people brought euery man his oxe in his hand that night, and slew them there.
35 Sau-lơ lập một bàn thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu; đó là bàn thờ thứ nhất ông lập cho Chúa Hằng Hữu.
Then Saul made an altar vnto the Lord, and that was the first altar that he made vnto the Lord.
36 Rồi Sau-lơ truyền lệnh: “Ta nên đuổi theo quân Phi-li-tin suốt đêm, và cướp phá họ cho đến sáng sớm. Không để một ai sống sót.” Quân lính tán thành: “Chúng tôi xin làm điều gì vua cho là phải.” Nhưng thầy tế lễ nói: “Chúng ta nên cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời trước.”
And Saul saide, Let vs goe downe after the Philistims by night, and spoyle them vntill the morning shine, and let vs not leaue a man of them. And they saide, Doe whatsoeuer thou thinkest best. Then saide the Priest, Let vs drawe neere hither vnto God.
37 Sau-lơ cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời: “Chúng con có nên đuổi theo người Phi-li-tin không? Ngài có cho chúng con thắng họ không?” Nhưng Đức Chúa Trời không đáp lời.
So Saul asked of God, saying, Shall I goe downe after ye Philistims? wilt thou deliuer them into the hands of Israel? But he answered him not at that time.
38 Thấy thế, Sau-lơ nói với các vị lãnh đạo: “Có điều gì sai trật sao! Hãy triệu tập tất cả tướng chỉ huy đến đây. Chúng ta phải tra cứu để tìm xem ai đã phạm tội hôm ấy.
And Saul said, All ye chiefe of the people, come ye hither, and knowe, and see by whom this sinne is done this day.
39 Ta đã nhân danh Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đấng cứu giúp Ít-ra-ên, mà thề rằng ai phạm tội chắc chắn phải chết, dù đó là Giô-na-than, con ta.” Nhưng không một ai đáp lời ông cả.
For as the Lord liueth, which saueth Israel, though it be done by Ionathan my sonne, he shall dye the death. But none of all the people answered him.
40 Sau-lơ nói: “Giô-na-than và ta sẽ đứng bên này, còn mọi người đứng bên kia.” Mọi người đáp lời Sau-lơ: “Chúng tôi xin làm theo điều vua cho là phải.”
Then he saide vnto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Ionathan my sonne will be on the other side. And the people saide vnto Saul, Doe what thou thinkest best.
41 Rồi Sau-lơ cầu nguyện: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, xin dạy cho chúng con biết ai có tội và ai vô tội.” Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than bị chỉ ra, còn những người khác vô can.
Then Saul said vnto the Lord God of Israel, Giue a perfite lot. And Ionathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.
42 Sau-lơ lại cầu: “Xin chỉ định giữa con và Giô-na-than.” Giô-na-than bị chỉ danh.
And Saul saide, Cast lot betweene me and Ionathan my sonne. And Ionathan was taken.
43 Sau-lơ hỏi Giô-na-than: “Con đã làm điều gì vậy?” Giô-na-than thưa: “Con đã nếm một chút mật trên đầu gậy. Con xin chịu chết.”
Then Saul said to Ionathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Ionathan tolde him, and said, I tasted a litle hony with the ende of the rod, that was in mine hand, and loe, I must die.
44 Sau-lơ nói: “Giô-na-than, con phải chết! Nếu không, xin Đức Chúa Trời phạt cha chết hay nặng hơn thế nữa.”
Againe Saul answered, God doe so and more also, vnlesse thou die the death, Ionathan.
45 Nhưng dân chúng nói với Sau-lơ: “Giô-na-than đã mang lại chiến thắng vĩ đại cho Ít-ra-ên. Lẽ nào người phải chết sao? Nhất định không! Chúng tôi thề trước Chúa Hằng Hữu Hằng Sống, Giô-na-than sẽ không mất một sợi tóc, vì chính người đã thực hiện công việc của Đức Chúa Trời hôm nay.” Như thế, dân chúng đã cứu Giô-na-than, và ông không phải chết.
And the people said vnto Saul, Shall Ionathan die, who hath so mightily deliuered Israel? God forbid. As the Lord liueth, there shall not one heare of his head fall to the ground: for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people deliuered Ionathan that he dyed not.
46 Sau-lơ bỏ ý định đuổi theo quân Phi-li-tin, và người Phi-li-tin trở về xứ mình.
Then Saul came vp from the Philistims: and the Philistims went to their owne place.
47 Từ ngày lên làm vua Ít-ra-ên, Sau-lơ chiến đấu với địch khắp bốn bề: Quân Mô-áp, Am-môn, Ê-đôm, các vua của Xô-ba, và quân Phi-li-tin. Xuất quân phía nào vua dẹp yên phía ấy.
So Saul helde the kingdome ouer Israel, and fought against all his enemies on euery side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the Kings of Zobah, and against the Philistims: and whithersoeuer he went, he handled them as wicked men.
48 Vua anh dũng chiến thắng quân A-ma-léc, và giải cứu Ít-ra-ên khỏi các nước đã cướp phá họ.
He gathered also an hoste and smote Amalek, and deliuered Israel out of the handes of them that spoyled them.
49 Sau-lơ có ba con trai là Giô-na-than, Ích-vi, và Manh-ki-sua. Ông cũng có hai con gái là Mê-ráp và Mi-canh.
Nowe the sonnes of Saul were Ionathan, and Ishui, and Malchishua: and the names of his two daughters, the elder was called Merab, and the yonger was named Michal.
50 Vợ Sau-lơ là A-hi-nô-am, con gái A-hi-mát. Tướng chỉ huy quân đội của Sau-lơ là Áp-ne, con của Nê-rơ, chú Sau-lơ.
And the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of his chiefe captaine was Abner the sonne of Ner, Sauls vncle.
51 Kích, cha Sau-lơ và Nê-rơ, cha Áp-ne đều là con của A-bi-ên.
And Kish was Sauls father: and Ner the father of Abner was the sonne of Abiel.
52 Ít-ra-ên chiến đấu với quân Phi-li-tin dai dẳng suốt đời Sau-lơ. Mỗi khi Sau-lơ thấy người trai trẻ nào can đảm và mạnh mẽ, ông liền chiêu mộ vào đội quân của mình.
And there was sore warre against the Philistims all the dayes of Saul: and whomsoeuer Saul sawe to be a strong man, and meete for the warre, he tooke him vnto him.
