I Sa-mu-ên 12
1 Sa-mu-ên nói với người Ít-ra-ên: “Tôi đã làm theo lời anh chị em yêu cầu, lập lên một vua cai trị anh chị em.
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and I have set a king over you.
2 Từ nay, vua sẽ lãnh đạo anh chị em, còn tôi đã già, tóc đã bạc, nhưng các con tôi vẫn ở gần anh chị em. Tôi đã lãnh đạo anh chị em từ khi tôi còn trẻ cho đến nay.
And now, behold, the king is walking before you; and I am old and gray-headed; and my sons, behold, they are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth even until this day.
3 Bây giờ, trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu và trước mặt vua được Ngài xức dầu tấn phong, xin anh chị em làm chứng cho: Tôi có bắt bò hay lừa của ai không? Tôi có lường gạt áp bức ai không? Tôi có nhận hối lộ của ai để bịt mắt làm ngơ trước một việc gì không? Nếu có, tôi sẵn sàng đền bù.”
Behold, here am I; testify against me in the presence of the Lord, and in the presence of his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or from whose hand have I received any ransom so that I withdrew my eyes from him? and I will restore it you.
4 Họ đáp: “Không, ông không hề lường gạt, áp bức chúng tôi, cũng không bao giờ lấy của ai vật gì.”
And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor hast thou oppressed us, and thou hast not taken from any man's hand the least.
5 Sa-mu-ên tiếp: “Hôm nay xin Chúa Hằng Hữu chứng giám, và xin vua được Ngài xức dầu chứng tri, tôi không hề lấy của ai vật gì.” Toàn dân đồng thanh: “Xin Ngài chứng giám cho.”
And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found in my hand the least: and they answered, He is witness.
6 Sau đó, Sa-mu-ên khuyến cáo dân chúng: “Chúa Hằng Hữu đã chọn Môi-se và A-rôn. Ngài đã đem tổ tiên anh chị em ra khỏi Ai Cập.
And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord who did [wonders through] Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7 Bây giờ xin anh chị em đứng yên lặng trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, để nghe tôi nhắc lại những việc tốt lành Chúa Hằng Hữu đã thực hiện cho anh chị em và tổ tiên của anh chị em.
And now stand up, that I may hold judgment with you before the Lord concerning all the benefits of the Lord, which he hath done to you and to your fathers.
8 Khi Gia-cốp đến Ai Cập và bị người ta ức hiếp, tổ tiên ta kêu cứu với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Ngài sai Môi-se và A-rôn đem họ ra khỏi Ai Cập, đưa họ vào sinh sống trong đất này.
When Jacob was come into Egypt, then did your fathers cry unto the Lord, and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and caused them to dwell in this place.
9 Nhưng rồi dân chúng quên Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của họ, nên Ngài đã nộp họ vào tay Si-sê-ra, tướng chỉ huy quân đội của Hát-so, cả quân Phi-li-tin và quân Mô-áp cũng đánh bại họ.
And when they forgot the Lord their God, he sold them into the hand of Sissera, the chief of the host of Chazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they made war against them.
10 Họ lại kêu cứu cùng Chúa Hằng Hữu: ‘Chúng tôi có tội, từ bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, thờ Ba-anh và Át-tạt-tê. Nay xin giải cứu chúng tôi khỏi tay quân thù, thì chúng tôi sẽ thờ phụng Ngài và chỉ một mình Ngài.’
And they cried [then] unto the Lord, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord, and have served the Be'alim and the 'Ashtaroth; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
11 Chúa Hằng Hữu sai Giê-ru-ba-anh, Ba-rác, Giép-thê, và Sa-mu-ên giải cứu anh chị em, cho anh chị em sống an ổn.
And the Lord sent Yerubba'al, and Bedan, and Yiphthach, and Samuel, and he delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, so that ye dwelt safely.
12 Nhưng khi thấy Na-hách, vua Am-môn kéo quân đến đánh, anh chị em đến với tôi và đòi một vua cai trị anh chị em, dù Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời vẫn là Vua của anh chị em.
But when ye saw that Nachash the king of the children of 'Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, No; but a king shall reign over us: when the Lord your God is your king.
13 Được thôi, đây là vua mà anh chị em đã chọn. Anh chị em đòi vua thì Chúa Hằng Hữu ban cho theo đòi hỏi của anh chị em.
And now here is the king whom ye have chosen, whom ye have asked for! and, behold, the Lord hath set over you a king.
14 Nếu anh chị em kính sợ, thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu, vâng theo lời Ngài, và nếu anh chị em không phản nghịch mệnh lệnh của Chúa Hằng Hữu, thì anh chị em và vua của anh chị em phải tỏ rằng anh chị em xưng nhận Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời của anh chị em.
If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and will not rebel against the will of the Lord: then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God.
15 Nhưng nếu anh chị em không vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, phản nghịch Ngài, thì Ngài sẽ ra tay hành hạ anh chị em như Ngài đã hành hạ tổ tiên anh chị em vậy.
But if ye will not hearken to the voice of the Lord, and rebel against the will of the Lord: then will the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16 Bây giờ, mọi người đứng yên để xem việc kỳ diệu Chúa Hằng Hữu sắp thực hiện.
And now stand up and see this great thing, which the Lord is about doing before your eyes.
17 Anh chị em biết hiện tại không có mưa trong mùa gặt lúa mì. Tôi sẽ cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu cho có sấm sét và mưa hôm nay, rồi anh chị em sẽ nhận biết mình mang tội rất nặng vì đòi phải có vua!”
Is there not wheat-harvest today? I will call unto the Lord, and he will send thunders and rain; and ye will [thus] perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done, in the eyes of the Lord, to ask for yourselves a king.
18 Sa-mu-ên kêu cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu; ngay hôm ấy Chúa Hằng Hữu liền cho sấm sét vang rền và mưa trút xuống. Mọi người khiếp sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu và Sa-mu-ên.
And Samuel called unto the Lord; and the Lord sent thunders and rain on that day: and all the people feared greatly the Lord and Samuel.
19 Họ năn nỉ Sa-mu-ên: “Xin cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông cho chúng tôi; nếu không, chắc chúng tôi phải chết! Chúng tôi đã gia tăng tội mình vì đòi có vua.”
And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray in behalf of thy servants unto the Lord thy God, that we may not die; for we have added unto all our sins yet this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.
20 Thấy thế, Sa-mu-ên trấn an dân chúng: “Đừng sợ. Anh chị em đã phạm tội thật, nhưng từ nay nhớ thờ phụng Chúa Hằng Hữu hết lòng, đừng từ bỏ Ngài.
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, and serve ye the Lord with all your heart;
21 Đừng theo các thần tượng vì thần tượng vô dụng, không cứu giúp được anh chị em.
And turn ye not aside; for then would ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; because they are vain.
22 Vì danh tính cao cả của Chúa Hằng Hữu, Ngài sẽ không từ bỏ dân của Ngài đâu. Ngài cho anh chị em làm dân của Ngài theo ý muốn Ngài.
For the Lord will not forsake his people for the sake of his great name; because it hath pleased the Lord to make you a people unto himself.
23 Phần tôi, tôi sẽ tiếp tục cầu nguyện cho anh chị em; nếu không, tôi có tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu. Tôi cũng sẽ chỉ dẫn anh chị em đường ngay lẽ phải.
Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray in behalf of you; but I will teach you the good and the right way:
24 Nhớ kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu và trung tín phục vụ Ngài. Hãy luôn nghĩ đến những công việc diệu kỳ Ngài đã làm cho anh chị em.
Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for see what great things he hath done with you.
25 Nhưng nếu anh chị em cứ làm điều ác, anh chị em và vua mình sẽ bị diệt vong.”
But if ye will in any wise do wickedly, both ye yourselves as also your king shall perish.
