I Sa-mu-ên 11

1 Khoảng một tháng sau, Vua Na-hách của Am-môn dẫn quân tiến đánh Ít-ra-ên tại Gia-be Ga-la-át. Người Ít-ra-ên trong thành Gia-be cầu xin hòa bình: “Xin kết hòa ước với chúng tôi, chúng tôi sẽ phục vụ ông.”

and to ascend: rise Nahash [the] Ammon and to camp upon Jabesh (Jabesh)-gilead and to say all human Jabesh (Gilead) to(wards) Nahash to cut: make(covenant) to/for us covenant and to serve you

2 Na-hách trả lời: “Được, nhưng với điều kiện. Mọi người phải bị ta móc mắt bên phải để làm sỉ nhục toàn dân Ít-ra-ên!”

and to say to(wards) them Nahash [the] Ammon in/on/with this to cut: make(covenant) to/for you in/on/with to dig to/for you all eye right and to set: put her reproach upon all Israel

3 Các trưởng lão Gia-be đáp: “Xin hoãn cho bảy ngày để chúng tôi sai người đi các nơi cầu cứu. Nếu không được, chúng tôi sẽ đồng ý điều kiện của ông.”

5 Vừa lúc đó Sau-lơ đi cày ngoài đồng về, ông hỏi: “Chuyện gì thế? Vì sao mọi người khóc lóc như vậy?” Họ kể cho ông nghe việc xảy ra ở Gia-be.

6 Sau-lơ nghe tin này, Thần Linh của Đức Chúa Trời giáng mạnh trên ông và cơn giận ông nổi lên.

7 Ông bắt một cặp bò sả ra từng miếng, rồi sai sứ giả đem đi khắp lãnh thổ Ít-ra-ên, rao rằng: “Ai không theo Sa-mu-ên và Sau-lơ ra trận, bò của người ấy sẽ bị chặt nát ra như thế này.” Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến dân chúng sợ hãi trước cơn giận của Sau-lơ, họ cùng nhau răm rắp đi theo.

8 Tại Bê-xéc, Sau-lơ kiểm tra quân số thấy có 300.000 người Ít-ra-ên và 30.000 người Giu-đa.

9 Người ta bảo các sứ giả trở về Gia-be Ga-la-át báo tin: “Trưa mai, anh em sẽ được tiếp cứu.” Khi nghe tin này, người Gia-be mừng lắm.

10 Người Gia-be nói với quân địch: “Ngày mai chúng tôi xin ra đầu hàng, và ông sẽ đối xử chúng tôi thế nào tùy ý.”

11 Sáng sớm hôm sau, Sau-lơ chia quân ra làm ba đạo, xông vào tấn công quân Am-môn và đánh giết cho đến trưa. Tàn quân chạy tản mác mỗi người một ngả.

12 Có người đề nghị với Sa-mu-ên: “Xin đem xử tử những ai đã dám phản đối việc Sau-lơ lên ngôi!”

and to say [the] people to(wards) Samuel who? [the] to say Saul to reign upon us to give: give [the] human and to die them

13 Nhưng Sau-lơ nói: “Không một ai phải bị xử tử hôm nay cả, vì là ngày Chúa Hằng Hữu giải cứu Ít-ra-ên!”

14 Sa-mu-ên nói với dân chúng: “Chúng ta đến Ghinh-ganh để lập lại vương quốc.”

15 Vậy mọi người đi đến Ghinh-ganh và trước sự chứng giám của Chúa Hằng Hữu, họ làm lễ tấn phong Sau-lơ làm vua. Họ dâng tế lễ bình an lên Chúa Hằng Hữu, Sau-lơ và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên đều vô cùng hân hoan.
