I Các Vua 5
1 Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, vốn có nhiều thiện cảm với Đa-vít, nên khi nghe Sa-lô-môn lên ngôi kế vị vua cha, liền gửi sứ giả đến chúc mừng.
Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2 Sa-lô-môn cũng sai sứ đến trình bày với Hi-ram:
Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3 “Như vua đã biết, Đa-vít, cha tôi, không thể cất Đền Thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của mình, vì phải chinh chiến với các dân tộc chung quanh, cho đến khi Chúa Hằng Hữu cho người chế ngự hết cừu địch.
"You know how that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
4 Ngày nay, Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tôi, cho tôi được hòa bình, an ổn mọi phía, không còn bóng dáng quân thù hay loạn nghịch.
But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.
5 Nay tôi định cất một Đền Thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời tôi, như Ngài đã bảo Đa-vít, cha tôi: ‘Con trai con, người được Ta cho lên ngôi kế vị con, sẽ cất cho Ta một Đền Thờ cho Danh Ta.’
Look, I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for my name.'
6 Vậy, xin vua cho người đốn gỗ bá hương ở Li-ban cho tôi. Tôi sẽ gửi nhân công đến giúp họ, và trả lương cho công nhân của vua theo mức vua ấn định. Vì như vua biết, không ai trong Ít-ra-ên thạo đốn gỗ bằng người Si-đôn!”
Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon. My servants shall be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you shall say. For you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians."
7 Nghe xong lời này, Hi-ram vui mừng nói: “Cảm tạ Chúa Hằng Hữu, vì Ngài đã cho Đa-vít người con khôn ngoan để cai trị một nước đông dân như thế.”
It happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed is the LORD this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people."
8 Sau đó, vua sai sứ đáp lời Sa-lô-môn như sau: “Tôi đã nhận được lời vua sai nói với tôi. Tôi sẵn lòng làm theo điều vua yêu cầu về gỗ bá hương và trắc bá.
Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will satisfy all your desire concerning cedar wood and concerning the wood of evergreens.
9 Nhân công của tôi sẽ kéo gỗ từ núi Li-ban xuống biển, kết gỗ thành bè, thả biển cho đến vị trí vua định. Tại đó chúng tôi sẽ rã bè, giao gỗ cho vua; tôi mong vua sẽ cung cấp thực phẩm cho công nhân của tôi.”
My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them. You shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household."
10 Vậy, Hi-ram cung cấp tất cả số gỗ bá hương và trắc bá mà Sa-lô-môn cần.
So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.
11 Đồng thời, Sa-lô-môn trả cho Hi-ram hằng năm ba triệu sáu trăm bốn mươi nghìn lít lúa mì làm lương thực cho các nhân công, cộng thêm 110.000 thùng dầu nguyên chất.
Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat for food to his household, and twenty thousand baths of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year.
12 Vậy, Chúa Hằng Hữu cho Sa-lô-môn sự khôn ngoan như Ngài đã hứa. Hi-ram và Sa-lô-môn cùng ký hòa ước hữu nghị.
The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and the two of them made a covenant.
13 Vua Sa-lô-môn trưng dụng 30.000 nhân công trong toàn cõi Ít-ra-ên
King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14 và gửi đi Li-ban mỗi tháng 10.000 người. Các nhân công luân phiên nhau, một tháng làm việc tại Li-ban, hai tháng ở nhà. A-đô-ni-ram điều khiển đoàn công nhân này.
He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor.
15 Sa-lô-môn có 70.000 nhân công khuân vác, 80.000 thợ đẽo đá trên núi,
Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains;
16 và 3.300 đốc công trông coi phu thợ làm việc.
besides Solomon's chief officers who were over the work, three thousand and six hundred, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work.
17 Theo chỉ thị của vua, họ đào và đẽo những tảng đá lớn rất quý, dùng làm nền Đền Thờ.
The king commanded, and they cut out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone.
18 Thợ của Sa-lô-môn và Hi-ram được những người Ghi-ba giúp đỡ trong việc đào núi đẽo đá và chuẩn bị cây gỗ sẵn sàng để xây Đền Thờ.
Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
