I Các Vua 19
1 Khi Vua A-háp thuật cho Hoàng hậu Giê-sa-bên nghe các việc Ê-li đã làm, kể cả việc Ê-li chém chết các tiên tri Ba-anh,
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Giê-sa-bên sai người nói với Ê-li: “Nếu giờ này vào ngày mai mà ta không làm cho mạng sống ngươi như mạng sống của một người trong bọn chúng, nguyện các thần linh trừng phạt ta.”
Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 Ê-li sợ, nên chạy trốn. Đến Bê-e-sê-ba thuộc Giu-đa, ông để đầy tớ mình ở lại,
And when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which [belongeth] to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 rồi đi suốt ngày vào trong hoang mạc. Ông đến ngồi dưới bóng một giếng giêng, cầu cho được chết: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, đủ rồi, xin cất mạng con đi, vì con chẳng khá gì hơn cha ông con cả!”
But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I [am] not better than my fathers.
5 Sau đó, ông nằm xuống ngủ dưới cây giếng giêng. Một thiên sứ đụng vào người ông, bảo ông dậy và ăn.
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise [and] eat.
6 Ông mở mắt, thấy một cái bánh nướng trên than nóng và một bình nước đặt cạnh đầu mình. Ông dậy, ăn, uống, và lại nằm xuống.
And he looked, and, behold, [there was] a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 Thiên sứ của Chúa Hằng Hữu lại đến, đụng vào người ông một lần nữa và bảo: “Dậy, ăn thêm đi để lấy sức vì đường còn xa lắm.”
And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise [and] eat; because the journey [is] too great for thee.
8 Ông ngồi dậy ăn uống; nhờ vậy, ông có đủ sức đi bốn mươi ngày đêm đến Hô-rếp, ngọn núi của Đức Chúa Trời.
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 Đến nơi, ông trú trong một hang đá và nghỉ đêm tại đó. Tại đó Chúa Hằng Hữu hỏi ông: “Con làm gì ở đây, Ê-li?”
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 Ông thưa: “Con vẫn giữ lòng nhiệt thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời Toàn Năng. Nhưng người Ít-ra-ên đã phạm giao ước của Chúa, phá dỡ bàn thờ, và chém giết các tiên tri của Ngài. Bây giờ chỉ có một mình con còn lại, và họ đang truy nã để giết con.”
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, [even] I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo: “Con đi ra, đứng trên núi trước mặt Ta. Vì Ta sắp đi qua.” Lúc ấy, một ngọn gió mạnh xé núi ra, làm những tảng đá vỡ vụn bắn tung tóe, nhưng không có Chúa Hằng Hữu trong ngọn gió. Sau ngọn gió, có một trận động đất, nhưng không có Chúa Hằng Hữu trong trận động đất.
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; [but] the LORD [was] not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the LORD [was] not in the earthquake:
12 Sau trận động đất, có một đám lửa bùng cháy, nhưng không có Chúa Hằng Hữu trong đám lửa. Sau đám lửa, có một tiếng nói êm dịu nhẹ nhàng.
And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 Khi nghe tiếng ấy, Ê-li lấy chiếc áo choàng phủ kín mặt và đi ra đứng tại cửa hang. Có tiếng hỏi: “Con làm gì ở đây, Ê-li?”
And it was [so], when Elijah heard [it], that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, [there came] a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14 Ông thưa: “Con vẫn giữ lòng nhiệt thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời Toàn Năng. Nhưng người Ít-ra-ên đã vi phạm giao ước của Chúa, phá dỡ bàn thờ, và chém giết các tiên tri của Ngài. Bây giờ chỉ có một mình con còn lại, và họ đang truy nã để giết con.”
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, [even] I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15 Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo ông: “Con trở lại con đường con đã đi và đến vùng hoang mạc Đa-mách. Đến nơi, con sẽ xức dầu tấn phong Ha-xa-ên làm vua A-ram.
And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael [to be] king over Syria:
16 Rồi xức dầu tấn phong Giê-hu, con Nim-si, làm vua Ít-ra-ên, và xức dầu cho Ê-li-sê, con Sa-phát, ở A-bên Mê-hô-la làm tiên tri thay con.
And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint [to be] king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint [to be] prophet in thy room.
17 Ai thoát khỏi gươm của Ha-xa-ên sẽ bị Giê-hu giết; ai thoát khỏi gươm của Giê-hu sẽ bị Ê-li-sê giết.
And it shall come to pass, [that] him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Tuy nhiên, trong Ít-ra-ên vẫn còn 7.000 người không hề quỳ gối trước Ba-anh và môi họ không hề hôn nó!”
Yet I have left [me] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19 Vậy, Ê-li lên đường và thấy Ê-li-sê, con Sa-phát, đang cày ruộng. Có mười hai cặp bò đang kéo cày và Ê-li-sê cày cặp thứ mười hai. Ê-li đi qua, ném áo choàng mình trên Ê-li-sê.
So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who [was] plowing [with] twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20 Ê-li-sê bỏ bò, chạy theo Ê-li, và nói: “Xin cho tôi về từ giã cha mẹ tôi đã, rồi tôi sẽ theo ông!” Ê-li bảo: “Cứ đi về rồi trở lại đây! Ta có làm gì đâu?”
And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and [then] I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21 Khi trở về, Ê-li-sê bắt đôi bò làm thịt, lấy cày làm củi nấu nướng, và mời mọi người ăn tiệc. Ăn xong, ông đi theo phụ giúp Ê-li.
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
