I Các Vua 18
1 Ba năm sau, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Ê-li: “Hãy đi gặp A-háp và bảo rằng Ta sẽ cho mưa trở lại.”
After many dayes, the worde of the Lord came to Eliiah, in the third yeere, saying, Goe, shewe thy selfe vnto Ahab, and I will sende rayne vpon the earth.
2 Ê-li vâng lời đi gặp A-háp. Lúc ấy, nạn đói đang hoành hành khắp xứ Sa-ma-ri.
And Eliiah went to shew himselfe vnto Ahab, and there was a great famine in Samaria.
3 Ngày nọ, A-háp gọi viên quản đốc hoàng cung là Áp Đia đến. (Áp Đia là người hết lòng kính sợ Chúa.
And Ahab called Obadiah the gouernour of his house: (and Obadiah feared God greatly:
4 Khi Giê-sa-bên giết các tiên tri của Chúa, Áp Đia đem 100 tiên tri giấu trong hai hang đá, mỗi hang năm mươi người, và đem bánh và nước nuôi họ.)
For when Iezebel destroyed the Prophets of the Lord, Obadiah tooke an hundreth Prophets, and hid them, by fiftie in a caue, and he fed them with bread and water.)
5 Vua A-háp bảo Áp Đia: “Chúng ta chia nhau đi khắp nơi, đến các suối, các khe, tìm xem nơi nào có cỏ, may ra có thể cứu được một số ngựa và la khỏi chết.”
And Ahab saide vnto Obadiah, Goe into the land, vnto all the fountaines of water, and vnto all the riuers, if so be that we may finde grasse to saue the horses and the mules aliue, lest we depriue the lande of the beastes.
6 Vậy, họ lên đường; mỗi người đi một hướng.
And so they deuided the lande betweene them to walke thorowe it. Ahab went one way by him selfe, and Obadiah went another way by him selfe.
7 Trên đường, Áp Đia gặp Ê-li. Khi nhận ra Ê-li, ông sấp mình dưới đất và hỏi: “Có đúng ông là Ê-li không?”
And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Eliiah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art not thou my lord Eliiah?
8 Ê-li đáp: “Vâng, ta là Ê-li. Ngươi hãy đi báo với Vua A-háp là ta đang ở đây.”
And he answered him, Yea, goe tell thy lord, Behold, Eliiah is here.
9 Áp Đia thắc mắc: “Tôi có tội gì mà ông cho A-háp giết tôi?
And he said, What haue I sinned, that thou wouldest deliuer thy seruant into the hande of Ahab, to slay me?
10 Tôi thề trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tôi, rằng A-háp đã sai người đi lùng ông khắp nơi. Khi dân một địa phương nào nói: ‘Ê-li không có ở đây,’ Vua A-háp buộc họ phải thề rằng khắp địa phương ấy không ai gặp ông.
As the Lord thy God liueth, there is no nation or kingdome, whither my lorde hath not sent to seeke thee: and when they sayd, He is not here, he tooke an othe of the kingdome and nation, if they had not found thee.
11 Bây giờ, ông bảo tôi đi báo với A-háp rằng ông đang ở đây.
And now thou sayest, Goe, tell thy lorde, Beholde, Eliiah is here.
12 Nếu tôi bỏ đây ra đi, và Thần Linh của Chúa Hằng Hữu đem ông đi nơi nào chẳng biết. Khi A-háp đến đây không tìm thấy ông, vua sẽ giết tôi, mặc dù tôi vẫn một lòng tôn kính Chúa ngay từ thời thơ ấu.
And when I am gone from thee, the Spirit of the Lord shall cary thee into some place that I doe not know: so when I come and tell Ahab, if he cannot finde thee, then wil he kill me: But I thy seruant feare the Lord from my youth.
13 Ông không biết việc tôi làm khi Giê-sa-bên giết các tiên tri của Chúa Hằng Hữu sao? Tôi đã đem 100 vị giấu trong hai hang đá, đem bánh và nước nuôi họ.
Was it not tolde my lord, what I did when Iezebel slew the Prophets of the Lord, how I hid an hundreth men of the Lordes Prophets by fifties in a caue, and fed them with bread and water?
14 Thế mà, bây giờ ông bảo tôi đi nói với A-háp rằng: ‘Ê-li ở đây.’ Nếu tôi làm vậy, thế nào tôi cũng bị giết.”
And now thou sayest, Go, tel thy lord, Behold, Eliiah is here, that he may slay me.
15 Ê-li đáp: “Trước Chúa Hằng Hữu Toàn Năng, ta thề với ông rằng ta sẽ gặp A-háp hôm nay.”
And Eliiah said, As the Lord of hostes liueth, before whome I stand, I will surely shewe my selfe vnto him this day.
16 Vậy, Áp Đia đi báo cho A-háp, và A-háp đến gặp Ê-li.
So Obadiah went to meete Ahab, and tolde him: And Ahab went to meete Eliiah.
17 Khi thấy Ê-li, A-háp hỏi: “Có phải đây là người gây rối loạn cho Ít-ra-ên không?”
And when Ahab saw Eliiah, Ahab said vnto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
18 Ê-li đáp: “Không phải tôi là người gây rối loạn Ít-ra-ên, nhưng chính vua và nhà cha vua, vì đã chối bỏ điều răn của Chúa, theo thờ thần Ba-anh.
And he answered, I haue not troubled Israel, but thou, and thy fathers house, in that ye haue forsaken the commandements of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.
19 Bây giờ, tôi yêu cầu vua triệu tập toàn dân Ít-ra-ên tại Núi Cát-mên, cùng với 450 tiên tri của Ba-anh và 400 tiên tri của A-sê-ra là những người ăn chung bàn với Giê-sa-bên.”
Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel vnto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal foure hundreth and fiftie, and the prophets of the groues foure hundreth, which eate at Iezebels table.
20 Vậy, A-háp triệu tập toàn dân và các tiên tri tại Núi Cát-mên.
So Ahab sent vnto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together vnto mount Carmel.
21 Ê-li đến, trách cứ toàn dân: “Anh chị em còn phân vân giữa ngã ba đường cho đến bao giờ? Nếu Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời, hãy theo Ngài! Nếu Ba-anh là Đức Chúa Trời, hãy theo hắn!” Nhưng dân chúng không nói gì cả.
And Eliiah came vnto all the people, and said, How long halt ye betweene two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal be he, then goe after him. And the people answered him not a worde.
22 Ê-li tiếp: “Trong số những nhà tiên tri của Chúa Hằng Hữu, chỉ có một mình tôi là tiên tri còn lại, nhưng tiên tri của Ba-anh có đến 450 người.
Then said Eliiah vnto the people, I onely remayne a Prophet of the Lord: but Baals prophets are foure hundreth and fiftie men.
23 Hãy đem đến đây hai con bò để các tiên tri Ba-anh chọn lấy một con, chặt ra từng miếng, chất trên củi, nhưng không được châm lửa. Tôi sẽ làm thịt con kia, chất trên củi và cũng không châm lửa.
Let them therefore giue vs two bullockes, and let them chuse the one, and cut him in pieces, and lay him on the wood, but put no fire vnder, and I will prepare the other bullocke, and lay him on the wood, and will put no fire vnder.
24 Họ sẽ cầu thần của họ; còn tôi sẽ cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu. Thần nào trả lời bằng lửa làm cho sinh tế bốc cháy là Đức Chúa Trời.” Toàn dân đều cho lời Ê-li nói là hợp lý.
Then call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and then the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered, and sayde, It is well spoken.
25 Ê-li bảo các tiên tri của Ba-anh: “Các ông chọn lấy một con bò, làm thịt trước đi vì bên các ông đông. Nhớ cầu thần mình nhưng đừng châm lửa vào củi.”
And Eliiah said vnto the prophets of Baal, Chuse you a bullocke, and prepare him first, (for ye are many) and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire vnder.
26 Họ làm thịt con bò, và từ sáng đến trưa, họ khấn vái Ba-anh: “Lạy Ba-anh, xin đáp lời chúng tôi!” Nhưng chẳng có tiếng đáp. Họ bắt đầu nhảy chung quanh bàn thờ mới dựng.
So they tooke the one bullocke, that was giuen them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal, from morning to noone, saying, O Baal, heare vs: but there was no voyce, nor any to answere: and they leapt vpon the altar that was made.
27 Đến trưa, Ê-li chế giễu họ: “Chắc các ông phải la lớn hơn. Ba-anh là thần mà! Có lẽ Ba-anh đang suy niệm, hoặc bận việc, hoặc đi đường xa, có khi đang ngủ, các ông phải đánh thức dậy chứ!”
And at noone Eliiah mocked them, and said, Crye loude: for he is a god: either he talketh or pursueth his enemies, or is in his iourney, or it may be that he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 Họ kêu thật lớn và lấy gươm giáo rạch mình cho đến khi máu đổ ra như họ thường làm.
And they cryed loude, and cut them selues as their maner was, with kniues and launcers, till the blood gushed out vpon them.
29 Họ nói lảm nhảm suốt buổi trưa cho đến giờ dâng sinh tế buổi chiều. Dù vậy, chẳng có tiếng nói, không ai trả lời, tuyệt nhiên không một thần nào lưu ý.
And when midday was passed, and they had prophecied vntil the offring of the euening sacrifice, there was neither voyce, nor one to answere, nor any that regarded.
30 Lúc ấy, Ê-li nói với toàn dân: “Hãy lại gần ta!” Họ đến gần ông. Ê-li sửa lại bàn thờ của Chúa Hằng Hữu đã bị phá hủy.
And Eliiah said vnto all the people, Come to me. And all the people came to him. And he repayred the altar of the Lord that was broken downe.
31 Ông lấy mười hai viên đá theo số mười hai đại tộc của các con Gia-cốp người được Chúa đổi tên thành Ít-ra-ên,
And Eliiah tooke twelue stones, according to the nomber of the tribes of the sonnes of Iaakob, (vnto whome the worde of the Lord came, saying, Israel shalbe thy name)
32 xây dựng một bàn thờ cho Chúa Hằng Hữu. Chung quanh bàn thờ, ông đào một cái mương rộng có thể chứa được mười hai lít hạt giống.
And with the stones he buylt an altar in the Name of the Lord: and he made a ditch round about the altar, as great as woulde conteine two measures of seede.
33 Ông chất củi lên bàn thờ, chặt con bò ra từng miếng, đem sắp trên củi. Rồi ông nói: “Múc đầy bốn bình nước, đem tưới lên sinh lễ và củi.”
And he put the wood in order, and hewed the bullocke in pieces, and layd him on the wood,
34 Khi người ta làm xong, ông bảo họ làm như thế lần thứ hai. Ông lại bảo làm lần thứ ba. Họ vâng lời,
And said, Fill foure barrels with water, and powre it on the burnt offring and on the wood. Againe he said, Doe so againe. And they did so the second time. And he sayde, Doe it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 nước từ bàn thờ chảy ra ngập cả mương.
And the water ran round about the altar: and he filled the ditch with water also.
36 Đến giờ dâng sinh tế buổi chiều, Tiên tri Ê-li đến bên bàn thờ và cầu nguyện: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Áp-ra-ham, Y-sác, và Gia-cốp, hôm nay xin chứng minh cho mọi người biết Chúa là Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, cho họ biết con là đầy tớ Ngài, và con làm những việc này theo lệnh Chúa.
And when they should offer the euening sacrifice, Eliiah the Prophet came, and sayd, Lord God of Abraham, Izhak and of Israel, let it be knowen this day, that thou art the God of Israel, and that I am thy seruant, and that I haue done all these things at thy commandement.
37 Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, xin đáp lời con. Ngài đáp lời con để dân này biết Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời, và Chúa dẫn họ trở về với Ngài.”
Heare me, O Lord, heare me, and let this people know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart againe at the last.
38 Lập tức, Chúa Hằng Hữu cho lửa xuống thiêu đốt cá sinh tế, củi, đá, bụi, và đốt cạn nước trong mương.
Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt offring, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked vp the water that was in the ditche.
39 Dân chúng thấy thế, đồng loạt quỳ rạp xuống đất, và tung hô: “Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời! Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời!”
And when all the people sawe it, they fell on their faces, and saide, The Lord is God, the Lord is God.
40 Ê-li ra lệnh: “Bắt hết các tiên tri Ba-anh, đừng để ai trốn thoát!” Dân chúng vâng lời và bắt họ. Ê-li đem họ xuống Trũng Ki-sôn và giết tất cả.
And Elijah said vnto them, Take the prophets of Baal, let not a man of them escape. and they tooke them, and Eliiah brought them to the brooke Kishon, and slewe them there.
41 Ê-li nói với A-háp: “Vua lo ăn và uống đi, vì tôi nghe có tiếng mưa lớn!”
And Eliiah sayde vnto Ahab, Get thee vp, eate and drinke, for there is a sound of much rayne.
42 Vậy, A-háp đi ăn và uống. Còn Ê-li lên đỉnh Núi Cát-mên, gập mình xuống đất, và cúi mặt giữa hai đầu gối.
So Ahab went vp to eate and to drinke, and Eliiah went vp to the top of Carmel: and he crouched vnto the earth, and put his face betweene his knees,
43 Ông bảo người đầy tớ: “Đi nhìn về hướng biển xem.” Người ấy vâng lời, đi nhìn rồi thưa: “Con chẳng thấy gì cả.” Ông bảo: “Cứ tiếp tục đi bảy lần như thế.”
And sayde to his seruant, Goe vp now and looke towarde the way of the Sea. And he went vp, and looked, and sayde, There is nothing. Againe he sayd, Goe againe seuen times.
44 Lần thứ bảy người đầy tớ nói: “Có một cụm mây nhỏ bằng bàn tay hiện ra từ biển lên.” Ê-li nói: “Đi bảo A-háp lên xe chạy xuống núi ngay, nếu không sẽ bị mưa cầm chân!”
And at the seuenth time he sayd, Behold, there ariseth a litle cloude out of the sea like a mans hand. Then he sayd, Vp, and say vnto Ahab, Make readie thy charet, and get thee downe, that the raine stay thee not.
45 Trong khoảnh khắc, bầu trời bị mây đen phủ kín. Gió kéo mưa lớn đến; và A-háp vội vàng lên xe về Gít-rê-ên.
And in the meane while the heauen was blacke with cloudes and winde, and there was a great rayne. Then Ahab went vp and came to Izreel.
46 Lúc đó quyền năng Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng trên Ê-li, người quấn áo ở thắt lưng và chạy trước xe A-háp cho đến thành Gít-rê-ên.
And the hand of the Lord was on Eliiah, and he girded vp his Ioynes, and ran before Ahab till he came to Izreel.
