1 Lúc ấy, A-bi-gia, con Giê-rô-bô-am, bị bệnh nặng,
At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became very sick.
2 Giê-rô-bô-am nói với vợ: “Bà cải trang để không ai biết là vợ tôi, rồi đi Si-lô gặp Tiên tri A-hi-gia—người báo trước việc tôi làm vua.
Jeroboam said to his wife, “Please arise and disguise yourself, so you will not be recognized as my wife, and go to Shiloh, because Ahijah the prophet is there; he is the one who spoke about me, saying that I would become king over these people.
3 Nhớ mang theo mười ổ bánh, vài bánh ngọt, và một hũ mật ong. Khi gặp tiên tri, ông sẽ cho biết con ta có khỏi không.”
Take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to Ahijah. He will tell you what will happen to the child.”
4 Vợ Giê-rô-bô-am vâng lời và đi đến nhà A-hi-gia tại Si-lô. Lúc ấy, A-hi-gia đã già lắm, đôi mắt mù lòa.
Jeroboam's wife did so; she left and went to Shiloh and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; he lost his sight because of old age.
5 Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo A-hi-gia: “Vợ của Giê-rô-bô-am đến kia, bà ấy cải trang thành một người khác. Bà muốn hỏi thăm về tình trạng đứa con đang ốm. Hãy nói với bà những điều Ta đã dặn con.”
Yahweh said to Ahijah, “Look, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek advice from you regarding her son, for he is sick. Say such and such to her, because when she comes, she will act as if she were some other woman.”
6 Nghe tiếng chân bước qua cửa, A-hi-gia nói vọng ra: “Vợ Giê-rô-bô-am đó à, mời bà vào. Tại sao bà phải giả dạng? Đây, tôi có một tin chẳng lành cho bà.
When Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be someone you are not? I have been sent to you with bad news.
7 Bà về nói với Giê-rô-bô-am lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán như sau: ‘Từ một thường dân, ngươi được Ta cất nhắc làm vua Ít-ra-ên.
Go, tell Jeroboam that Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, 'I raised you from among the people to make you the leader over my people Israel.
8 Ta đã tước quyền trị nước khỏi tay nhà Đa-vít và đem giao cho ngươi. Tuy nhiên, ngươi không được như Đa-vít, đầy tớ Ta, người đã tuân lệnh Ta, theo Ta hết lòng, làm điều công chính trước mặt Ta.
I tore the kingdom away from the family of David and gave it to you, yet you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart, to do only what was right in my eyes.
9 Thêm vào đó, ngươi lại làm điều ác hơn cả những người sống trước ngươi. Ngươi tạo cho mình thần khác, đúc tượng để thờ, chọc giận Ta, và chối bỏ Ta.
Instead, you have done evil, more than all who were before you. You have made other gods, and you have cast metal images to provoke me to anger, and have thrust me behind your back.
10 Vì thế, Ta sẽ giáng tai họa trên nhà ngươi, giết hết đàn ông trong nhà, kể cả nô lệ. Ta sẽ đốt nhà Giê-rô-bô-am như người ta đốt rác rưởi, cho đến khi tuyệt diệt.
Therefore, look, I will bring disaster on your family; I will cut off from you every male child in Israel, whether slave or free, and will completely remove your family, like someone who burns up dung until it is gone.
11 Trong số người nhà Giê-rô-bô-am, ai chết trong thành sẽ bị chó ăn, ai chết ngoài đồng bị chim ăn. Đó là lời Chúa Hằng Hữu.’”
Anyone who belongs to your family who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the heavens, for I, Yahweh, have said it.'
12 Rồi A-hi-gia nói với vợ Giê-rô-bô-am: “Bây giờ, bà hãy về nhà đi. Khi bà bước vào thành, con bà sẽ chết.
So arise, wife of Jeroboam, and go back to your home; when your feet enter the city, the child Abijah will die.
13 Ít-ra-ên sẽ than khóc và chôn cất nó. Nó là người duy nhất trong nhà Giê-rô-bô-am được mồ êm mả đẹp, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu thấy nó có được vài điều Ngài vừa ý.
All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. He is the only one from Jeroboam's family who will go into a grave, because only in him, out of Jeroboam's house, was anything good found in the sight of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
14 Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ cất nhắc một người lên làm vua Ít-ra-ên, người này sẽ tiêu diệt nhà Giê-rô-bô-am.
Also, Yahweh will raise up a king of Israel who will cut off the family of Jeroboam on that day. Today is that day, right now.
15 Từ nay, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ đày đọa Ít-ra-ên như cây sậy bị sóng vỗ dập dồi, bị nhổ gốc khỏi đất lành Ngài đã cho tổ tiên họ, bị rải tản mác bên kia sông Ơ-phơ-rát, vì họ đi thờ thần tượng và chọc giận Chúa Hằng Hữu.
For Yahweh will attack Israel as a reed is shaken in the water, and he will root up Israel out of this good land that he gave to their ancestors. He will scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they have made their Asherah poles and provoked Yahweh to anger.
16 Ngài sẽ từ bỏ Ít-ra-ên, vì Giê-rô-bô-am phạm tội và lôi kéo Ít-ra-ên cùng phạm tội.”
He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, the sins that he has committed, and through which he has led Israel to sin.”
17 Vậy, vợ Giê-rô-bô-am trở về Tia-xa. Khi bà bước qua ngưỡng cửa nhà thì con bà chết.
So Jeroboam's wife arose and left, and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of her house, the child died.
18 Người Ít-ra-ên chôn cất và khóc thương nó, đúng như lời Chúa Hằng Hữu dùng Tiên tri A-hi-gia, đầy tớ Ngài, báo trước.
All Israel buried him and mourned for him, just as it was told to them by the word of Yahweh which he had spoken by his servant Ahijah the prophet.
19 Mọi công việc khác của Giê-rô-bô-am—các cuộc chiến tranh và công cuộc trị dân—đều được chép trong Sách Lịch Sử Các Vua Ít-ra-ên.
As for the other matters concerning Jeroboam, how he waged war and how he reigned, see, they are written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel.
20 Giê-rô-bô-am cai trị Ít-ra-ên được hai mươi hai năm. Giê-rô-bô-am qua đời, con trai ông là Na-đáp lên ngôi kế vị.
Jeroboam reigned twenty-two years and then slept with his ancestors, and Nadab his son became king in his place.
21 Trong khi ấy, Rô-bô-am, con Sa-lô-môn, làm vua Giu-đa. Rô-bô-am bốn mươi mốt tuổi lúc lên ngôi và cai trị mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành được Chúa Hằng Hữu chọn trong khắp nước Ít-ra-ên làm nơi Ngài ngự. Mẹ Rô-bô-am là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn.
Now Rehoboam son of Solomon was reigning in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his name. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonite woman.
22 Người Giu-đa làm điều ác trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, chọc giận Ngài còn hơn tổ tiên họ đã làm trước kia.
Judah did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh; they provoked him to jealousy with the sins that they committed, more than everything that their fathers had done.
23 Họ cất miếu thờ trên đồi cao, lập trụ thờ, dựng tượng A-sê-ra trên các ngọn đồi và dưới các tàng cây xanh.
For they also built for themselves high places, stone pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
24 Trong xứ còn có cả nạn tình dục đồng giới. Họ làm những điều bỉ ổi chẳng khác gì thổ dân trước kia đã bị Chúa Hằng Hữu đuổi đi để người Ít-ra-ên chiếm xứ.
There were also cultic prostitutes in the land. They did the same despicable practices as the nations that Yahweh had driven out before the people of Israel.
25 Vào năm thứ năm đời Vua Rô-bô-am; Si-sắc, vua Ai Cập, tấn công Giê-ru-sa-lem.
It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem.
26 Ông vơ vét kho tàng của Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu và của cung vua đem về Ai Cập, kể cả các khiên vàng Sa-lô-môn đã làm.
He took away the treasures in the house of Yahweh, and the treasures in the king's house. He took everything away; he also took all the shields of gold that Solomon had made.
27 Vua Rô-bô-am làm những khiên đồng để thay thế, rồi giao khiên cho các quan chỉ huy đội ngự lâm canh gác cung vua.
King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place and entrusted them into the hands of the commanders of the guard, who guarded the doors to the king's house.
28 Mỗi khi vua lên Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, lính cận vệ mang khiên vào, sau đó, đem trả khiên về đồn gác.
It happened that whenever the king entered the house of Yahweh, the guards would carry them; then they would bring them back into the guardhouse.
29 Tất cả các công việc khác của Rô-bô-am đều được chép trong Sách Lịch Sử Các Vua Giu-đa.
As for the other matters concerning Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Judah?

There was constant warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.
31 Rô-bô-am an nghỉ với tổ tiên, được chôn trong Thành Đa-vít. Mẹ vua là Na-a-ma, người Am-môn. A-bi-giam, con trai vua, lên ngôi kế vị.
So Rehoboam slept with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonite woman. Abijah his son became king in his place.
