I Các Vua 11

1 Ngoài con gái Pha-ra-ôn, Sa-lô-môn còn thương yêu nhiều cô gái ngoại quốc từ Mô-áp, Am-môn, Ê-đôm, Si-đôn, và Hê-tít.

Now a number of strange women were loved by Solomon, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:

2 Chúa Hằng Hữu đã nghiêm cấm người Ít-ra-ên không được kết thông gia với người các nước ấy, vì họ sẽ quyến rũ Ít-ra-ên thờ thần của họ. Tuy nhiên, Sa-lô-môn vẫn say mê các mỹ nữ này.

The nations of which the Lord had said to the children of Israel, You are not to take wives from them and they are not to take wives from you; or they will certainly make you go after their gods: to these Solomon was united in love.

3 Vua có 700 hoàng hậu và 300 cung phi. Các vợ của vua đã khiến lòng vua rời xa Chúa Hằng Hữu.

He had seven hundred wives, daughters of kings, and three hundred other wives; and through his wives his heart was turned away.

4 Các bà quyến rũ vua thờ thần của họ, nhất là lúc Sa-lô-môn về già. Lòng vua không trung thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của vua, như Đa-vít, cha vua, trước kia.

For it came about that when Solomon was old, his heart was turned away to other gods by his wives; and his heart was no longer true to the Lord his God as the heart of his father David had been.

5 Sa-lô-môn thờ nữ thần Át-tạt-tê của người Si-đôn và thần Minh-côm, một thần đáng ghê tởm của người Am-môn.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Milcom, the disgusting god of the Ammonites.

6 Như thế, Sa-lô-môn đã làm điều ác trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, không hết lòng theo Chúa Hằng Hữu như Đa-vít, cha vua.

And Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord, not walking in the Lord's ways with all his heart as David his father did.

7 Sa-lô-môn còn cất miếu thờ Kê-mốt, thần đáng ghê tởm của người Mô-áp và một cái miếu nữa để thờ thần Mô-lóc đáng ghê tởm của người Am-môn trên ngọn đồi phía đông Giê-ru-sa-lem.

Then Solomon put up a high place for Chemosh, the disgusting god of Moab, in the mountain before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the disgusting god worshipped by the children of Ammon.

8 Như thế, Sa-lô-môn đã tiếp tay với các bà vợ ngoại quốc, để họ đốt hương dâng sinh tế cho thần của họ.

And so he did for all his strange wives, who made offerings with burning of perfumes to their gods.

9 Chúa Hằng Hữu rất giận Sa-lô-môn, vì lòng vua chối bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, mặc dù đã hai lần Ngài hiện ra cho vua thấy,

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had twice come to him in a vision;

10 bảo vua không được thờ thần khác, nhưng vua vẫn không vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu.

And had given him orders about this very thing, that he was not to go after other gods; but he did not keep the orders of the Lord.

11 Vì thế Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: “Vì con đã hành động như thế, không giữ lời ước, không tuân hành luật Ta, Ta sẽ tước quyền trị nước khỏi tay con, đem giao cho đầy tớ con.

So the Lord said to Solomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept my agreement and my laws, which I gave you, I will take the kingdom away from you by force and will give it to your servant.

12 Tuy nhiên, vì Đa-vít cha con, Ta sẽ không làm việc này trong đời con, nhưng Ta sẽ tước quyền khỏi tay con của con.

I will not do it in your life-time, because of your father David, but I will take it from your son.

13 Dù vậy, Ta vẫn không tước đoạt hết, và Ta sẽ để lại một đại tộc cho con của con, vì Đa-vít, đầy tớ Ta, và vì Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành Ta đã chọn.”

Still I will not take all the kingdom from him; but I will give one tribe to your son, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town of my selection.

14 Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến Ha-đát, một người thuộc hoàng gia Ê-đôm, trở thành đối thủ của Sa-lô-môn.

So the Lord sent Hadad the Edomite to make trouble for Solomon: he was of the king's seed in Edom.

15 Vào thời Đa-vít chinh phục Ê-đôm, trong dịp Tướng Giô-áp đi lo việc chôn cất những người bị giết,

And when David had sent destruction on Edom, and Joab, the captain of the army, had gone to put the dead into the earth, and had put to death every male in Edom;

16 Giô-áp đã đóng quân tại Ê-đôm sáu tháng và giết sạch đàn ông trong nước này.

(For Joab and all Israel were there six months till every male in Edom had been cut off; )

17 Lúc đó Ha-đát còn nhỏ, cùng với mấy người đầy tớ cha mình sống sót, chạy trốn qua Ai Cập.

Hadad, being still a young boy, went in flight to Egypt, with certain Edomites, servants of his father;

18 Họ chạy từ Ma-đi-an đến Pha-ran; tại đó, có một số người theo. Đến Ai Cập, Pha-ra-ôn cho họ nhà cửa, thực phẩm, và đất đai.

And they went on from Midian and came to Paran; and, taking men from Paran with them, they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who gave him a house and gave orders for his food and gave him land.

19 Ha-đát chiếm được cảm tình của Pha-ra-ôn, nên Pha-ra-ôn gả em vợ mình cho ông, tức em Hoàng hậu Tác-bê-ne.

Now Hadad was very pleasing to Pharaoh, so that he gave him the sister of his wife, Tahpenes the queen, for his wife.

20 Vợ ông sinh con trai, tên Giê-nu-bát. Cậu này được Hoàng hậu Tác-bê-ne nuôi dưỡng trong cung cùng với các hoàng tử, con của Pha-ra-ôn.

And the sister of Tahpenes had a son by him, Genubath, whom Tahpenes took care of in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was living in Pharaoh's house among Pharaoh's sons.

21 Khi đang ở Ai Cập, Ha-đát nghe tin Đa-vít và Giô-áp đã qua đời, liền xin Pha-ra-ôn cho phép về nước.

Now when Hadad had news in Egypt that David had been put to rest with his fathers, and that Joab, the captain of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, Send me back to my country.

22 Pha-ra-ôn hỏi: “Ở đây có gì thiếu thốn đâu mà ngươi muốn trở về nước?” Ông đáp: “Không thiếu gì, nhưng xin cứ cho tôi đi.”

But Pharaoh said to him, What have you been short of while you have been with me, that you are desiring to go back to your country? And he said, Nothing; but even so, send me back.

23 Đức Chúa Trời cũng bắt Sa-lô-môn đương đầu với một đối thủ thứ hai là Rê-xôn, con Ê-li-a-đa. Khi Đa-vít đánh giết người Xô-ba, Rê-xôn bỏ chủ là Ha-đa-đê-xe, vua Xô-ba và chạy trốn.

And God sent another trouble-maker, Rezon, the son of Eliada, who had gone in flight from his lord, Hadadezer, king of Zobah:

24 Rê-xôn chiêu tập thuộc hạ, cầm đầu đảng cướp, kéo sang Đa-mách và trở thành vua Đa-mách.

He got some men together and made himself captain of a band of outlaws; and went to Damascus and became king there.

25 Suốt đời Sa-lô-môn, Rê-xôn chống lại Ít-ra-ên, gây bao thảm họa chẳng kém gì Ha-đát. Khi đã làm vua A-ram, Rê-xôn lại càng ghét Ít-ra-ên cách cay đắng.

He was a trouble to Israel all through the days of Solomon. And this is the damage Hadad did: he was cruel to Israel while he was ruler over Edom.

26 Ngoài ra cũng có một người Ít-ra-ên đã từng phục vụ Sa-lô-môn nổi lên chống vua. Đó là Giê-rô-bô-am, con của Nê-bát, người ở Xê-rê-đa, thuộc đất Ép-ra-im. Mẹ ông là một góa phụ tên Xê-ru-a.

And there was Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was Zeruah, a widow; and his hand was lifted up against the king.

27 Đây là lý do khiến Giê-rô-bô-am làm phản: Sa-lô-môn xây dựng các công sự phòng thủ và tu bổ thành Đa-vít mà cha vua đã xây.

The way in which his hand came to be lifted up against the king was this: Solomon was building the Millo and making good the damaged parts of the town of his father David;

28 Khi thấy Giê-rô-bô-am là một người trẻ tuổi, vừa có khả năng, vừa làm việc cần mẫn, vua giao cho ông trông coi đoàn nhân công của đại tộc Giô-sép.

And Jeroboam was an able and responsible man; and Solomon saw that he was a good worker and made him overseer of all the work given to the sons of Joseph.

29 Một hôm Giê-rô-bô-am từ trong thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đi ra, giữa đường gặp Tiên tri A-hi-gia, người Si-lô. A-hi-gia đang mặc một cái áo mới—lúc ấy chỉ có hai người ở ngoài đồng.

Now at that time, when Jeroboam was going out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite came across him on the road; now Ahijah had put on a new robe; and the two of them were by themselves in the open country.

30 A-hi-gia nắm chiếc áo mới đang mặc, xé ra làm mười hai mảnh.

And Ahijah took his new robe in his hands, parting it violently into twelve.

31 Rồi người bảo Giê-rô-bô-am: “Ông lấy mười mảnh, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên có phán: ‘Ta sẽ xé nước trong tay Sa-lô-môn, cho ngươi mười đại tộc,

And he said to Jeroboam, Take ten of the parts, for this is what the Lord has said: See, I will take the kingdom away from Solomon by force, and will give ten tribes to you;

32 nhưng Ta sẽ để lại cho con của Sa-lô-môn một đại tộc, vì Đa-vít, đầy tớ Ta, và Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành Ta chọn trong khắp Ít-ra-ên,

(But one tribe will be his, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town which, out of all the tribes of Israel, I have made mine, )

33 vì Sa-lô-môn đã chối bỏ Ta, đi thờ nữ thần Át-tạt-tê của người Si-đôn, thần Kê-mốt của người Mô-áp, và thần Minh-côm của người Am-môn. Nó không theo đường lối Ta, không làm điều phải trước mặt Ta, và không tuân giữ luật lệ và quy tắc Ta như Đa-vít, cha nó, trước kia.

Because they are turned away from me to the worship of Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Chemosh, the god of Moab, and Milcom, the god of the Ammonites; they have not been walking in my ways or doing what is right in my eyes or keeping my laws and my decisions as his father David did.

34 Dù thế, Ta cho nó cứ làm vua suốt đời, vì Đa-vít, đầy tớ Ta đã chọn, là người đã tuân theo mọi điều răn và luật lệ Ta. Ta sẽ không tước quyền khỏi tay nó ngay bây giờ

But I will not take the kingdom from him; I will let him be king all the days of his life, because of David my servant, in whom I took delight because he kept my orders and my laws.

35 nhưng đợi đến đời con nó, và Ta sẽ cho ngươi mười đại tộc.

But I will take the kingdom from his son, and give it to you.

36 Ta chỉ cho con của Sa-lô-môn được giữ lại một đại tộc, để Đa-vít có người nối ngôi mãi mãi trước mặt Ta tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, thành Ta chọn để mang tên Ta.

And one tribe I will give to his son, so that David my servant may have a light for ever burning before me in Jerusalem, the town which I have made mine to put my name there.

37 Ta sẽ cho ngươi làm vua Ít-ra-ên, ngươi sẽ cai trị như lòng mình mong muốn.

And you I will take, and you will be king over Israel, ruling over whatever is the desire of your soul.

38 Nếu ngươi nghe lệnh Ta, đi theo lối Ta, làm điều phải trước mắt Ta, giữ điều răn, luật lệ Ta như đầy tớ Đa-vít Ta trước kia, Ta sẽ ở cùng ngươi, lập triều đại ngươi vững chắc như triều đại Đa-vít, vì Ta cho ngươi nước Ít-ra-ên.

And if you give attention to the orders I give you, walking in my ways and doing what is right in my eyes and keeping my laws and my orders as David my servant did; then I will be with you, building up for you a safe house, as I did for David, and I will give Israel to you.

39 Vì tội của Sa-lô-môn, Ta hình phạt con cháu Đa-vít, nhưng hình phạt này không kéo dài mãi.’”

(So that I may send trouble for this on the seed of David, but not for ever.)

40 Sa-lô-môn định giết Giê-rô-bô-am, nhưng ông chạy trốn sang Ai Cập, ở với Vua Si-sắc cho đến ngày Sa-lô-môn qua đời.

And Solomon was looking for a chance to put Jeroboam to death; but he went in flight to Egypt, to Shishak, king of Egypt, and was in Egypt till the death of Solomon.

41 Các công việc khác của Sa-lô-môn và những lời khôn ngoan của vua đều được chép trong sách Công Việc của Sa-lô-môn.

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all he did, and his wisdom, are they not recorded in the book of the acts of Solomon?

42 Sa-lô-môn cai trị Ít-ra-ên bốn mươi năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem

And the time Solomon was king in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

43 và an nghỉ cùng tổ tiên, được chôn trong Thành Đa-vít là thành của cha mình. Con trai người là Rô-bô-am lên ngôi kế vị.

And Solomon went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in the town of David his father: and Solomon went to rest with his fathers and Rehoboam his son became king in his place.
