अम्सा 5
1 ऐ मेरे बेटे! मेरी हिकमत पर तवज्जुह कर, मेरे समझ पर कान लगा;
My son, attend unto my wisdom; incline thine ear to my understanding;
2 ताकि तू तमीज़ को महफ़ूज़ रख्खें, और तेरे लब 'इल्म के निगहबान हों:
That thou mayest preserve discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 क्यूँकि बेगाना 'औरत के होटों से शहद टपकता है, और उसका मुँह तेल से ज़्यादा चिकना है;
For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 लेकिन उसका अन्जाम अज़दहे की तरह तल्ख़, और दो धारी तलवार की तरह तेज़ है।
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on the nether-world; (Sheol h7585)
6 इसलिए उसे ज़िन्दगी का हमवार रास्ता नहीं मिलता; उसकी राहें बेठिकाना हैं, पर वह बेख़बर है।
Lest she should walk the even path of life, her ways wander, but she knoweth it not.
7 इसलिए ऐ मेरे बेटो, मेरी सुनो, और मेरे मुँह की बातों से नाफ़रमान न हो।
Now therefore, O ye children, hearken unto me, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 उस 'औरत से अपनी राह दूर रख, और उसके घर के दरवाज़े के पास भी न जा;
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house;
9 ऐसा न हो कि तू अपनी आबरू किसी गै़र के, और अपनी उम्र बेरहम के हवाले करे।
Lest thou give thy vigour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel;
10 ऐसा न हो कि बेगाने तेरी कु़व्वत से सेर हों, और तेरी कमाई किसी गै़र के घर जाए;
Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours be in the house of an alien;
11 और जब तेरा गोश्त और तेरा जिस्म घुल जाये तो तू अपने अन्जाम पर नोहा करे;
And thou moan, when thine end cometh, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 और कहे, “मैंने तरबियत से कैसी 'अदावत रख्खी, और मेरे दिल ने मलामत को हक़ीर जाना।
And say: 'How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 न मैंने अपने उस्तादों का कहा माना, न अपने तरबियत करने वालों की सुनी।
Neither have I hearkened to the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 मैं जमा'अत और मजलिस के बीच, क़रीबन सब बुराइयों में मुब्तिला हुआ।”
I was well nigh in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.'
15 तू पानी अपने ही हौज़ से और बहता पानी अपने ही चश्मे से पीना
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 क्या तेरे चश्मे बाहर बह जाएँ, और पानी की नदियाँ कूचों में?
Let thy springs be dispersed abroad, and courses of water in the streets.
17 वह सिर्फ़ तेरे ही लिए हों, न तेरे साथ गै़रों के लिए भी।
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 तेरा सोता मुबारक हो और तू अपनी जवानी की बीवी के साथ ख़ुश रह।
Let thy fountain be blessed; and have joy of the wife of thy youth.
19 प्यारी हिरनी और दिल फ़रेब गजाला की तरह उसकी छातियाँ तुझे हर वक़्त आसूदह करें और उसकी मुहब्बत तुझे हमेशा फ़रेफ्ता रखे।
A lovely hind and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; with her love be thou ravished always.
20 ऐ मेरे बेटे, तुझे बेगाना 'औरत क्यों फ़रेफ्ता करे और तू ग़ैर 'औरत से क्यों हम आग़ोश हो?
Why then wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of an alien?
21 क्यूँकि इंसान की राहें ख़ुदावन्द कीआँखों के सामने हैं और वही सब रास्तों को हमवार बनाता है।
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He maketh even all his paths.
22 शरीर को उसी की बदकारी पकड़ेगी, और वह अपने ही गुनाह की रस्सियों से जकड़ा जाएगा।
His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.
23 वह तरबियत न पाने की वजह से मर जायेगा और अपनी सख़्त बेवक़ूफ़ी की वजह से गुमराह हो जायेगा।
He shall die for lack of instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall reel.
