अम्सा 19
1 रास्तरौ ग़रीब, कजगो और बेवक़ूफ़ से बेहतर है।
Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse.
2 ये भी अच्छा नहीं कि रूह 'इल्म से खाली रहे? जो चलने में जल्द बाज़ी करता है, भटक जाता है।
Even zeal is no good without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps misses the mark.
3 आदमी की बेवक़ूफ़ी उसे गुमराह करती है, और उसका दिल ख़ुदावन्द से बेज़ार होता है।
A man’s own folly subverts his way, yet his heart rages against the LORD.
4 दौलत बहुत से दोस्त पैदा करती है, लेकिन ग़रीब अपने ही दोस्त से बेगाना है।
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
5 झूटा गवाह बे सज़ा न छूटेगा, और झूट बोलने वाला रिहाई न पाएगा।
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who utters lies will not escape.
6 बहुत से लोग सख़ी की ख़ुशामद करते हैं, और हर एक आदमी इना'म देने वाले का दोस्त है।
Many seek the favor of the prince, and everyone is a friend of the gift giver.
7 जब मिस्कीन के सब भाई ही उससे नफ़रत करते है, तो उसके दोस्त कितने ज़्यादा उससे दूर भागेंगे। वह बातों से उनका पीछा करता है, लेकिन उनको नहीं पाता।
All the brothers of a poor man hate him— how much more do his friends avoid him! He may pursue them with pleading, but they are nowhere to be found.
8 जो हिकमत हासिल करता है अपनी जान को 'अज़ीज़ रखता है; जो समझ की मुहाफ़िज़त करता है फ़ाइदा उठाएगा।
He who acquires wisdom loves himself; one who safeguards understanding will find success.
9 झूटा गवाह बे सज़ा न छूटेगा, और जो झूठ बोलता है फ़ना होगा।
A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will perish.
10 जब बेवक़ूफ़ के लिए नाज़ — ओ — ने'मत ज़ेबा नहीं तो ख़ादिम का शहज़ादों पर हुक्मरान होनाऔर भी मुनासिब नहीं।
Luxury is unseemly for a fool— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!
11 आदमी की तमीज़ उसको क़हर करने में धीमा बनाती है, और ख़ता से दरगुज़र करने में उसकी शान है।
A man’s insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.
12 बादशाह का ग़ज़ब शेर की गरज की तरह है, और उसकी नज़र — ए — 'इनायत घास पर शबनम की तरह।
A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13 बेवक़ूफ़ बेटा अपने बाप के लिए बला है, और बीवी का झगड़ा रगड़ा सदा का टपका।
A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.
14 घर और माल तो बाप दादा से मीरास में मिलते हैं, लेकिन अक़्लमंद बीवी ख़ुदावन्द से मिलती है।
Houses and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 काहिली नींद में गर्क़ कर देती है, और काहिल आदमी भूका रहेगा।
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
16 जो फ़रमान बजा लाता है अपनी जान की मुहाफ़ज़त पर जो अपनी राहों से ग़ाफ़िल है, मरेगा।
He who keeps a commandment preserves his soul, but he who is careless in his ways will die.
17 जो ग़रीबों पर रहम करता है, ख़ुदावन्द को क़र्ज़ देता है, और वह अपनी नेकी का बदला पाएगा।
Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender.
18 जब तक उम्मीद है अपने बेटे की तादीब किए जा और उसकी बर्बादी पर दिल न लगा।
Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.
19 ग़ुस्सावर आदमी सज़ा पाएगा; क्यूँकि अगर तू उसे रिहाई दे तो तुझे बार बार ऐसा ही करना होगा।
A man of great anger must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do so again.
20 मश्वरत को सुन और तरबियत पज़ीर हो, ताकि तू आख़िर कार 'अक़्लमन्द हो जाए।
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
21 आदमी के दिल में बहुत से मन्सूबे हैं, लेकिन सिर्फ़ ख़ुदावन्द का इरादा ही क़ाईम रहेगा।
Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.
22 आदमी की मक़बूलियत उसके एहसान से है, और कंगाल झूठे आदमी से बेहतर है।
The desire of a man is loving devotion; better to be poor than a liar.
23 ख़ुदावन्द का ख़ौफ़ ज़िन्दगी बख़्श है, और ख़ुदा तरस सेर होगा, और बदी से महफ़ूज़ रहेगा।
The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm.
24 सुस्त आदमी अपना हाथ थाली में डालता है, और इतना भी नहीं करता की फिर उसे अपने मुँह तक लाए।
The slacker buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 ठट्ठा करने वाले को मार, इससे सादा दिल होशियार हो जाएगा, और समझदार को तम्बीह कर, वह 'इल्म हासिल करेगा।
Strike a mocker, and the simple will beware; rebuke the discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.
26 जो अपने बाप से बदसुलूकी करता और माँ को निकाल देता है, शर्मिन्दगी का ज़रिया'और रुस्वाई लाने वाला बेटा है।
He who assaults his father or evicts his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
27 ऐ मेरे बेटे, अगर तू 'इल्म से बरगश्ता होता है, तो ता'लीम सुनने से क्या फ़ायदा?
If you cease to hear instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 ख़बीस गवाह 'अद्ल पर हँसता है, और शरीर का मुँह बदी निगलता रहता है।
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and a wicked mouth swallows iniquity.
29 ठठ्ठा करने वालों के लिए सज़ाएँ ठहराई जाती हैं, और बेवक़ूफ़ों की पीठ के लिए कोड़े हैं।
Judgments are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
