1 नर्म जवाब क़हर को दूर कर देता है, लेकिन कड़वी बातें ग़ज़ब अंगेज़ हैं।
A kind reply wards off anger, but hurtful words make people mad.
2 'अक़्लमंदों की ज़बान 'इल्म का दुरुस्त बयान करती है, लेकिन बेवक़ूफ़ का मुँह हिमाक़त उगलता है।
What wise people say makes knowledge attractive, but stupid people talk a lot of nonsense.
3 ख़ुदावन्द की आँखें हर जगह हैं और नेकों और बदों की निगरान हैं।
The Lord sees everywhere, watching the evil and the good.
4 सिहत बख़्श ज़बान ज़िन्दगी का दरख़्त है, लेकिन उसकी कजगोई रूह की शिकस्तगी का ज़रिया है।
Gentle words are a source of life, but telling lies does a lot of damage.
5 बेवक़ूफ़ अपने बाप की तरबियत को हक़ीर जानता है, लेकिन तम्बीह का लिहाज़ रखने वाला होशियार हो जाता है।
Only a foolish son despises his father's instruction, but one who accepts correction is sensible.
6 सादिक़ के घर में बड़ा ख़ज़ाना है, लेकिन शरीर की आमदनी में परेशानी है।
There's plenty of treasure where good people live, but the income of the wicked brings them trouble.
7 'अक़्लमंदों के लब 'इल्म फैलाते हैं, लेकिन बेवक़ूफ़ों के दिल ऐसे नहीं।
Wise people share their knowledge, but stupid people don't think like that.
8 शरीरों के ज़बीहे से ख़ुदावन्द को नफ़रत है, लेकिन रास्तकार की दुआ उसकी ख़ुशनूदी है।
The Lord hates the sacrifices of the wicked, but he loves the prayers of the good.
9 शरीरों का चाल चलन से ख़ुदावन्द को नफ़रत है, लेकिन वह सदाकत के पैरौ से मुहब्बत रखता है।
The Lord hates the ways of the wicked, but he loves those who do what is right.
10 राह से भटकने वाले के लिए सख़्त तादीब है, और तम्बीह से नफ़रत करने वाला मरेगा।
If you leave the right path you will be severely disciplined; anyone who hates correction will die.

12 ठठ्ठाबाज़ तम्बीह को दोस्त नहीं रखता, और 'अक़्लमंदों की मजलिस में हरगिज़ नहीं जाता।
Scoffers don't like to be corrected, so they don't go to the wise for advice.
13 ख़ुश दिली चेहरे की रौनक पैदा करती है, लेकिन दिल की ग़मगीनी से इंसान शिकस्ता ख़ातिर होता है।
If you're happy inside, you'll have a cheerful face, but if you're sad, you look crushed.
14 समझदार का दिल 'इल्म का तालिब है, लेकिन बेवक़ूफ़ों की ख़ुराक बेवक़ूफ़ी है।
An insightful mind looks for knowledge, but stupid people feed on foolishness.
15 मुसीबत ज़दा के तमाम दिन बुरे हैं, लेकिन ख़ुश दिल हमेशा जश्न करता है।
The life of poor people is hard, but if you stay cheerful, it's a continual feast.
16 थोड़ा जो ख़ुदावन्द के ख़ौफ़ के साथ हो, उस बड़े ख़ज़ाने से जो परेशानी के साथ हो, बेहतर है।
It's better to respect the Lord and only have a little than to have plenty of money and the trouble that comes with it.
17 मुहब्बत वाले घर में ज़रा सा सागपात, 'अदावत वाले घर में पले हुए बैल से बेहतर है।
Better a dinner of vegetables where there's love than eating meat with hatred.
18 ग़ज़बनाक आदमी फ़ितना खड़ा करता है, लेकिन जो क़हर में धीमा है झगड़ा मिटाता है।
Short-tempered people stir up trouble, but those slow to anger calm things down.
19 काहिल की राह काँटो की आड़ सी है, लेकिन रास्तकारों का चाल चलन शाहराह की तरह है।
The way of lazy people is overgrown with thorns, but the path of the good is an open highway.
20 'अक़्लमंद बेटा बाप को ख़ुश रखता है, लेकिन बेवक़ूफ़ अपनी माँ की तहक़ीर करता है।
A wise son makes his father happy, but a stupid man despises his mother.
21 बे'अक़्ल के लिए बेवक़ूफ़ी शादमानी का ज़रिया' है, लेकिन समझदार अपने चाल चलन को दुरुस्त करता है
Stupidity makes people with no sense happy, but sensible people do what is right.
22 सलाह के बगै़र इरादे पूरे नहीं होते, लेकिन सलाहकारों की कसरत से क़याम पाते हैं।
Plans fall apart without good advice, but with plenty of advisors they're successful.
23 आदमी अपने मुँह के जवाब से ख़ुश होता है, और बामौक़ा' बात क्या खू़ब है।
A good answer makes people happy—it's great to say the right thing at the right moment!
24 'अक़्लमंद के लिए ज़िन्दगी की राह ऊपर को जाती है, ताकि वह पाताल में उतरने से बच जाए। (Sheol h7585)

25 ख़ुदावन्द मग़रूरों का घर ढा देता है, लेकिन वह बेवा के सिवाने को क़ाईम करता है।
The Lord pulls down the house of the proud, but he protects the boundaries of the widow's property.
26 बुरे मन्सूबों से ख़ुदावन्द को नफ़रत है लेकिन पाक लोगों का कलाम पसंदीदा है।
The Lord hates the thoughts of the wicked, but he honors the words of the pure.
27 नफ़े' का लालची अपने घराने को परेशान करता है, लेकिन वह जिसकी रिश्वत से नफ़रत है ज़िन्दा रहेगा।
People greedy for ill-gotten gains make trouble for their families, but those who hate bribes will live.
28 सादिक़ का दिल सोचकर जवाब देता है, लेकिन शरीरों का मुँह बुरी बातें उगलता है।
Good people think how best to answer questions, but stupid people say all kinds of evil things.
29 ख़ुदावन्द शरीरों से दूर है, लेकिन वह सादिक़ों की दुआ सुनता है।
The Lord keeps his distance from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the good.
30 आँखों का नूर दिल को ख़ुश करता है, और ख़ुश ख़बरी हड्डियों में फ़रबही पैदा करती है।
Bright eyes make you happy, and good news makes you feel good.
31 जो ज़िन्दगी बख़्श तम्बीह पर कान लगाता है, 'अक़्लमंदों के बीच सुकूनत करेगा।
If you pay attention to positive advice you'll be one of the wise.
32 तरबियत को रद्द करने वाला अपनी ही जान का दुश्मन है, लेकिन तम्बीह पर कान लगाने वाला समझ हासिल करता है।
If you ignore instruction you have no self-esteem, but if you listen to correction you gain understanding.
33 ख़ुदावन्द का ख़ौफ़ हिकमत की तरबियत है, और सरफ़राज़ी से पहले फ़रोतनी है।
Respect for the Lord teaches wisdom; humility goes before honor.
