अय्यू 4
1 तब तेमानी इलिफ़ज़ कहने लगा,
And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 अगर कोई तुझ से बात चीत करने की कोशिश करे तो क्या तू अफ़सोस करेगा?, लेकिन बोले बगै़र कौन रह सकता है?
If a word were essayed to thee, wouldest thou be grieved? But who can refrain from speaking?
3 देख, तू ने बहुतों को सिखाया, और कमज़ोर हाथों को मज़बूत किया।
Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands;
4 तेरी बातों ने गिरते हुए को संभाला, और तू ने लड़खड़ाते घुटनों को मज़बूत किया।
Thy words have upholden him that was stumbling, and thou hast braced up the bending knees:
5 लेकिन अब तो तुझी पर आ पड़ी और तू कमज़ोर हुआ जाता है। उसने तुझे छुआ और तू घबरा उठा।
But now it is come upon thee, and thou grievest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 क्या तेरे ख़ुदा का डर ही तेरा भरोसा नहीं? क्या तेरी राहों की रास्ती तेरी उम्मीद नहीं?
Hath not thy piety been thy confidence, and the perfection of thy ways thy hope?
7 क्या तुझे याद है कि कभी कोई मा'सूम भी हलाक हुआ है? या कहीं रास्तबाज़ भी काट डाले गए?
Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off?
8 मेरे देखने में तो जो गुनाह को जोतते और दुख बोते हैं, वही उसको काटते हैं।
Even as I have seen, they that plough iniquity and sow mischief, reap the same.
9 वह ख़ुदा के दम से हलाक होते, और उसके ग़ुस्से के झोंके से भस्म होते हैं।
By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his nostrils are they consumed.
10 बबर की ग़रज़ और खू़ँख़्वार बबर की दहाड़, और बबर के बच्चों के दाँत, यह सब तोड़े जाते हैं।
The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken;
11 शिकार न पाने से बूढ़ा बबर हलाक होता, और शेरनी के बच्चे तितर — बितर हो जाते हैं।
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.
12 एक बात चुपके से मेरे पास पहुँचाई गई, उसकी भनक मेरे कान में पड़ी।
Now to me a word was secretly brought, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
13 रात के ख़्वाबों के ख़्यालों के बीच, जब लोगों को गहरी नींद आती है।
In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men: —
14 मुझे ख़ौफ़ और कपकपी ने ऐसा पकड़ा, कि मेरी सब हड्डियों को हिला डाला।
Fear came on me, and trembling, and made all my bones to shake;
15 तब एक रूह मेरे सामने से गुज़री, और मेरे रोंगटे खड़े हो गए।
And a spirit passed before my face — the hair of my flesh stood up —
16 वह चुपचाप खड़ी हो गई लेकिन मैं उसकी शक्ल पहचान न सका; एक सूरत मेरी आँखों के सामने थी और सन्नाटा था। फिर मैंने एक आवाज़ सुनी:
It stood still; I could not discern the appearance thereof: a form was before mine eyes; I heard a slight murmur and a voice:
17 कि क्या फ़ानी इंसान ख़ुदा से ज़्यादा होगा? क्या आदमी अपने ख़ालिक़ से ज़्यादा पाक ठहरेगा?
Shall [mortal] man be more just than God? Shall a man be purer than his Maker?
18 देख, उसे अपने ख़ादिमों का 'ऐतबार नहीं, और वह अपने फ़रिश्तों पर हिमाक़त को 'आइद करता है।
Lo, he trusteth not his servants, and his angels he chargeth with folly:
19 फिर भला उनकी क्या हक़ीक़त है, जो मिट्टी के मकानों में रहते हैं। जिनकी बुन्नियाद ख़ाक में है, और जो पतंगे से भी जल्दी पिस जाते हैं।
How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed as the moth!
20 वह सुबह से शाम तक हलाक होते हैं, वह हमेशा के लिए फ़ना हो जाते हैं, और कोई उनका ख़याल भी नहीं करता।
From morning to evening are they smitten: without any heeding it, they perish for ever.
21 क्या उनके ख़ेमे की डोरी उनके अन्दर ही अन्दर तोड़ी नहीं जाती? वह मरते हैं और यह भी बगै़र दानाई के।
Is not their tent-cord torn away in them? they die, and without wisdom.
