1 क्या तू जनता है कि पहाड़ पर की जंगली बकरियाँ कब बच्चे देती हैं? या जब हिरनीयाँ बियाती हैं, तो क्या तू देख सकता है?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 क्या तू उन महीनों को जिन्हें वह पूरा करती हैं, गिन सकता है? या तुझे वह वक़्त मा'लूम है जब वह बच्चे देती हैं?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 वह झुक जाती हैं; वह अपने बच्चे देती हैं, और अपने दर्द से रिहाई पाती हैं।
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 उनके बच्चे मोटे ताज़े होते हैं; वह खुले मैदान में बढ़ते हैं। वह निकल जाते हैं और फिर नहीं लौटते।
Their young ones are become strong, they grow strong with grain; they go forth, and return not to them.
5 गधे को किसने आज़ाद किया? जंगली गधे के बंद किसने खोले?
Who hath sent out the wild donkey free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild donkey?
6 वीरान को मैंने उसका मकान बनाया, और ज़मीन — ए — शोर को उसका घर।
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 वह शहर के शोर — ओ — गु़ल को हेच समझता है, और हाँकने वाले की डॉट को नहीं सुनता।
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 पहाड़ों का सिलसिला उसकी चरागाह है, और वह हरियाली की तलाश में रहता है।
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 “क्या जंगली साँड तेरी ख़िदमत पर राज़ी होगा? क्या वह तेरी चरनी के पास रहेगा?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 क्या तू जंगली साँड को रस्से से बाँधकर रेघारी में चला सकता है? या वह तेरे पीछे — पीछे वादियों में हेंगा फेरेगा?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 क्या तू उसकी बड़ी ताक़त की वजह से उस पर भरोसा करेगा? या क्या तू अपना काम उस पर छोड़ देगा?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 क्या तू उस पर भरोसा करेगा कि वह तेरा ग़ल्ला घर ले आए, और तेरे खलीहान का अनाज इकट्ठा करे?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 “शुतरमुर्ग़ के बाज़ू आसूदा हैं, लेकिन क्या उसके पर — ओ — बाल से शफ़क़त ज़ाहिर होती है?
Gavest thou the goodly wings to the peacocks? or wings and feathers to the ostrich?
14 क्यूँकि वह तो अपने अंडे ज़मीन पर छोड़ देती है, और रेत से उनको गर्मी पहुँचाती है;
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
15 और भूल जाती है कि वह पाँव से कुचले जाएँगे, या कोई जंगली जानवर उनको रौंद डालेगा।
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 वह अपने बच्चों से ऐसी सख़्तदिली करती है कि जैसे वह उसके नहीं। चाहे उसकी मेहनत रायगाँ जाए उसे कुछ ख़ौफ़ नहीं।
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 क्यूँकि ख़ुदा ने उसे 'अक़्ल से महरूम रखा, और उसे समझ नहीं दी।
Because God hath withheld wisdom from her, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 जब वह तनकर सीधी खड़ी हो जाती है, तो घोड़े और उसके सवार दोनों को नाचीज़ समझती हैं।
When she lifteth herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 “क्या घोड़े को उसका ताक़त तू ने दी है? क्या उसकी गर्दन की लहराती अयाल से तूने मुलब्बस किया?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 क्या उसे टिड्डी की तरह तूने कुदाया है? उसके फ़राने की शान मुहीब है।
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 वह वादी में टाप मारता है और अपने ज़ोर में ख़ुश है। वह हथियारबंद आदमियों का सामना करने को निकलता है।
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 वह ख़ौफ़ को नाचीज़ जानता है और घबराता नहीं, और वह तलवार से मुँह नहीं मोड़ता।
He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 तर्कश उस पर खड़खड़ाता है, चमकता हुआ भाला और साँग भी;
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 वह तुन्दी और क़हर में ज़मीन पैमाई करता है, और उसे यक़ीन नहीं होता कि यह तुर ही की आवाज़ है।
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 जब जब तुरही बजती है, वह हिन हिन करता है, और लड़ाई को दूर से सूँघ लेता है; सरदारों की गरज़ और ललकार को भी।
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 “क्या बा'ज़ तेरी हिकमत से उड़ता है, और दख्खिन की तरफ़ अपने बाज़ू फैलाता है?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 क्या 'उक़ाब तेरे हुक्म से ऊपर चढ़ता है, और बुलन्दी पर अपना घोंसला बनाता है?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 वह चट्टान पर रहता और वहीं बसेरा करता है; या'नी चट्टान की चोटी पर और पनाह की जगह में।
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 वहीं से वह शिकार ताड़ लेता है, उसकी आँखें उसे दूर से देख लेती हैं।
From there she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 उसके बच्चे भी खू़न चूसते हैं, और जहाँ मक़्तूल हैं वहाँ वह भी है।”
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
