अय्यू 15
1 तब इलिफ़ज़ तेमानी ने जवाब दिया,
And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 क्या 'अक़्लमन्द को चाहिए कि फ़ुज़ूल बातें जोड़ कर जवाब दे, और पूरबी हवा से अपना पेट भरे?
Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,
3 क्या वह बेफ़ाइदा बक़वास से बहस करे या ऐसी तक़रीरों से जो बे फ़ाइदा हैं?
Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?
4 बल्कि तू ख़ौफ़ को नज़र अन्दाज़ करके, ख़ुदा के सामने इबादत को ज़ायल करता है।
Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before God.
5 क्यूँकि तेरा गुनाह तेरे मुँह को सिखाता है, और तू रियाकारों की ज़बान इख़्तियार करता है।
For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.
6 तेरा ही मुँह तुझे मुल्ज़िम ठहराता है न कि मैं, बल्कि तेरे ही होंट तेरे ख़िलाफ़ गवाही देते हैं।
Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.
7 क्या पहला इंसान तू ही पैदा हुआ? या पहाड़ों से पहले तेरी पैदाइश हुई?
Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?
8 क्या तू ने ख़ुदा की पोशीदा मसलहत सुन ली है, और अपने लिए 'अक़्लमन्दी का ठेका ले रख्खा है?
Hast thou listened in the secret council of God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?
9 तू ऐसा क्या जानता है, जो हम नहीं जानते? तुझ में ऐसी क्या समझ है जो हम में नहीं?
What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?
10 हम लोगों में सिर सफ़ेद बाल वाले और बड़े बूढ़े भी हैं, जो तेरे बाप से भी बहुत ज़्यादा उम्र के हैं।
Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.
11 क्या ख़ुदा की तसल्ली तेरे नज़दीक कुछ कम है, और वह कलाम जो तुझ से नरमी के साथ किया जाता है?
Are the consolations of God too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?
12 तेरा दिल तुझे क्यूँ खींच ले जाता है, और तेरी आँखें क्यूँ इशारा करती हैं?
Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?
13 क्या तू अपनी रूह को ख़ुदा की मुख़ालिफ़त पर आमादा करता है, और अपने मुँह से ऐसी बातें निकलने देता है?
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?
14 इंसान है क्या कि वह पाक हो? और वह जो 'औरत से पैदा हुआ क्या है, कि सच्चा हो।
What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 देख, वह अपने फ़रिर्श्तों का 'ऐतबार नहीं करता बल्कि आसमान भी उसकी नज़र में पाक नहीं।
Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:
16 फ़िर भला उसका क्या ज़िक्र जो घिनौना और ख़राब है या'नी वह आदमी जो बुराई को पानी की तरह पीता है।
How much less the abominable and corrupt, — man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!
17 “मैं तुझे बताता हूँ, तू मेरी सुन; और जो मैंने देखा है उसका बयान करूँगा।
I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;
18 जिसे 'अक़्लमन्दों ने अपने बाप — दादा से सुनकर बताया है, और उसे छिपाया नहीं;
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;
19 सिर्फ़ उन ही को मुल्क दिया गया था, और कोई परदेसी उनके बीच नहीं आया
Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 शरीर आदमी अपनी सारी उम्र दर्द से कराहता है, या'नी सब बरस जो ज़ालिम के लिए रख्खे गए हैं।
All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.
21 डरावनी आवाजें उसके कान में गूँजती रहती हैं, इक़बालमंदी के वक़्त ग़ारतगर उस पर आ पड़ेगा।
The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.
22 उसे यक़ीन नहीं कि वह अँधेरे से बाहर निकलेगा, और तलवार उसकी मुन्तज़िर है।
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.
23 वह रोटी के लिए मारा मारा फिरता है कि कहाँ मिलेगी। वह जानता है, कि अँधेरे के दिन मेरे पास ही है।
He wandereth abroad for bread, — where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 मुसीबत और सख़्त तकलीफ़ उसे डराती है; ऐसे बादशाह की तरह जो लड़ाई के लिए तैयार हो, वह उस पर ग़ालिब होते है।
Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.
25 इसलिए कि उसने ख़ुदा के ख़िलाफ़ अपना हाथ बढ़ाया और क़ादिर — ए — मुतलक़ के ख़िलाफ़ फ़ख़्र करता है;
For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:
26 वह अपनी ढालों की मोटी — मोटी गुलमैखों के साथ बाग़ी होकर उसपर हमला करता है:
He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;
27 इसलिए कि उसके मुँह पर मोटापा छा गया है, और उसके पहलुओं पर चर्बी की तहें जम गई हैं।
For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.
28 और वह वीरान शहरों में बस गया है, ऐसे मकानों में जिनमें कोई आदमी न बसा और जो वीरान होने को थे।
And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.
29 वह दौलतमन्द न होगा, उसका माल बना न रहेगा और ऐसों की पैदावार ज़मीन की तरफ़ न झुकेगी।
He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.
30 वह अँधेरे से कभी न निकलेगा, और शोले उसकी शाखों को ख़ुश्क कर देंगे, और वह ख़ुदा के मुँह से ताक़त से जाता रहेगा।
He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 वह अपने आप को धोका देकर बतालत का भरोसा न करे, क्यूँकि बतालत ही उसका मज़दूरी ठहरेगी।
Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;
32 यह उसके वक़्त से पहले पूरा हो जाएगा, और उसकी शाख़ हरी न रहेगी।
It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.
33 ताक की तरह उसके अंगूर कच्चे ही और जै़तून की तरह उसके फूल गिर जाएँगे।
He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.
34 क्यूँकि बे ख़ुदा लोगों की जमा'अत बेफल रहेगी, और रिशवत के ख़ेमों को आग भस्म कर देगी।
For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
35 वह शरारत से ताक़तवर होते हैं और गुनाह पैदा होता है, और उनका पेट धोखा को तैयार करता है।”
They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
