1 और दाऊद ने अपने दिल में कहा कि अब मैं किसी न किसी दिन साऊल के हाथ से हलाक हूँगा, तब मेरे लिए इससे बेहतर और कुछ नहीं कि मैं फ़िलिस्तियों की सर ज़मीन को भाग जाऊँ और साऊल मुझ से न उम्मीद हो कर बनी इस्राईल की सरहदों में फिर मुझे नहीं ढूँडेगा, यूँ मैं उसके हाथ से बच जाऊँगा।
And David said in his heart, Now I may yet perish suddenly one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than that I should escape at once into the land of the Philistines, then Saul will abstain from me, to seek me any more in all the territory of Israel: and so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 इसलिए दाऊद उठा और अपने साथ के छ: सौ जवानों को लेकर जात के बादशाह म'ओक के बेटे अकीस के पास गया।
And David arose, and he passed over himself with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Ma'och, the king of Gath.
3 और दाऊद उसके लोग जात में अकीस के साथ अपने अपने ख़ानदान समेत रहने लगे और दाऊद के साथ भी उसकी दोनों बीवियाँ या'नी यज़र'एली अख़नूअम और नाबाल की बीवी कर्मिली अबीजेल थीं।
And David remained with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, also David with his two wives, Achino'am the Yizre'elitess, and Abigayil, Nabal's wife, the Carmelitess.
4 और साऊल को ख़बर मिली कि दाऊद जात को भाग गया, तब उस ने फिर कभी उसकी तलाश न की।
And when it was told unto Saul that David was fled to Gath, he continued no more to seek for him.
5 और दाऊद ने अकीस से कहा, “कि अगर मुझ पर तेरे करम की नज़र है तो मुझे उस मुल्क के शहरों में कहीं जगह दिला दे ताकि मैं वहाँ बसूँ, तेरा ख़ादिम तेरे साथ दार — उस — सल्तनत में क्यूँ रहें?”
And David said unto Achish, If now I have found grace in thy eyes, let them give me a place in some one of the country-towns, that I may dwell there; for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6 इसलिए अकीस ने उस दिन सिक़लाज उसे दिया इसलिए सिक़लाज आज के दिन तक यहूदाह के बादशाहों का है।
Then gave Achish unto him on that day Ziklag: therefore hath Ziklag pertained unto the kings of Judah until this day.
7 और दाऊद फ़िलिस्तियों की सर ज़मीन में कुल एक बरस और चार महीने तक रहा।
And the number of the days that David dwelt in the fields of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 और दाऊद और उसके लोगों ने जाकर जसूरियों और जज़ीरयों और 'अमालीक़ियों पर हमला किया क्यूँकि वह शोर कि राह से मिस्र की हद तक उस सर ज़मीन के पुराने बाशिंदे थे।
And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gizrites, and the 'Amalekites; for these nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, till thou comest to Shur, and as far as the land of Egypt.
9 और दाऊद ने उस सर ज़मीन को तबाह कर डाला और 'औरत मर्द किसी को ज़िन्दा न छोड़ा और उनकी भेड़ बकरियाँ और बैल और गधे और ऊँट और कपड़े लेकर लौटा और अकीस के पास गया।
And David smote the land, and left not alive either man or woman, and took away the flocks, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
10 अकीस ने पूछा, “कि आज तुम ने किधर लूट मार की, दाऊद ने कहा, यहूदाह के दख्खिन और यरहमीलियों के दख्खिन और क़ीनियों के दख्खिनमें।”
And Achish said, Whither have ye made an inroad today? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Yerachmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
11 और दाऊद उन में से एक मर्द 'औरत को भी ज़िन्दा बचा कर जात में नहीं लाता था और कहता था कि “कहीं वह हमारी हक़ीक़त न खोल दें, और कह दें कि दाऊद ने ऐसा ऐसा किया और जब से वह फ़िलिस्तियों के मुल्क में बसा है, तब से उसका यहीं तरीक़ा रहा, है।”
And David left not alive either man or woman, to bring [them] to Gath, saying, That they may not tell on us, saying, So hath David done, and so is his custom all the days he hath dwelt in the fields of the Philistines.
12 और अकीस ने दाऊद का यक़ीन कर के कहा, “कि उसने अपनी कौम इस्राईल को अपनी तरफ़ से कमाल नफ़रत दिला दी है इसलिए अब हमेशा यह मेरा ख़ादिम रहेगा।”
And Achish had confidence in David, saying, He hath surely spoiled his odor among his people, among Israel; and he will become unto me a servant for ever.
