1 फिर फ़िलिस्तियों ने जंग के लिए अपनी फ़ौजें जमा' कीं, और यहूदाह के शहर शोको में इकट्ठे हुए और शोक़े और 'अजीक़ा के बीच अफ़सदम्मीम में ख़ैमाज़न हुए।
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
2 और साऊल और इस्राईल के लोगों ने जमा' होकर एला की वादी में डेरे डाले और लड़ाई के लिए फ़िलिस्तियों के मुक़ाबिल सफ़ आराई की।
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched in the vale of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 और एक तरफ़ के पहाड़ पर फ़िलिस्ती और दूसरी तरफ़ के पहाड़ पर बनी इस्राईल खड़े हुए और इन दोनों के बीच वादी थी।
And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side; and there was a valley between them.
4 और फ़िलिस्तियों के लश्कर से एक पहलवान निकला जिसका नाम जाती जूलियत था, उसका क़द छ हाथ और एक बालिश्त था।
And there went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 और उसके सर पर पीतल का टोपा था, और वह पीतल ही की ज़िरह पहने हुए था जो तोल में पाँच हज़ार पीतल की मिस्क़ाल के बराबर थी।
And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
6 और उसकी टाँगों पर पीतल के दो साकपोश थे और उसके दोनों शानों के बीच पीतल की बरछी थी।
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
7 और उसके भाले की छड़ ऐसी थी जैसे जुलाहे का शहतीर और उसके नेज़े का फ़ल छ: सौ मिस्क़ाल लोहे का था और एक शख़्स ढाल लिए हुए उसके आगे आगे चलता था।
And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him.
8 वह खड़ा हुआ, और इस्राईल के लश्करों को पुकार कर उन से कहने लगा कि तुमने आकर जंग के लिए क्यूँ सफ आराई की? क्या मैं फ़िलिस्ती नहीं और तुम साऊल के ख़ादिम नहीं? इसलिए अपने लिए किसी शख़्स को चुनो जो मेरे पास उतर आए।
And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them: 'Why do ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
9 अगर वह मुझे से लड़ सके और मुझे क़त्ल कर डाले तो हम तुम्हारे ख़ादिम हो जाएँगे लेकिन अगर मैं उस पर ग़ालिब आऊँ और उसे क़त्ल कर डालूँ तो तुम हमारे ख़ादिम हो जाना और हमारी ख़िदमत करना।
If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.'
10 फिर उस फ़िलिस्ती ने कहा कि मैं आज के दिन इस्राईली फ़ौजों की बे'इज़्ज़ती करता हूँ कोई जवान निकालो ताकि हम लड़ें।
And the Philistine said: 'I do taunt the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.'
11 जब साऊल और सब इस्राईलियों ने उस फ़िलिस्ती की बातें सुनीं, तो परेशान हुए और बहुत डर गए।
And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
12 और दाऊद बैतल हम यहूदाह के उस इफ़्राती आदमी का बेटा था जिसका नाम यस्सी था, उसके आठ बेटे थे और वह ख़ुद साऊल के ज़माना के लोगों के बीच बुड्ढा और उम्र दराज़ था।
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons; and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.
13 और यस्सी के तीन बड़े बेटे साऊल के पीछे पीछे जंग में गए थे और उसके तीनों बेटों के नाम जो जंग में गए थे यह थे इलियाब जो पहलौठा था, और दूसरा अबीनदाब और तीसरा सम्मा।
And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 और दाऊद सबसे छोटा था और तीनों बड़े बेटे साऊल के पीछे पीछे थे।
And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul. —
15 और दाऊद बैतलहम में अपने बाप की भेड़ बकरयाँ चराने को साऊल के पास से आया जाया करता था।
Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth-lehem. —
16 और वह फ़िलिस्ती सुबह और शाम नज़दीक आता और चालिस दिन तक निकल कर आता रहा।
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 और यस्सी ने अपने बेटे दाऊद से कहा कि “इस भुने अनाज में से एक ऐफ़ा और यह दस रोटियाँ अपने भाइयों के लिए लेकर इनको जल्द लश्कर गाह, में अपने भाइयों के पास पहुचा दे।
And Jesse said unto David his son: 'Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren.
18 और उनके हज़ारी सरदार के पास पनीर की यह दस टिकियाँ लेजा और देख कि तेरे भाइयों का क्या हाल है, और उनकी कुछ निशानी ले आ।”
And bring these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and to thy brethren shalt thou bring greetings, and take their pledge;
19 और साऊल और वह भाई और सब इस्राईली जवान एला की वादी में फ़िलिस्तियों से लड़ रहे थे।
now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, are in the vale of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.'
20 और दाऊद सुबह को सवेरे उठा, और भेड़ बकरियों को एक रखवाले के पास छोड़ कर यस्सी के हुक्म के मुताबिक़ सब कुछ लेकर रवाना हुआ, और जब वह लश्कर जो लड़ने जा रहा था, जंग के लिए ललकार रहा था, उस वक़्त वह छकड़ों के पड़ाव में पहुँचा।
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the barricade, as the host which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
21 और इस्राईलियों और फ़िलिस्तियों ने अपने — अपने लश्कर को आमने सामने करके सफ़ आराई की।
And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
22 और दाऊद अपना सामान असबाब के निगहबान के हाथ में छोड़ कर आप लश्कर में दौड़ गया और जाकर अपने भाइयों से ख़ैर — ओ — 'आफ़ियत पूछी।
And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brethren.
23 और वह उनसे बातें करता ही था कि देखो वह पहलवान जात का फ़िलिस्ती जिसका नाम जूलियत था फ़िलिस्ती सफ़ों में से निकला और उसने फिर वैसी ही बातें कहीं और दाऊद ने उनको सुना।
And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words; and David heard them.
24 और सब इस्राईली जवान उस शख़्स को देख कर उसके सामने से भागे और बहुत डर गए।
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
25 तब इस्राईली जवान ऐसा कहने लगे, “तुम इस आदमी को जो निकला है देखते हो? यक़ीनन यह इस्राईल की बे'इज़्ज़ती करने को आया है, इसलिए जो कोई उसको मार डाले उसे बादशाह बड़ी दौलत से माला माल करेगा और अपनी बेटी उसे ब्याह देगा, और उसके बाप के घराने को इस्राईल के बीच आज़ाद कर देगा।”
And the men of Israel said: 'Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to taunt Israel is he come up; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.'
26 और दाऊद ने उन लोगों से जो उसके पास खड़े थे पूछा कि जो शख़्स इस फ़िलिस्ती को मार कर यह नंग इस्राईल से दूर करे उस से क्या सुलूक किया जाएगा? क्यूँकि यह ना मख्तून फ़िलिस्ती होता कौन है कि वह जिंदा ख़ुदा की फ़ौजों की बे'इज़्ज़ती करे?
And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying: 'What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the taunt from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should have taunted the armies of the living God?'
27 और लोगों ने उसे यही जवाब दिया कि उस शख़्स से जो उसे मार डाले यह सुलूक किया जाएगा।
And the people answered him after this manner, saying: 'So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.'
28 और उसके सब से बड़े भाई इलियाब ने उसकी बातों को जो वह लोगों से करता था सुना और इलयाब का ग़ुस्सा दाऊद पर भड़का और वह कहने लगा, “तू यहाँ क्यूँ आया है? और वह थोड़ी सी भेड़ बकरियाँ तूने जंगल में किस के पास छोड़ीं? मैं तेरे घमंड और तेरे दिल की शरारत से वाक़िफ़ हूँ, तु लड़ाई देखने आया है।”
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said: 'Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumptuousness, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.'
29 दाऊद ने कहा, “मैंने अब क्या किया? क्या बात ही नहीं हो रही है?”
And David said: 'What have I now done? Was it not but a word?'
30 और वह उसके पास से फिर कर दूसरे की तरफ़ गया और वैसी ही बातें करने लगा और लोगों ने उसे फिर पहले की तरह जवाब दिया।
And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him after the former manner.
31 और जब वह बातें जो दाऊद ने कहीं सुनने में आईं तो उन्होंने साऊल के आगे उनका ज़िक्र किया और उसने उसे बुला भेजा।
And when the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he was taken to him.
32 और दाऊद ने साऊल से कहा कि उस शख़्स की वजह से किसी का दिल न घबराए, तेरा ख़ादिम जाकर उस फ़िलिस्ती से लड़ेगा।
And David said to Saul: 'Let no man's heart fail within him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.'
33 साऊल ने दाऊद से कहा कि तू इस क़ाबिल नहीं कि उस फ़िलिस्ती से लड़ने को उसके सामने जाए; क्यूँकि तू महज़ लड़का है और वह अपने बचपन से जंगी जवान है।
And Saul said to David: 'Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.'
34 तब दाऊद ने साऊल को जवाब दिया कि तेरा ख़ादिम अपने बाप की भेड़ बकरियाँ चराता था और जब कभी कोई शेर या रीछ आकर झुंड में से कोई बर्रा उठा ले जाता।
And David said unto Saul: 'Thy servant kept his father's sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,
35 तो मैं उसके पीछे पीछे जाकर उसे मारता और उसे उसके मुँह से छुड़ाता था और जब वह मुझ पर झपटता तो मैं उसकी दाढ़ी पकड़ कर उसे मारता और हलाक कर देता था।
I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 तेरे ख़ादिम ने शेर और रीछ दोनों को जान से मारा इसलिए यह नामख़तून फ़िलिस्ती उन में से एक की तरह होगा, इसलिए कि उसने ज़िन्दा ख़ुदा की फ़ौजों की बे'इज़्ज़ती की है।
Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath taunted the armies of the living God.'
37 फिर दाऊद ने कहा, “ख़ुदावन्द ने मुझे शेर और रीछ के पंजे से बचाया, वही मुझको इस फ़िलिस्ती के हाथ से बचाएगा।” साऊल ने दाऊद से कहा, “जा ख़ुदावन्द तेरे साथ रहे।”
And David said: 'The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' And Saul said unto David: 'Go, and the LORD shall be with thee.'
38 तब साऊल ने अपने कपड़े दाऊद को पहनाए, और पीतल का टोप उसके सर पर रख्खा और उसे ज़िरह भी पहनाई।
And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
39 और दाऊद ने उसकी तलवार अपने कपड़ों पर कस ली और चलने की कोशिश की क्यूँकि उसने इनको आजमाया नहीं था, तब दाऊद ने साऊल से कहा, “मैं इनको पहन कर चल नहीं सकता क्यूँकि मैंने इनको आजमाया नहीं है।” इसलिए दाऊद ने उन सबको उतार दिया।
And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he essayed to go, but could not; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul: 'I cannot go with these; for I have not tried them.' And David put them off him.
40 और उसने अपनी लाठी अपने हाथ में ली, और उस नाला से पाँच चिकने — चिकने पत्थर अपने वास्ते चुन कर उनको चरवाहे के थैले में जो उसके पास था, या'नी झोले में डाल लिया, और उसका गोफ़न उसके हाथ में था फिर वह फ़िलिस्ती के नज़दीक चला।
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his scrip; and his sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 और वह फ़िलिस्ती बढ़ा, और दाऊद के नज़दीक़ आया और उसके आगे — आगे उसका सिपर बरदार था।
And the Philistine came nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
42 और जब उस फ़िलिस्ती ने इधर उधर निगाह की और दाऊद को देखा तो उसे नाचीज़ जाना क्यूँकि वह महज़ लड़का था, और सुर्ख़रु और नाज़ुक चेहरे का था।
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.
43 तब फ़िलिस्ती ने दाऊद से कहा, “क्या मैं कुत्ता हूँ, जो तू लाठी लेकर मेरे पास आता है?” और उस फ़िलिस्ती ने अपने मा'बूदों का नाम लेकर दाऊद पर ला'नत की।
And the Philistine said unto David: 'Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?' And the Philistine cursed David by his god.
44 और उस फ़िलिस्ती ने दाऊद से कहा, “तू मेरे पास आ, और मैं तेरा गोश्त हवाई परिंदों और जंगली जानवरों को दूँगा।”
And the Philistine said to David: 'Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.'
45 और दाऊद ने उस फ़िलिस्ती से कहा कि “तू तलवार भाला और बरछी लिए हुए मेरे पास आता है, लेकिन मैं रब्ब — उल — अफ़वाज के नाम से जो इस्राईल के लश्करों का ख़ुदा है, जिसकी तूने बे'इज़्ज़ती की है तेरे पास आता हूँ।
Then said David to the Philistine: 'Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast taunted.
46 और आज ही के दिन ख़ुदावन्द तुझको मेरे हाथ में कर देगा, और मैं तुझको मार कर तेरा सर तुझ पर से उतार लूँगा और मैं आज के दिन फ़िलिस्तियों के लश्कर की लाशें हवाई परिंदों और ज़मीन के जंगली जानवरों को दूँगा ताकि दुनिया जान ले कि इस्राईल में एक ख़ुदा है।
This day will the LORD deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel;
47 और यह सारी जमा'अत जान ले कि ख़ुदावन्द तलवार और भाले के ज़रिए' से नहीं बचाता इसलिए कि जंग तो ख़ुदावन्द की है, और वही तुमको हमारे हाथ में कर देगा।”
and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hand.'
48 और ऐसा हुआ, कि जब वह फ़िलिस्ती उठा, और बढ़ कर दाऊद के मुक़ाबिला के लिए नज़दीक आया, तो दाऊद ने जल्दी की और लश्कर की तरफ़ उस फ़िलिस्ती से मुक़ाबिला करने को दौड़ा।
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 और दाऊद ने अपने थैले में अपना हाथ डाला और उस में से एक पत्थर लिया और गोफ़न में रख कर उस फ़िलिस्ती के माथे पर मारा और वह पत्थर उसके माथे के अंदर घुस गया और वह ज़मीन पर मुँह के बल गिर पड़ा।
And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 इसलिए दाऊद उस गोफ़न और एक पत्थर से उस फ़िलिस्ती पर ग़ालिब आया और उस फ़िलिस्ती को मारा और क़त्ल किया और दाऊद के हाथ में तलवार न थी।
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 और दाऊद दौड़ कर उस फ़िलिस्ती के ऊपर खड़ा हो गया, और उसकी तलवार पकड़ कर मियाँन से खींची और उसे क़त्ल किया और उसी से उसका सर काट डाला और फ़िलिस्तियों ने जो देखा कि उनका पहलवान मारा गया तो वह भागे।
And David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their mighty man was dead, they fled.
52 और इस्राईल और यहूदाह के लोग उठे और ललकार कर फ़िलिस्तियों को गई और 'अक़रून के फाटकों तक दौड़ाया और फ़िलिस्तियों में से जो ज़ख़्मी हुए थे वह शा'रीम के रास्ते में और जात और 'अक्रू़न तक गिरते गए।
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
53 तब बनी इस्राईल फ़िलिस्तियों के पीछे से उलटे फिरे और उनके ख़ेमों को लूटा।
And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camp.
54 और दाऊद उस फ़िलिस्ती का सर लेकर उसे येरूशलेम में लाया और उसके हथियारों को उसने अपने डेरे में रख दिया।
And David took the head of the philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 जब साऊल ने दाऊद को उस फ़िलिस्ती का मुक़ाबिला करने के लिए जाते देखा तो उसने लश्कर के सरदार अबनेर से पूछा अबनेर यह लड़का किसका बेटा है? अबनेर ने कहा, ऐ बादशाह तेरी जान की क़सम में नहीं जानता।
And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host: 'Abner, whose son is this youth?' And Abner said: 'As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.'
56 तब बादशाह ने कहा, तू मा'लूम कर कि यह नौजवान किस का बेटा है।
And the king said: 'Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.'
57 और जब दाऊद उस फ़िलिस्ती को क़त्ल कर के फ़िरा तो अबनेर उसे लेकर साऊल के पास लाया और फ़िलिस्ती का सर उसके हाथ में था।
And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 तब साऊल ने उससे कहा, “ऐ जवान तू किसका बेटा है?” दाऊद ने जवाब दिया, “मैं तेरे ख़ादिम बैतलहमी यस्सी का बेटा हूँ।”
And Saul said to him: 'Whose son art thou, thou young man?' And David answered: 'I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.'
