1 और एक दिन ऐसा हुआ, कि साऊल के बेटे यूनतन ने उस जवान से जो उसका सिलाह बरदार था कहा कि आ हम फ़िलिस्तियों की चौकी को जो उस तरफ़ है चलें, पर उसने अपने बाप को न बताया।
One day Jonathan, son of Saul, said to the young armor-bearer, “Come on, let's cross over to the Philistine garrison on the other side.” But he didn't let his father know his plans.
2 और साऊल जिबा' के निकास पर उस अनार के दरख़्त के नीचे जो मजरुन में है मुक़ीम था, और क़रीबन छ: सौ आदमी उसके साथ थे।
Saul was staying near Gibeah under a pomegranate tree in Migron. He had about six hundred men with him,
3 और अख़ियाह बिन अख़ीतोब जो यकबोद बिन फ़ीन्हास बिन 'एली का भाई और शीलोह में ख़ुदावन्द का काहिन था अफ़ूद पहने हुए था और लोगों को ख़बर न थी कि यूनतन चला गया है।
including Ahijah, who was wearing an ephod. He was a son of Ichabod's brother Ahitub, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, priest of the Lord in Shiloh. No one realized Jonathan had left.
4 और उन की घाटियों के बीच जिन से होकर यूनतन फ़िलिस्तियों की चौकी को जाना चाहता था एक तरफ़ एक बड़ी नुकीली चट्टान थी और दूसरी तरफ़ भी एक बड़ी नुकीली चट्टान थी, एक का नाम बुसीस था दूसरी का सना।
Cliffs stood on both sides of the pass that Jonathan planned to cross to reach the Philistine garrison, one called Bozez and the other Seneh.
5 एक तो शिमाल की तरफ़ मिक्मास के मुक़ाबिल और दूसरी जुनूब की तरफ़ जिबा' के मुक़ाबिल थी।
The cliff to the north was on the Michmash side, the one to the south on the Geba side.
6 इसलिए यूनतन ने उस जवान से जो उसका सिलाह बरदार था, कहा, “आ हम उधर उन नामख़्तूनों की चौकी को चलें — मुम्किन है, कि ख़ुदावन्द हमारा काम बना दे, क्यूँकि ख़ुदावन्द के लिए बहुत सारे या थोड़ों के ज़रिए' से बचाने की कै़द नहीं।”
Jonathan said to the young armor-bearer, “Come on, let's cross over to the garrison of these heathen men. Maybe the Lord will help us out. It's not a problem for the Lord to win, whether by many or by few.”
7 उसके सिलाह बरदार ने उससे कहा, “जो कुछ तेरे दिल में है इसलिए कर और उधर चल मैं तो तेरी मर्ज़ी के मुताबिक़ तेरे साथ हूँ।”
“You choose what you want to do,” the armor-bearer replied. “I'm with you whatever you decide!”
8 तब यूनतन ने कहा, “देख हम उन लोगों के पास इस तरफ़ जाएँगे, और अपने को उनको दिखाएँगे।
“Let's go then!” Jonathan said. “We'll cross over in their direction so they can see us.
9 अगर वह हम से यह कहें, कि हमारे आने तक ठहरो, तो हम अपनी जगह चुप चाप खड़े रहेंगे और उनके पास नहीं जाएँगे।
If they tell us, ‘Wait there until we come down to you,’ we will wait where we are and we won't go up to them.
10 लेकिन अगर वह यूँ कहें, कि हमारे पास तो आओ, तो हम चढ़ जाएँगे, क्यूँकि ख़ुदावन्द ने उनको हमारे क़ब्ज़े में कर दिया, और यह हमारे लिए निशान होगा।”
But if they say, ‘Come on up to us,’ we'll climb up, for that will be the sign that the Lord has handed them over to us.”
11 फिर इन दोनों ने अपने आप को फ़िलिस्तियों की चौकी के सिपाहियों को दिखाया, और फ़िलिस्ती कहने लगे, “देखो ये 'इब्रानी उन सुराख़ों में से जहाँ वह छिप गए थे, बाहर निकले आते हैं।”
So both of them let themselves be seen by Philistine garrison. “Hey, look!” shouted the Philistines. “The Hebrews are coming out of the holes they were hiding in.”
12 और चौकी के सिपाहियों ने यूनतन और उसके सिलाह बरदार से कहा, “हमारे पास आओ, तो सही, हम तुमको एक चीज़ दिखाएँ।” इसलिए यूनतन ने अपने सिलाह बरदार से कहा, “अब मेरे पीछे पीछे चढ़ा, चला आ, क्यूँकि ख़ुदावन्द ने उनको इस्राईल के क़ब्ज़े में कर दिया है।”
The men from the garrison called down to Jonathan and his armor-bearer, “Come up here, and we'll teach you a thing or two!” “Follow me up,” Jonathan told his armor-bearer, “for the Lord has handed them over to Israel.”
13 और यूनतन अपने हाथों और पाँव के बल चढ़ गया, और उसके पीछे पीछे उसका सिलाह बरदार था, और वह यूनतन के सामने गिरते गए और उसका सिलाह बरदार उसके पीछे पीछे उनको क़त्ल करता गया।
So Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer right behind him. Jonathan attacked and killed them, and his armor-bearer followed doing the same.
14 यह पहली ख़ूरेज़ी जो यूनतन और उसके सिलाह बरदार ने की क़रीबन बीस आदमियों की थी जो कोई एक बीघा ज़मीन की रेघारी में मारे गए।
In this first attack, Jonathan and his armor-bearer killed about twenty men over an area of half an acre.
15 तब लश्कर और मैदान और सब लोगों में लरज़िश हुई और चौकी के सिपाही, और ग़ारतगर भी काँप गए, और ज़लज़ला आया इसलिए निहायत तेज़ कपकपी हुई।
Then Philistines went into a panic, in the camp, in the field, and throughout their army. Even those in the outposts and the groups of raiders became terrified. The earth shook—this was a panic from God.
16 और साऊल के निगहबानों ने जो बिनयमीन के जिबा' में थे नज़र की और देखा कि भीड़ घटती जाती है और लोग इधर उधर जा रहे हैं।
Saul's lookouts at Gibeah in Benjamin saw the Philistine army melting away, scattering in all directions.
17 तब साऊल ने उन लोगों से जो उसके साथ थे, कहा, “गिनती करके देखो, कि हम में से कौन चला गया है,” इसलिए उन्होंने शुमार किया तो देखो, यूनतन और उसका सिलाह बरदार ग़ायब थे।
Saul told the soldiers with him, “Do a roll-call and find out who isn't here with us.” When they did the roll-call, they discovered that Jonathan and his armor-bearer weren't there.
18 और साऊल ने अख़ियाह से कहा, “ख़ुदा का संदूक़ यहाँ ला।” क्यूँकि ख़ुदा का संदूक़ उस वक़्त बनी इस्राईल के साथ वहीं था।
Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the Ark of God here.” (At the time the Ark of God traveled with the Israelites.)
19 और जब साऊल काहिन से बातें कर रहा था तो फ़िलिस्तियों की लश्कर गाह, में जो हलचल मच गई थी वह और ज़्यादा हो गई तब साऊल ने काहिन से कहा कि “अपना हाथ खींच ले।”
But as Saul was speaking to the priest, the commotion coming from the Philistine camp grew louder and louder. So Saul told the priest, “Forget it!”
20 और साऊल और सब लोग जो उसके साथ थे, एक जगह जमा' हो गए, और लड़ने को आए और देखा कि हर एक की तलवार अपने ही साथी पर चल रही है, और सख़्त तहलका मचा हुआ है।
Then Saul and all his army assembled and went into battle. They discovered the Philistines were in total disarray, attacking each other with swords.
21 और वह 'इब्रानी भी जो पहले की तरह फ़िलिस्तियों के साथ थे और चारो तरफ़ से उनके साथ लश्कर में आए थे फिर कर उन इस्राईलियों से मिल गए जो साऊल और यूनतन के साथ थे।
The Hebrews who had previously sided with the Philistines, and who were with them in their camp, switched sides and joined the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22 इसी तरह उन सब इस्राईली मर्दों ने भी जो इफ़्राईम के पहाड़ी मुल्क में छिप गए थे, यह सुन कर कि फ़िलिस्ती भागे जाते हैं, लड़ाई में आ उनका पीछा किया।
When all the Israelites who had been hiding in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were running away, they also joined in chasing after the Philistines to attack them.
23 तब ख़ुदावन्द ने उस दिन इस्राईलियों को रिहाई दी और लड़ाई बैत आवन के उस पार तक पहुँची।
On that day the Lord saved Israel, and the battle extended past Beth-aven.
24 और इस्राईली मर्द उस दिन बड़े परेशान थे, क्यूँकि साऊल ने लोगों को क़सम देकर यूँ कहा, था कि जब तक शाम न हो और मैं अपने दुश्मनों से बदला न ले लूँ उस वक़्त तक अगर कोई कुछ खाए तो वह ला'नती हो। इस वजह से उन लोगों में से किसी ने खाना चखा तक न था।
It was difficult for the men of Israel that day because Saul had ordered the army to take an oath, saying, “Cursed is anyone who eats anything before evening, before I have avenged myself on my enemies.” So no one in the army had eaten anything.
25 और सब लोग जंगल में जा पहुँचे और वहाँ ज़मीन पर शहद था।
When they all entered the forest they found honeycomb on the ground.
26 और जब यह लोग उस जंगल में पहुँच गए तो देखा कि शहद टपक रहा है तो भी कोई अपना हाथ अपने मुँह तक नही ले गया इसलिए कि उनको क़सम का ख़ौफ़ था।
While they were in the forest they saw the honey running out, but no one picked it up to eat it because they were all afraid of the oath they had taken.
27 लेकिन यूनतन ने अपने बाप को उन लोगों को क़सम देते नहीं सुना था, इसलिए उसने अपने हाथ की लाठी के सिरे को शहद के छत्ते में भोंका और अपना हाथ अपने मुँह से लगा लिया और उसकी आँखों में रोशनी आई।
But Jonathan hadn't heard that his father had ordered the army to take this oath. So he stuck the end of his stick into the honeycomb, picked up a piece to eat, and he felt much better.
28 तब उन लोगों में से एक ने उससे कहा, तेरे बाप ने लोगों को क़सम देकर सख़्त ताकीद की थी, और कहा था “कि जो शख़्स आज के दिन कुछ खाना खाए, वह ला'नती हो और लोग बेदम से हो रहे थे।”
But one of the soldiers told him, “Your father made the army take a solemn oath, saying, ‘Cursed is anyone who eats anything today!’ That is why the men are exhausted.”
29 तब यूनतन ने कहा कि मेरे बाप ने मुल्क को दुख दिया है, देखो मेरी आँखों में ज़रा सा शहद चखने की वजह से कैसी रोशनी आई।
“My father has caused a whole lot of trouble for everyone,” Jonathan replied. “See how well I am because I've eaten a little of this honey.
30 कितना ज़्यादा अच्छा होता अगर सब लोग दुश्मन की लूट में से जो उनको मिली दिल खोल कर खाते क्यूँकि अभी तो फ़िलिस्तियों में कोई बड़ी ख़ूरेज़ी भी नहीं हुई है।
It would have been so much better if only the army had eaten plenty today from the plunder taken from their enemies! How many more Philistines would have been killed?”
31 और उन्होंने उस दिन मिक्मास से अय्यालोन तक फ़िलिस्तियों को मारा और लोग बहुत ही बे दम हो गए।
After defeating the Philistines that day, killing them from Michmash to Aijalon, the Israelites were totally exhausted.
32 इसलिए वह लोग लूट पर गिरे और भेड़ बकरियों और बैलों और बछड़ों को लेकर उनको ज़मीन पर ज़बह, किया और ख़ून समेत खाने लगे।
They grabbed the plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and calves, and slaughtered them right there on the ground. But they ate them with the blood.
33 तब उन्होंने साऊल को ख़बर दी कि देख लोग ख़ुदावन्द का गुनाह करते हैं कि ख़ून समेत खा रहे हैं। उसने कहा, तुम ने बेईमानी की, इसलिए एक बड़ा पत्थर आज मेरे सामने ढलका लाओ।
Saul was told, “Look, the men are sinning against the Lord by eating meat with the blood.” “Law-breakers!” said Saul. “Roll a large stone over here right now!”
34 फिर साऊल ने कहा कि लोगों के बीच इधर उधर जाकर उन से कहो कि हर शख़्स अपना बैल और अपनी भेड़ यहाँ मेरे पास लाए और यहीं, ज़बह करे और खाए और ख़ून समेत खाकर ख़ुदा का गुनहगार न बने। चुनाँचे उस रात लोगों में से हर शख़्स अपना बैल वहीं लाया और वहीं ज़बह किया।
Then he said, “Go around the soldiers and tell them, ‘Every man must bring me his cattle or his sheep and slaughter them here, and then eat. Don't sin against the Lord by eating meat with the blood.’” Everyone in the army brought what he had and slaughtered it there that night.
35 और साऊल ने ख़ुदावन्द के लिए एक मज़बह बनाया, यह पहला मज़बह है, जो उसने ख़ुदावन्द के लिए बनाया।
So Saul built an altar to the Lord. This was the first altar he had built to the Lord.
36 फिर साऊल ने कहा, “आओ, रात ही को फ़िलिस्तियों का पीछा करें और पौ फटने तक उनको लूटें और उन में से एक आदमी को भी न छोड़ें।” उन्होंने कहा, “जो कुछ तुझे अच्छा लगे वह कर तब काहिन ने कहा, कि आओ, हम यहाँ ख़ुदा के नज़दीक हाज़िर हों।”
Saul said, “Let's go and chase down the Philistines during night and plunder them till dawn, leaving no survivors.” “Do what you think best,” they replied. But the priest said, “Let's ask God first.”
37 और साऊल ने ख़ुदा से सलाह ली, कि क्या मैं फ़िलिस्तियों का पीछा करूँ? क्या तू उनको इस्राईल के हाथ में कर देगा। तो भी उसने उस दिन उसे कुछ जवाब न दिया।
Saul asked God, “Shall I go down and chase down the Philistines? Will you hand them over to Israel?” But that day God didn't answer him.
38 तब साऊल ने कहा कि तुम सब जो लोगों के सरदार हो यहाँ, नज़दीक आओ, और तहक़ीक़ करो और देखो कि आज के दिन गुनाह क्यूँकर हुआ है।
So Saul gave the order, “All you army commanders, come here so we can investigate what sin has happened today.
39 क्यूँकि ख़ुदावन्द की हयात की क़सम जो इस्राईल को रिहाई देता है अगर वह मेरे बेटे यूनतन ही का गुनाह हो, वह ज़रूर मारा जाएगा, लेकिन उन सब लोगों में से किसी आदमी ने उसको जवाब न दिया।
I swear on the life of the Lord who saves Israel, that even if it's my son Jonathan, he will have to die!” But no one of the whole army said anything.
40 तब उस ने सब इस्राईलियों से कहा, “तुम सब के सब एक तरफ़ हो जाओ, और मैं और मेरा बेटा यूनतन दूसरी तरफ़ हो जायेंगे।” लोगों ने साऊल से कहा, “जो तू मुनासिब जाने वह कर।”
Saul told them all, “You stand over to one side, and I and my son Jonathan will stand on the opposite side.” “Do what you think best,” the army replied.
41 तब साऊल ने ख़ुदावन्द इस्राईल के ख़ुदा से कहा, “हक़ को ज़ाहिर कर दे,” इसलिए पर्ची यूनतन और साऊल के नाम पर निकली, और लोग बच गए।
Saul prayed to the Lord, the God of Israel, “Let the Thummin show.” Jonathan and Saul were identified, while everyone else was cleared.
42 तब साऊल ने कहा कि “मेरे और मेरे बेटे यूनतन के नाम पर पर्ची डालो, तब यूनतन पकड़ा गया।”
Then Saul said, “Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan.” Jonathan was selected.
43 और साऊल ने यूनतन से कहा, “मुझे बता कि तूने क्या किया है?” यूनतन ने उसे बताया कि “मैंने बेशक अपने हाथ की लाठी के सिरे से ज़रा सा शहद चख्खा था इसलिए देख मुझे मरना होगा।”
“Tell me what you have done,” Saul asked Jonathan. “I just tasted a little honey with the end of my stick,” Jonathan told him. “Here I am, and I have to die.”
44 साऊल ने कहा, “ख़ुदा ऐसा ही बल्कि इससे भी ज़्यादा करे क्यूँकि ऐ यूनतन तू ज़रूर मारा जाएगा।”
Saul said, “May God punish me very severely if you do not die, Jonathan!”
45 तब लोगों ने साऊल से कहा, “क्या यूनतन मारा जाए, जिसने इस्राईल को ऐसा बड़ा छुटकारा दिया है ऐसा न होगा, ख़ुदावन्द की हयात की क़सम है कि उसके सर का एक बाल भी ज़मीन पर गिरने नहीं पाएगा क्यूँकि उसने आज ख़ुदा के साथ हो कर काम किया है।” इसलिए लोगों ने यूनतन को बचा लिया और वह मारा न गया।
But the people told Saul, “Does Jonathan have to die, the one who achieved this great victory in Israel? Absolutely not! We swear on the life of the Lord, not a single hair of his head will fall to the ground, for it was with God's help that he achieved this today.” The people saved Jonathan, and he didn't die.
46 और साऊल फ़िलिस्तियों का पीछा छोड़ कर लौट गया और फ़िलिस्ती अपने मक़ाम को चले गए
Saul stopped chasing down the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own country.
47 जब साऊल बनी इस्राईल पर बादशाहत करने लगा, तो वह हर तरफ़ अपने दुश्मनों या'नी मोआब और बनी 'अम्मून और अदोम और ज़ोबाह के बादशाहों और फ़िलिस्तियों से लड़ा और वह जिस जिस तरफ़ फिरता उनका बुरा हाल करता था।
After Saul had made his hold over Israel secure, he fought against all his enemies all around: Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Whatever direction he went he defeated them all.
48 और उसने बहादुरी करके अमालीक़ियों को मारा, और इस्राईलियों को उनके हाथ से छुड़ाया जो उनको लूटते थे।
He fought bravely, conquering the Amalekites, saving Israel from those who plundered them.
49 साऊल के बेटे यूनतन और इसवी और मलकीशू'अ थे; और उसकी दोनों बेटियों के नाम यह थे, बड़ी का नाम मेरब और छोटी का नाम मीकल था।
Saul's sons were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua. The names of his two daughters were Merab, (the firstborn), and Michal, (the younger one).
50 और साऊल कि बीवी का नाम अख़ीनु'अम था जो अख़ीमा'ज़ की बेटी थी, और उसकी फ़ौज के सरदार का नाम अबनेर था, जो साऊल के चचा नेर का बेटा था।
The name of his wife was Ahinoam, daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of Saul's army commander was Abner, son of Ner, and Ner was Saul's uncle.
51 और साऊल के बाप का नाम क़ीस था और अबनेर का बाप नेर अबीएल का बेटा था।
Saul's father Kish and Abner's father Ner were sons of Abiel.
52 और साऊल की ज़िन्दगी भर फ़िलिस्तियों से सख़्त जंग रही, इसलिए जब साऊल किसी ताक़तवर मर्द या सूरमा को देखता था तो उसे अपने पास रख लेता था।
Throughout Saul's lifetime there was constant war with the Philistines. Saul recruited into his army every strong warrior and every brave fighter that he met.
