Приповісті 2
1 Сину мій, якщо при́ймеш слова мої ти, а нака́зи мої при собі заховаєш,
My son, if thou receivest my words, and layest up my commandments with thee,
2 щоб слухало мудрости вухо твоє, своє серце прихи́лиш до розуму,
so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom [and] thou apply thy heart to understanding;
3 якщо до розсудку ти кликати будеш, до розуму кликатимеш своїм голосом,
yea, if thou criest after discernment [and] liftest up thy voice to understanding;
4 якщо бу́деш шукати його, немов срі́бла, і бу́деш його ти пошу́кувати, як тих схо́ваних ска́рбів, —
if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasures:
5 тоді зрозумієш страх Господній, і зна́йдеш ти Богопізна́ння, —
then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, and find the knowledge of God.
6 бо Господь дає мудрість, з Його уст — знання́ й розум!
For Jehovah giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding.
7 Він спасі́ння ховає для щирих, мов щит той для тих, хто в невинності ходить,
He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [he] is a shield to them that walk in integrity;
8 щоб справедливих стежо́к стерегти́, і береже́ Він дорогу Своїх богобі́йних!
guarding the paths of just judgment and keeping the way of his godly ones.
9 Тоді ти збагне́ш справедливість та право, і простоту́, всіляку доро́гу добра,
Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity: every good path.
10 бо мудрість уві́йде до серця твого́, і буде приємне знання́ для твоєї душі!
When wisdom entereth into thy heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul,
11 розва́жність тоді тебе пильнуватиме, розум тебе стерегти́ме,
discretion shall keep thee, understanding shall preserve thee:
12 щоб тебе врятувати від злої дороги, від люди́ни, що каже лукаве,
To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 від тих, хто стежки́ простоти́ покидає, щоб ходити доро́гами те́мряви,
[from those] who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 що ті́шаться, роблячи зло, що радіють круті́йствами злого,
who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of evil;
15 що стежки́ їхні круті, і відхо́дять своїми путя́ми, —
whose paths are crooked, and who are perverted in their course:
16 щоб тебе врятува́ти від блудни́ці, від чужи́нки, що мо́вить м'яке́нькі слова́,
To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words;
17 що покинула друга юна́цтва свого́, а про заповіт свого Бога забула, —
who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God;
18 вона бо із домом своїм западе́ться у смерть, а стежки́ її — до померлих,
— for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead;
19 ніхто́, хто входить до неї, не ве́рнеться, і сте́жки життя не дося́гне, —
none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:
20 щоб ходив ти дорогою добрих, і стежки́ справедливих беріг!
— that thou mayest walk in the way of the good, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21 Бо заме́шкають праведні землю, і невинні зоста́нуться в ній,
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it;
22 а безбожні з землі будуть ви́гублені, і повирива́ються з неї невірні!
but the wicked shall be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful shall be plucked up out of it.
