Йов 23
1 А Йов відповів та й сказав:
Then Job answered and said,
2 „Моя мова й сьогодні гірка́, — тяжче стражда́ння моє за стогна́ння мої.
Even to-day [is] my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3 О, якби то я знав, де Його я знайду́, то прийшов би до місця Його пробува́ння!
Oh that I knew where I might find him! [that] I might come [even] to his seat!
4 Я б перед обличчям Його свою справу поклав, а уста свої я напо́внив би до́водами, —
I would order [my] cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 розізнав би слова́, що́ мені відповість, і я зрозумів би, що́ скаже мені.
I would know the words [which] he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.
6 Чи зо мною на прю Він з великою силою стане? О ні, — тільки б увагу звернув Він на мене!
Would he plead against me with [his] great power? No; but he would put [strength] in me.
7 Справедливий судився б там з Ним, я ж наза́вжди б звільни́всь від свойого Судді.
There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
8 Та піду́ я на схід — і немає Його, а на за́хід удамся — Його не побачу,
Behold, I go forward, but he [is] not [there]; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
9 на півно́чі шукаю Його — й не вхоплю́, збо́чу на пі́вдень — і не добача́ю.
On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold [him]: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see [him]:
10 А Він знає дорогу, яка при мені, — хай би ви́пробував Він мене, — мов те золото, вийду!
But he knoweth the way that I take: [when] he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11 Трималась нога моя коло стопи́ Його, доро́ги Його я держа́вся й не збо́чив.
My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
12 Я не відступався від за́повідей Його губ, над уста́ву свою я ховав слова уст Його.
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary [food].
13 Але Він при одно́му, — й хто заве́рне Його? Як чого зажадає душа Його, — те Він учинить:
But he [is] in one [mind], and who can turn him? and [what] his soul desireth, even [that] he doeth.
14 бо Він ви́конає, що́ про мене призна́чив, і в Нього багато такого, як це!
For he performeth [the thing that is] appointed for me: and many such [things are] with him.
15 Тому перед обличчям Його я тремчу́, розважаю — й жахаюсь Його.
Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
16 А Бог пом'якши́в моє серце, і Всемогутній мене настраши́в,
For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:
17 бо не знищений я від темно́ти, ані від обличчя свого, що темність закрила його!
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, [neither] hath he covered the darkness from my face.
