1 І впав Йосип на лице батька свого, та й плакав над ним, і цілував його.
And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.
2 І звелів Йо́сип рабам своїм лікарям забальзамува́ти батька його. І забальзамува́ли ці лікарі Ізраїля.
And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3 І спо́внилося йому сорок день, бо так сповняються дні бальзамува́ння. І оплакував його Єгипет сімдеся́т день.
And they fulfilled for him forty days: for so they fulfill the days of those that are embalmed; and the Egyptians wept for him seventy days.
4 А як минули дні опла́кування його, то сказав Йосип до дому фараонового, говорячи: „Коли знайшов я ласку в очах ваших, то говоріть до ушей фараонових так:
And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5 „Батько мій заприсяг був мене, говорячи: „Ось я вмираю. У гробі моїм, що я собі викопав у Країні ханаанській, — там поховаєш мене“. А тепер нехай я піду́, і похова́ю батька свого, та й верну́ся“.
My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die; in my grave, which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me: now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and I will bury my father, and return again.
6 І сказав фараон: „Піди, і поховай свого батька, як заприсяг він тебе“.
And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, as he hath made thee swear.
7 І пішов Йо́сип поховати ба́тька свого, а з ним пішли всі раби фараонові, старші дому його, і всі старші́ єгипетського кра́ю,
And Joseph went up to bury his father, and there went up with him all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8 і ввесь дім Йо́сипів, і браття його, і дім батька його. Тільки дітей своїх та дрібну й велику худобу свою вони позоста́вили в кра́їні Ґошен.
And all the house of Joseph, and his brothers, and his father's house; only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left behind in the land of Goshen.
9 І вирушили з ним також колесни́ці та комо́нники. І був табір їх дуже великий.
And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen; and the encampment was very great.
10 І прийшли вони до Ґорен-Атаду, що по другім боці Йорда́ну, і плакали там великим та дуже ревним плаче́м... І він учинив ба́тькові своєму семиденну жало́бу.
And they came to the thrashing-floor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and they held there a great and very sore lamentation; and he made for his father a mourning of seven days.
11 І побачили мешканці того Краю, ханаанеяни, жало́бу в Ґорен-Атаді, та й сказали: „То сильна жало́ба для Єгипту!“Тому то кликнули ім'я́ його Авел-Міцраїм, що на тім боці Йордану.
And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the thrashing-floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians; wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizrayim, which is beyond the Jordan.
12 І вчинили йому сини його так, як він їм заповів був.
And his sons did unto him according as he had commanded them;
13 І поне́сли його сини його до ханаанського Кра́ю, та й поховали його в печері поля Махпели, яке поле купив був Авраа́м на володіння для гробу від хіттеянина Ефрона, навпроти Мамре́.
And his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which field Abraham bought for a possession, as a burying-place, of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.
14 А Йосип, як поховав він батька свого, вернувся до Єгипту, він і брати його, та всі, хто ходив з ним ховати батька його.
And Joseph returned unto Egypt, he, and his brothers, and all that were gone up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
15 І побачили Йо́сипові брати, що вмер їхній батько, та й сказали: „А що́ як знена́видить нас Йосип, і справді верне нам усе зло, що ми йому були́ заподіяли?“
And when Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, Peradventure Joseph may now hate us: and then he would certainly requite us all the evil which we have done unto him.
16 І переказали вони Йосипові, говорячи: „Батько твій заповів був перед своєю смертю, кажучи:
And they sent word unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before his death, saying,
17 Отак скажіть Йосипові: Прошу́, вибач гріх братів твоїх та їхню провину, бо вони тобі зло були́ заподіяли! А тепер вибач гріх рабам Бога батька твого!“І заплакав Йо́сип, як вони говорили до нього...
So shall ye say unto Joseph, O forgive, I pray thee, the trespass of thy brothers, and their sin; for evil have they done unto thee: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father; and Joseph wept when they spoke unto him.
18 І пішли також бра́ття його, і впали перед лицем його, та й сказали: „Ось ми тобі за рабів!“
And his brothers also went and fell down before him; and they said, Behold, we will be thy servants.
19 А Йо́сип промовив до них: „Не бійтеся, бо хіба ж я замість Бога?
And Joseph said unto them, Fear not; for am I in the place of God?
20 Ви заду́мували були́ на мене зло, та Бог заду́мав те на добре, щоб зробити, як вийшло сьогодні, — щоб заховати при житті великий наро́д!
But as for you, though ye thought evil against me, God meant it unto good; in order to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save alive a numerous people.
21 А тепер не лякайтеся, — я бу́ду утримувати вас та дітей ваших!“І він потішав їх, і промовляв до їхнього серця.
Now therefore fear ye not, I will support you, and your little ones; and he comforted them, and spoke kindly unto them.
22 І осівся Йо́сип в Єгипті, він та дім батька його. І жив Йосип сто і десять літ.
And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house; and Joseph lived one hundred and ten years.
23 І побачив Йо́сип в Єфрема дітей третього покоління. Також сини Махіра, сина Манасіїного, були народилися на Йосипові коліна.
And Joseph saw of Ephraim children of the third generation; the children also of Machir the son of Menasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.
24 І сказав Йо́сип до братів своїх: „Я вмираю, а Бог конче згадає вас, і виведе вас із цієї землі до Кра́ю, якого присягнув був Авраамові, Ісакові та Якову“.
And Joseph said unto his brothers, I shall die; but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land unto the land which he hath sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
25 І Йо́сип заприсяг Ізра́їлевих синів, гово́рячи: „Конче згадає Бог вас, а ви ви́несете звідси кості мої!“
And Joseph caused the children of Israel to swear, saying, God will surely visit you, and then shall ye carry up my bones from here.
26 І впоко́ївся Йо́сип у віці ста й десяти літ. І забальзамува́ли його, і він був покладений у труну в Єгипті.
So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
