1 І сталося по закінченні двох літ ча́су, і сниться фараонові, — ось він стоїть над Річкою.
After two years Pharao had a dream. He thought he stood by the river,
2 І ось виходять із Річки семеро корів гарного вигляду й ситого тіла, — і па́слися на лузі.
Out of which came up seven kine, very beautiful and fat: and they fed in marshy places.
3 А ось виходять із Річки за ними семеро корів інших, бридкі виглядом і худі тілом. І вони стали при тих коровах на березі Річки.
Other seven also came up out of the river, ill favoured, and leanfleshed: and they fed on the very bank of the river, in green places:
4 І корови бридкі́ виглядом і худі тілом поз'їда́ли сім корів гарних виглядом і ситих. І прокинувся фараон.
And they devoured them, whose bodies were very beautiful and well conditioned. So Pharao awoke.
5 І знову заснув він. І снилося йому вдруге, — аж ось сходять на однім стеблі семеро колосків здорових та добрих.
He slept again, and dreamed another dream: Seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk full and fair:
6 А ось виростає за ними семеро колосків тонких та спалених східнім вітром.
Then seven other ears sprung up thin and blasted,
7 І проковтнули ті тонкі́ колоски сім колосків здорових та повних. І прокинувся фараон, — а то був сон.
And devoured all the beauty of the former. Pharao awaked after his rest:
8 І сталося рано, — і занепоко́ївся дух його. І послав він, і поскликав усіх ворожбитів Єгипту та всіх мудреців його. І фараон розповів їм свій сон, — та ніхто не міг відгадати їх фараонові.
And when morning was come, being struck with fear, he sent to all the interpreters of Egypt, and to all the wise men: and they being called for, he told them his dream, and there was not any one that could interpret it.
9 І говорив начальник чашників з фараоном, кажучи: „Я сьогодні згадую гріхи свої.
Then at length the chief butler remembering, said: I confess my sin:
10 Розгнівався був фараон на рабів своїх, і вмістив мене під варту дому начальника царсько́ї сторожі, мене й начальника пекарів.
The king being angry with his servants, commanded me and the chief baker to be cast into the prison of the captain of the soldiers:
11 І однієї ночі снився нам сон, мені та йому, кожному снився сон за своїм зна́ченням.
Where in one night both of us dreamed a dream foreboding things to come.
12 А там з нами був єврейський юнак, раб начальника царської сторожі. І ми розповіли́ йому, а він відгадав нам наші сни, кожному за сном його відгадав.
There was there a young man a Hebrew, servant to the same captain of the soldiers: to whom we told our dreams,
13 І сталося, — як він відгадав нам, так і трапилося: мене ти вернув на становище моє, а того повісив“.
And we heard what afterwards the event of the thing proved to be so. For I was restored to my office: and he was hanged upon a gibbet.
14 І послав фараон, і покликав Йо́сипа, — і його сквапно вивели з в'язниці. І оголився, і змінив одежу свою, — і він прибув до фараона.
Forthwith at the king’s command, Joseph was brought out of the prison, and they shaved him, and changing his apparel, brought him in to him.
15 І промовив фараон до Йосипа: „Снився мені сон, та нема, хто б відгадав його. А я чув про тебе таке: ти вислухуєш сон, щоб відгадати його“.
And he said to him: I have dreamed dreams, and there is no one that can expound them: Now I have heard that thou art very wise at interpreting them.
16 А Йосип сказав до фараона, говорячи: „Не я, — Бог дасть у відповідь мир фараонові“.
Joseph answered: Without me, God shall give Pharao a prosperous answer.
17 І сказав фараон до Йосипа: „ Бачив я в сні своїм — ось я стою на березі Річки.
So Pharao told what he had dreamed: Methought I stood upon the bank of the river,
18 І ось виходять із Річки семеро корів ситих тілом і гарних виглядом. І вони па́слися на лузі.
And seven kine came up out of the river exceeding beautiful and full of flesh: and they grazed on green places in a marshy pasture.
19 А ось виходять за ними семеро корів інші, бідні та дуже бридкі виглядом і худі тілом. Таких бридки́х, як вони, я не бачив у всьому краї єгипетському.
And behold, there followed these, other seven kine, so very ill favoured and lean, that I never saw the like in the land of Egypt:
20 І корови худі та бридкі поз'їда́ли сім корів перших ситих.
And they devoured and consumed the former,
21 І ввійшли вони до черева їхнього, та не було знати, що ввійшли вони до черева їхнього, — і вигляд їх був лихий, як на початку. І я прокинувся.
And yet gave no mark of their being full: but were as lean and ill favoured as before. I awoke, and then fell asleep again,
22 І побачив я в сні своїм знов, аж ось сходять на однім стеблі семеро колосків повних та добрих.
And dreamed a dream: Seven ears of corn grew upon one stalk, full and very fair.
23 А ось виростає за ними семеро колосків худих, тонких, спалених східнім вітром.
Other seven also thin and blasted, sprung of the stock:
24 І проковтнули ті тонкі колоски сім колосків добрих. І розповів я те ворожбитам, та не було, хто б мені роз'яснив“.
And they devoured the beauty of the former: I told this dream to the conjecturers, and there is no man that can expound it.
25 І сказав Йо́сип до фараона: „Сон фараонів — один він. Що́ Бог робить, те Він звістив фараонові.
Joseph answered: The king’s dream is one: God hath shewn to Pharao what he is about to do.
26 Семеро корів добрих — то сім літ, і семеро колосків добрих — сім літ вони. А сон — один він.
The seven beautiful kine, and the seven full ears, are seven years of plenty: and both contain the same meaning of the dream.
27 А сім корів худих і бридки́х, що вийшли за ними, — сім літ вони, і сім колосків порожніх і спалених східнім вітром — то бу́дуть сім літ голодних.
And the seven lean and thin kine that came up after them, and the seven thin ears that were blasted with the burning wind, are seven years of famine to come:
28 Оце та річ, що я сказав був фараонові: Що́ Бог робить, те Він показав фараонові.
Which shall be fulfilled in this order:
29 Ось приходять сім літ, — великий достаток у всім краї єгипетськім.
Behold, there shall come seven years of great plenty in the whole land of Egypt:
30 А по них настануть сім літ голодних, — і буде забутий увесь той достаток в єгипетській землі, і голод винищить край.
After which shall follow other seven years of so great scarcity, that all the abundance before shall be forgotten: for the famine shall consume all the land,
31 І не буде видно того достатку в краї через той голод, що настане по́тім, бо він буде дуже тяжки́й.
And the greatness of the scarcity shall destroy the greatness of the plenty.
32 А що сон повторився фараонові двічі, це значить, що справа ця постановлена від Бога, і Бог незабаром виконає її.
And for that thou didst see the second time a dream pertaining to the same thing: it is a token of the certainty, and that the word of God cometh to pass, and is fulfilled speedily.
33 А тепер нехай фараон наздрить чоловіка розумного й мудрого, і нехай поставить його над єгипетською землею.
Now therefore let the king provide a wise and industrious man, and make him ruler over the land of Egypt:
34 Нехай учинить фараон, і нехай призна́чить урядників над краєм, і нехай за сім літ достатку збирає п'ятину врожаю єгипетської землі.
That he may appoint overseers over all the countries: and gather into barns the fifth part of the fruits, during the seven fruitful years,
35 І нехай вони позбирають усю їжу тих добрих років, що приходять, і нехай вони позбирають збіжжя під руку фараонову, на їжу по містах, і нехай бережуть.
That shall now presently ensue: and let all the corn be laid up under Pharao’s hands and be reserved in the cities.
36 І буде та їжа на запа́с для краю на сім літ голодних, що настануть в єгипетській землі, — і край не буде знищений голодом“.
And let it be in readiness, against the famine of seven years to come, which shall oppress Egypt, and the land shall not be consumed with scarcity.
37 І була ця річ добра в оча́х фараона та в очах усіх його рабів.
The counsel pleased Pharao and all his servants.
38 І сказав фараон своїм рабам: „Чи зна́йдеться чоловік, як оцей, що Дух Божий у нім?“
And he said to them: Can we find such another man, that is full of the spirit of God?
39 І сказав фараон Йосипові: „Що Бог відкрив тобі це все, то немає такого розумного й мудрого, як ти.
He said therefore to Joseph: Seeing God hath shewn thee all that thou hast said, can I find one wiser and one like unto thee?
40 Ти бу́деш над домом моїм, а слів твоїх уст буде слухатися ввесь наро́д мій. Тільки троном я буду вищий від тебе“.
Thou shalt be over my house, and at the commandment of thy mouth all the people shall obey: only in the kingly throne will I be above thee.
41 І сказав фараон Йо́сипові: „Дивись, — я поставив тебе над усім краєм єгипетським“.
And again Pharao said to Joseph: Behold, I have appointed thee over the whole land of Egypt.
42 І зняв фараон персня свого з своєї руки, та й дав його на руку Йо́сипову, і зодягнув його в одежу віссо́нну, а на шию йому повісив золотого ланцюга.
And he took his ring from his own hand, and gave it into his hand: and he put upon him a robe of silk, and put a chain of gold about his neck.
43 І зробив, що він їздив його другим по́возом, і кричали перед обличчям його: „Кланяйтеся!“І поставив його над усім єгипетським краєм.
And he made him go up into his second chariot, the crier proclaiming that all should bow their knee before him, and that they should know he was made governor over the whole land of Egypt.
44 І сказав фараон Йосипові: „Я фараон, а без тебе ніхто не підійме своєї руки та своєї ноги в усім краї єгипетськім“.
And the king said to Joseph: I am Pharao; without thy commandment no man shall move hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 І назвав фараон ім'я Йосипові: Цофнат-Панеах, і дав йому за жінку Оснату, дочку Поті-Фера, жерця Ону. І Йосип піднявся над єгипетським краєм.
And he turned his name, and called him in the Egyptian tongue, The saviour of the world. And he gave him to wife Aseneth the daughter of Putiphare priest of Heliopolis. Then Joseph went out to the land of Egypt:
46 А Йосип був віку тридцяти літ, коли він став перед лицем фараона, царя єгипетського. І пішов Йосип від лиця фараонового, і перейшов через увесь єгипетський край.
(Now he was thirty years old when he stood before king Pharao) and he went round all the countries of Egypt.
47 А земля в сім літ достатку родила на повні жмені.
And the fruitfulness of the seven years came: and the corn being bound up into sheaves was gathered together into the barns of Egypt.
48 І зібрав він усю їжу семи літ, що була в єгипетськім кра́ї, і вмістив їжу по містах: їжу поля міста, що навколо нього, вмістив у ньо́му.
And all the abundance of grain was laid up in every city.
49 І зібрав Йо́сип збіжжя дуже багато, як мо́рський пісок, аж перестав рахувати, бо не було вже числа.
And there was so great abundance of wheat, that it was equal to the sand of the sea, and the plenty exceeded measure.
50 А Йосипові, поки прийшов рік голодний, уродилися два сини, що вродила йому Осната, дочка Поті-Фера, жерця Ону.
And before the famine came, Joseph had two sons born: whom Aseneth the daughter of Putiphare priest of Heliopolis bore unto him.
51 І назвав Йо́сип ім'я́ перворідному: Манасі́я, бо „Бог зробив мені, що я забув усе своє терпіння та ввесь дім мого батька“.
And he called the name of the firstborn Manasses, saying: God hath made me to forget all my labours, and my father’s house.
52 А ймення другому назвав: Єфрем, бо „розмножив мене Бог у краї недолі моєї“.
And he named the second Ephraim, saying: God hath made me to grow in the land of my poverty.
53 І скінчи́лися сім літ достатку, що були в єгипетськім краї.
Now when the seven years of the plenty that had been in Egypt were past:
54 І зачали наступати сім літ голодні, як сказав був Йосип. І був голод по всіх краях, а в усім єгипетськім краї був хліб.
The seven years of scarcity, which Joseph had foretold, began to come: and the famine prevailed in the whole world, but there was bread in all the land of Egypt.
55 Але виголоднів увесь єгипетський край, а наро́д став кричати до фараона про хліб. І сказав фараон усьому Єгиптові: „Ідіть до Йосипа. Що́ він вам скаже, те робіть“.
And when there also they began to be famished, the people cried to Pharao for food. And he said to them: Go to Joseph: and do all that he shall say to you.
56 І був той голод на всій поверхні землі. І відчинив Йосип усе, що було́ в них, і продавав поживу Єгиптові. А голод зміцнявся в єгипетськім краї.
And the famine increased daily in all the land: and Joseph opened all the barns, and sold to the Egyptians: for the famine had oppressed them also.
57 І прибували зо всієї землі до Йосипа купити поживи, бо голод зміцнявся по всій землі.
And all provinces came into Egypt, to buy food, and to seek some relief of their want.
