Буття 4
1 І пізнав Адам Єву, жінку свою, і вона завагітніла, і породила Каїна, і сказала: „Набула чоловіка від Господа“.
Afterward the man knew Heuah his wife, which conceiued and bare Kain, and said, I haue obteined a man by the Lord.
2 А далі вона породила брата йому Авеля. І був Авель пастух отари, а Каїн був рільник.
And againe she brought foorth his brother Habel, and Habel was a keeper of sheepe, and Kain was a tiller of the ground.
3 І сталось по деякім часі, і приніс Каїн Богові жертву від плоду землі.
And in processe of time it came to passe, that Kain brought an oblation vnto the Lord of the fruite of the ground.
4 А Авель, — він також приніс від своїх перворідних з отари та від їхнього лою. І зглянувся Господь на Авеля й на жертву його,
And Habel also him selfe brought of the first fruites of his sheepe, and of the fat of them, and the Lord had respect vnto Habel, and to his offering,
5 а на Каїна й на жертву його не зглянувся. І сильно розгнівався Каїн, і обличчя його похилилось.
But vnto Kain and to his offering he had no regarde: wherefore Kain was exceeding wroth, and his countenance fell downe.
6 І сказав Господь Каїнові: „Чого ти розгнівався, і чого похилилось обличчя твоє?
Then ye Lord said vnto Kain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance cast downe?
7 Отож, коли ти добре робитимеш, то підіймеш обличчя своє, а коли недобре, то в дверях гріх підстерігає. І до тебе його пожада́ння, а ти мусиш над ним панувати“.
If thou do well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sinne lieth at the doore: also vnto thee his desire shalbe subiect, and thou shalt rule ouer him.
8 І говорив Каїн до Авеля, брата свого. І сталось, як були вони в полі, повстав Каїн на Авеля, брата свого, — і вбив його.
Then Kain spake to Habel his brother. And when they were in the fielde, Kain rose vp against Habel his brother, and slewe him.
9 І сказав Господь Каїнові: „Де Авель, твій брат?“А той відказав: „Не знаю. Чи я сторож брата свого́?“
Then the Lord said vnto Kain, Where is Habel thy brother? Who answered, I cannot tell. Am I my brothers keeper?
10 І сказав Господь: „Що́ ти зробив? Голос крови брата твого взиває до Мене з землі.
Againe he said, What hast thou done? the voyce of thy brothers blood cryeth vnto me from the earth.
11 А тепер ти прокля́тий від землі, що розкрила уста свої, щоб прийняти кров твого брата з твоєї руки.
Now therefore thou art cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receiue thy brothers blood from thine hand.
12 Коли бу́деш ти порати землю, вона більше не дасть тобі сили своєї. Мандрівником та заволокою будеш ти на землі“.
When thou shalt till the grounde, it shall not henceforth yeelde vnto thee her strength: a vagabond and a runnagate shalt thou be in the earth.
13 І сказав Каїн до Господа: „Більший мій гріх, аніж можна знести.
Then Kain said to the Lord, My punishment is greater, then I can beare.
14 Ось Ти виганяєш сьогодні мене з цієї землі, і я буду ховатись від лиця Твого. І я стану мандрівником та заволокою на землі, і буде, — кожен, хто стріне мене, той уб'є мене“.
Behold, thou hast cast me out this day from the earth, and from thy face shall I be hid, and shalbe a vagabond, and a runnagate in the earth, and whosoeuer findeth me, shall slay me.
15 І промовив до нього Господь: „Через те кожен, хто вб'є Каїна, семикратно буде пімщений“. І вмістив Господь знака на Каїні, щоб не вбив його кожен, хто стріне його.
Then the Lord said vnto him, Doubtlesse whosoeuer slayeth Kain, he shalbe punished seue folde. And the Lord set a marke vpon Kain, lest any man finding him should kill him.
16 І вийшов Каїн з-перед лиця Господнього, й осів у країні Нод, на схід від Едену.
Then Kain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod towarde the Eastside of Eden.
17 І Каїн пізнав свою жінку, і стала вона вагітна, і вродила Еноха. І збудував він місто, і назвав ім'я́ тому містові, як ім'я́ свого сина: Енох.
Kain also knewe his wife, which conceiued and bare Henoch: and he built a citie, and called the name of the citie by ye name of his sonne, Henoch.
18 І народився в Еноха Ірад, а Ірад породив Мегуяїла, а Мегуяїл породив Метушаїла, а Метушаїл породив Ламеха.
And to Henoch was borne Irad, and Irad begate Mehuiael, and Mehuiael begate Methushael, and Methushael begate Lamech.
19 І взяв собі Ламех дві жінки, — ім'я одній Ада, а ймення другій Цілла.
And Lamech tooke him two wiues: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 І породила Ада Явала, — він був батьком тих, що сидять по наметах і мають череду.
And Adah bare Iabal, who was the father of such as dwell in the tents, and of such as haue cattell.
21 А ймення брата його Ювал, — він був батьком усім, хто держить у рука́х гусла й сопілку.
And his brothers name was Iubal, who was the father of all that play on the harpe and organes.
22 А Цілла також породила Тувалкаїна, що кував всіляку мідь та залізо. А сестра Тувалкаїнова Ноема́.
And Zillah also bare Tubal-kain, who wrought cunningly euery craft of brasse and of yron: and the sister of Tubal-kain was Naamah.
23 І промовив Ламех до жінок своїх: „Адо й Цілло, послухайте ви мого голосу, жони Ламехові, почуйте ви сло́ва мого! Бо якби я мужа забив за уразу свою, а дитину — за рану свою,
Then Lamech saide vnto his wiues Adah and Zillah, Heare my voyce, ye wiues of Lamech: hearken vnto my speach: for I would slay a man in my wound, and a yong man in mine hurt.
24 і як буде усемеро пімщений Каїн, то Ламех — у сімдесятеро й семеро!“
If Kain shalbe auenged seuen folde, truely Lamech, seuentie times seuen folde.
25 І пізнав Адам ще свою жінку, — і сина вона породила. І назвала ймення йому: Сиф, бо „Бог дав мені інше насіння за Авеля, що забив його Каїн“.
And Adam knewe his wife againe, and she bare a sonne, and she called his name Sheth: for God, saide she, hath appointed me another seede for Habel, because Kain slewe him.
26 А Сифові теж народився був син, і він назвав імення йому: Енош. Тоді зачали були призивати Ймення Господнє.
And to ye same Sheth also there was borne a sonne, and he called his name Enosh. Then beganne men to call vpon the name of the Lord.
