1 Отож, сину мій, зміцняйся в благода́ті, що в Христі Ісусі вона!
Yoʋ then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 А що чув ти від мене при багатьо́х свідках, те передай вірним лю́дям, що будуть спроможні й інших навчити.
Entrust what yoʋ have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses to faithful men who will be competent to teach others also.
3 А ти терпи лихо, як добрий воя́к Христа Ісуса!
Endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 Бо жоден воя́к не в'яжеться в справи життя, аби догодити тому, хто ві́йсько збирає.
No one serving as a soldier entangles himself in the affairs of civilian life, since he seeks to please the one who enlisted him.
5 А як хто йде на зма́ги, то вінка́ не одержує, якщо незако́нно змага́ється.
Similarly, an athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
6 Трудящому хліборо́бові нале́житься першому покуштувати з плоду.
The hardworking farmer ought to receive the first share of the crops.
7 Розумій, що́ я говорю́. А Госпо́дь нехай дасть тобі розум у всьому.
Think about what I am saying. May the Lord give yoʋ understanding in everything.
8 Пам'ятай про Ісуса Христа з насіння Дави́дового, що воскрес із мертвих, за моєю Єва́нгелією,
Remember Jesus Christ, the offspring of David, who was raised from the dead according to my gospel.
9 за яку я терплю́ муки аж до ув'я́знення, як той злочи́нець. Але Сло́ва Божого не ув'язни́ти!
For this gospel I suffer to the point of being chained like a criminal, but the word of God is not chained.
10 Через це перено́шу я все ради ви́браних, щоб і вони доступили спасі́ння, що в Христі Ісусі, зо славою вічною. (aiōnios g166)
Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. (aiōnios g166)
11 Вірне слово: коли ра́зом із Ним ми померли, то й жи́тимемо ра́зом із Ним!
This saying is trustworthy: If we died with him, we will also live with him;
12 А коли терпимо́, то будемо ра́зом тако́ж царюва́ти. А коли відцураємось, то й Він відцурається нас!
if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;
13 А коли ми невірні, зостається Він вірним, бо не може зректися Само́го Себе!
if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful; he cannot deny himself.
14 Нагадуй про це й заклинай перед Богом, щоб не спереча́лись словами, бо ніна́що воно, хіба слухача́м на руїну.
Remind the people of these things, solemnly charging them before the Lord not to quarrel about words, which does no good but only leads to the ruin of those who are listening.
15 Силку́йся поставити себе перед Богом гідним, працівнико́м бездоганним, що вірно навчає науки правди.
Be diligent to present yoʋrself to God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly teaches the word of truth.
16 Стережися ж базі́кань марни́х, бо вони ще більше провадять до безбожности,
Avoid profane chatter, for those who engage in such talk will stray further and further into ungodliness,
17 а їхнє слово, як рак, буде ши́ритися. Від таких Гімене́й і Філі́т,
and their message will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 що вони погрішилися в правді, казавши, що воскресі́ння було вже, і віру деяких руйнують.
who have strayed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are undermining the faith of some.
19 Та однако стоїть міцна́ Божа основа та має печатку оцю: „Господь знає тих, хто Його“, та: „Нехай від неправди відсту́питься всякий, хто Господнє Ім'я́ називає!“
Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord must depart from unrighteousness.”
20 А в великому домі знахо́диться по́суд не тільки золотий та срібний, але й дерев'яний та гли́няний, і одні посу́дини на честь, а другі на не́честь.
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for honorable use and some for dishonorable use.
21 Отож, хто від цього очистить себе, буде по́суд на честь, освя́чений, потрібний Володареві, приготова́ний на всяке добре ді́ло.
Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master, and prepared for every good work.
22 Стережися молодечих пожадли́востей, трима́йся праведности, віри, любови, миру з тими, хто Господа кличе від чистого серця.
Flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.
23 А від нерозумних та від невче́них змага́нь ухиляйся, знавши, що вони родять сварки́.
Have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant controversies, knowing that they breed quarrels.
24 А раб Господній не повинен свари́тись, але бути привітним до всіх, навча́льним, до ли́ха терпля́чим,
A servant of the Lord ought not to quarrel, but to be kind to everyone, able to teach, and patient,
25 що навчав би противників із ла́гідністю, чи Бог їм не дасть покая́ння, щоб правду пізнати,
instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth.
26 щоб визволитися від сітки диявола, що він уловив їх для ро́блення волі своєї.
Then they will come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
