2 Самуїлова 17
1 І сказав Ахіто́фел до Авесалома: „Виберу я дванадцять тисяч чоловіка, і встану, і поженуся цієї ночі за Давидом.
Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
2 І нападу́ я на нього, а він зму́чений та слабоси́лий, і він затремтить, — і повтікає ввесь народ, що з ним, а я вб'ю й самого царя.
And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
3 І наверну́ я ввесь народ до те́бе; як не буде чоловіка, якого душі́ ти шукаєш, то ввесь наро́д буде мати мир“.
And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.
4 І була люба ця річ в оча́х Авесалома та в оча́х усіх Ізраїлевих старши́х.
And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5 І сказав Авесалом: „Поклич теж аркеянина Хуша́я, та нехай послухаємо, що в устах його, — нехай скаже також він“.
Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
6 І прийшов Хушай до Авесалома, а Авесалом сказав до нього, говорячи: „Отак говорив Ахітофел. Чи виконаємо слова́ його? Якщо ні, говори ти“.
And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.
7 І сказав Хушай до Авесалома: „Не добра та рада, яку цього ра́зу радив Ахітофел“.
And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.
8 І сказав Хушай: „Ти знаєш батька свого та людей його, що вони ли́царі, та розлю́чені вони, як медве́диця, позба́влена на полі дітей. А батько твій воя́к, і не буде ночувати з народом.
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9 Ось тепер він ховається в одній з ям, або в іншому місці. І коли б сталося, що хтось упаде́ серед них, нападаючих, напоча́тку, а хтобудь почує та скаже: Сталася пора́зка в народі, який за Авесаломом,
Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
10 а хоча б він і хоробрий, якого серце — як серце ле́в'яче, то справді ослабне, бо ввесь Ізраїль знає, що батько твій ли́цар і хоробрі ті, що з ним.
And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.
11 Тому ра́джу я: нехай конче збереться до тебе ввесь Ізра́їль від Дана й аж до Беер-Шеви, многото́ю як пісок, що над морем, і ти сам пі́деш до бо́ю.
Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12 І при́йдемо ми проти нього в одне з місць, та й нападемо на нього, як падає роса́ на землю, і не позоставимо ані при нім, ані між усіма людьми́, що з ним, ані одно́го.
So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
13 А якщо він збереться до якого міста, то ввесь Ізраїль занесе́ на те місто шну́ри, та й потя́гнемо його аж до потоку, так, що не зали́шиться там ані камінчика“.
Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
14 І сказав Авесалом та всі Ізраїлеві мужі: „Ліпша рада аркеянина Хушая від ради Ахітофелової!“Бо це Господь наказав зламати добру Ахітофелову раду, щоб Господь приніс зло на Авесалома.
And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For YHWH had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that YHWH might bring evil upon Absalom.
15 І сказав Хушай до священиків Садо́ка та Евіятара: „Так і так радив Ахітофел Авесаломові та Ізраїлевим старши́м, а я радив так і так.
Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
16 А тепер швидко пошліть і донесіть Давидові, говорячи: Не ночуй цієї ночі в степа́х пустині, але конче перейди на той бік, щоб не був погли́нутий цар та ввесь народ, що з ним“.
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
17 А Йонатан та Ахіма́ац стояли в Ен-Роґелі. І пішла невільниця й розповіла́ їм, а вони пішли й доне́сли цареві Давидові, бо не могли ані показатися, ані ввійти до міста.
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
18 Та їх побачив один юна́к та й доніс Авесаломові. І вони оби́двоє швидко пішли, та й увійшли до дому чоловіка в Бахурімі, що мав колодязя на своїм подвір'ї, і спусти́лися туди.
Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.
19 А жінка тая взяла́ й розтягла́ заслону на верху́ колодязя, і розложила на ньому зе́рна, — і нічого не було пі́знано.
And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.
20 І прийшли Авесаломові раби до тієї жінки до дому та й сказали: „Де Ахіма́ац та Йонатан?“А жінка та їм сказала: „Перейшли́ через во́ду“. І ті шукали й не знайшли, та й вернулися до Єрусалиму.
And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21 І сталося по їхньому відхо́ді, вони вийшли з колодязя, і пішли та доне́сли Давидові. І сказали вони до Давида: „Уставайте, і перехо́дьте швидко во́ду, бо отак радив на вас Ахітофел“.
And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
22 І повставали Давид та ввесь народ, що з ним, та до ра́нішнього світла перейшли Йордан, і не позоста́лося ані одно́го, що не перейшов би Йорда́ну.
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
23 А коли Ахітофел побачив, що порада його не виконана, то осідлав осла, і встав та й пішов до свого дому, до свого міста. І він зарядив про дім свій, та й повісився, і помер, і був похований у гро́бі свого батька...
And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and got him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24 А Давид прийшов до Маханаїму, а Авесалом перейшов Йордан, він та всі Ізраїлеві мужі із ним.
Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25 І Авесалом настанови́в над військом Амасу замість Йоава. А Амаса був син чоловіка, що ім'я́ йому Їтра, їзрееліт, який увійшов був до Авіґаїл, дочки́ Нахашової, сестри Церуї, Йоавиної матері.
And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man's son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab's mother.
26 І таборува́в Ізраїль та Авесалом у ґілеадському кра́ї.
So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
27 І сталося, коли Давид прийшов до Маханаїму, то Шові, Нахашів син з аммонітської Рабби, і Махір, Амміелів син з Ло-Девару, і ґілеадянин Барзіллай з Роґеліму
And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28 поприносили посте́лі, і чаші, і ганча́рський по́суд, і пшениці, і ячменю, і муки, і пра́женого зе́рна,
Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,
29 і меду, і масла, і худобу дрібну́, і товщу з худоби великої, — для Давида та для народу, що з ним, щоб їли, бо сказали: „Цей народ голодний і зму́чений та спра́гнений у пустині“.
And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
