1 І сталося по то́му, і помер цар аммонітський, а замість нього зацарював син його Гану́н.
And it was after thus and he died [the] king of [the] people of Ammon and he reigned Hanun son his in place his.
2 І сказав Давид: „Зроблю́ я ласку Ганунові, Нахашевому синові, як батько його зробив був ласку мені“. І послав Давид, щоб його пора́дувати, щодо батька його, через своїх рабів. І прибули́ Давидові раби до аммонітського краю.
And he said David I will do covenant loyalty - with Hanun [the] son of Nahash just as he did father his with me covenant loyalty and he sent David to comfort him by [the] hand of servants his concerning father his and they came [the] servants of David [the] land of [the] people of Ammon.
3 А аммонітські князі сказали до пана свого Гануна: „Чи Давид шанує батька твого́ в оча́х твоїх тим, що послав тобі потіши́телів? Чи ж Давид послав до тебе своїх слуг не на те, щоб оглянули місто та щоб його ви́відати, а потім зни́щити його?“
And they said [the] leaders of [the] people of Ammon to Hanun lord their ¿ honoring [is] David father your in view your for he has sent to you comforters ¿ not in order to explore the city and to spy on it and to overthrow it has he sent David servants his to you.
4 І взяв Гану́н Давидових слуг, та й оголив половину їхньої бороди́, та обрізав їхню одежу на полови́ну, аж до сиді́ння їх, та й відпусти́в їх.
And he took Hanun [the] servants of David and he shaved half of beard their and he cut off robes their at the middle to buttocks their and he sent away them.
5 І доне́сли про це Давидові, а він послав назу́стріч їм, бо ті му́жі були дуже осоро́млені. І цар їм сказав: „Сидіть в Єрихоні, аж поки відросте́ вам борода́, потім пове́рнетесь“.
And people told to David and he sent to meet them for they were the men humiliated very and he said the king remain at Jericho until it will grow back beard your and you will return.
6 І побачили аммоні́тяни, що вони зненави́джені в Давида. І аммонітяни послали й найняли́ Арам -Бет-Рехову й Арам-Цови, двадцять тисяч піхоти́нців, та царя Маахи, тисячу чоловіка, і тов'ян дванадцять тисяч чоловіка.
And they saw [the] people of Ammon that they had made themselves odious with David and they sent [the] people of Ammon and they hired Aram Beth Rehob and Aram Zobah twenty thousand foot soldier[s] and [the] king of Maacah one thousand man and [the] man of Tob two [plus] ten thousand man.
7 А коли Давид прочу́в про це, то послав Йоава та все лица́рське військо.
And he heard David and he sent Joab and all the army the warriors.
8 І повихо́дили аммоні́тяни, і встанови́лися до бо́ю при вході до брами. А Арам-Цова, і Рехов, і Тов'янин, і Мааха, — вони самі були на полі.
And they went out [the] people of Ammon and they deployed battle [the] entrance of the gate and Aram Zobah and Rehob and [the] man of Tob and Maacah to alone them [were] in the open country.
9 І побачив Йоа́в, що бойови́й фронт звернений на нього спе́реду та поза́ду, то вибрав Ізраїлевих ви́браних, та й установи́в їх навпро́ти Ара́ма.
And he saw Joab that it was against him [the] face of the battle from before and from behind and he chose some of all [the] chosen [men] (of Israel *Q(K)*) and he deployed [them] to meet Aram.
10 А решту наро́ду дав під руку свого брата Авшая, і встановив навпроти аммонітян,
And [the] rest of the people he put in [the] hand of Abishai brother his and he deployed [them] to meet [the] people of Ammon.
11 і сказав: „Якщо Ара́м бу́де сильніший від мене, то будеш мені на поміч, а якщо аммонітяни бу́дуть сильніші від те́бе, то я піду́ допомага́ти тобі.
And he said if it will be [too] strong Aram for me and you will become of me deliverance and if [the] people of Ammon they will be [too] strong for you and I will come to deliver you.
12 Будь му́жній, і станьмо міцно за наро́д наш та за міста нашого Бога, а Госпо́дь нехай зро́бить, що добре в оча́х Його!“
Be strong so we may show ourselves strong for people our and for [the] cities of God our and Yahweh he will do the good in view his.
13 А коли Йоав та народ, що був із ним, підійшли́ на бій з Арамом, то ті повтіка́ли перед ним.
And he drew near Joab and the people which [was] with him for battle in Aram and they fled from before him.
14 А аммонітяни побачили, що втік Арам, то й вони повтікали перед Авішаєм, і ввійшли до міста. І верну́вся Йоав від аммонітян і ввійшов до Єрусалиму.
And [the] people of Ammon they saw that it had fled Aram and they fled from before Abishai and they went the city and he returned Joab from on [the] people of Ammon and he came Jerusalem.
15 А коли побачив Арам, що він побитий Ізраїлем, то вони позбиралися ра́зом.
And it saw Aram that it was defeated before Israel and they gathered themselves together.
16 І послав Гадад'езер, і вивів Арама, що з другого боку Річки, і ввійшли вони до Гела́му. А Шовах, провідни́к Гадад'езерового ві́йська, був перед ними.
And he sent Hadadezer and he brought out Aram which [was] from [the] other side of the River and they came Helam and Shobach [the] commander of [the] army of Hadadezer [was] before them.
17 І було́ доне́сено Давидові, і він зібрав усього Ізраїля, і перейшов Йордан, та прийшов до Геламу. А Арам установився навпроти Давида, і воював із ним.
And it was told to David. And he gathered all Israel and he passed over the Jordan and he came Helam towards and they deployed Aram to meet David and they did battle with him.
18 І побіг Арам перед Ізраїлем, а Давид повбивав з Араму сім сотень колесни́ць та сорок тисяч верхівці́в. І вбив він Шоваха, зверхника ві́йська його, і той там помер.
And it fled Aram from before Israel and he killed David of Aram seven hundred charioteer[s] and forty thousand horsemen and Shobach [the] commander of army its he struck down and he died there.
19 А коли всі царі, підле́глі Гадад'езера, побачили, що вони побиті Ізраїлем, то замири́лися з Ізраїлем, і служили йому. І Арам уже боявся допомагати аммоні́тянам.
And they saw all the kings [the] servants of Hadadezer that they were defeated before Israel and they made peace with Israel and they served them and they were afraid Aram to deliver again [the] people of Ammon.
