1 Сьомого року Єгу зацарював Єгоаш, і сорок років царював він в Єрусалимі. А ім'я́ його матері — Ців'я, з Беер-Шеви.
In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
2 І робив Єгоаш угодне в Господніх оча́х по всі дні, коли вказував йому священик Єгояда.
And Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
3 Тільки па́гірки не були понищені, — народ ще прино́сив жертви та кадив на па́гірках.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and offered in the high places.
4 І сказав Єгоаш до священика: „Усе посвячене срібло, що буде вне́сене до Господнього дому, срібло перелічених людей, срібло за душі за вартістю їх, усе срібло, скільки люди́ні спаде́ на серце прине́сти до Господнього дому,
And Jehoash said to the priests: 'All the money of the hallowed things that is brought into the house of the LORD, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
5 ві́зьмуть собі священики, кожен від знайо́мого свого, і вони зро́блять напра́ву Господнього дому в усьому, що буде зна́йдене там на напра́ву.
let the priests take it to them, every man from him that bestoweth it upon him; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.'
6 І сталося двадцятого й третього року царя Єгоаша, священики не напра́вили ушкодження храму.
But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
7 І покликав цар Єгоаш священика Єгояду й священиків, та й сказав їм: „Чому ви не направля́єте ушкодження храму? А тепер не беріть срібла від ваших знайо́мих, а на напра́ву ушкодження храму віддасте́ його“.
Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said unto them: 'Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore take no longer money from them that bestow it upon you, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.'
8 І погоди́лися священики не брати срібла від народу, і не направля́ти ушкодження храму.
And the priests consented that they should take no longer money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.
9 І взяв священик Єгояда одну скриньку, і продовба́в дірку на віку її, і поставив її при же́ртівнику право́руч, як входити до Господнього дому. І давали туди священики, що стерегли́ порога, усе срібло, що прино́силося до Господнього дому.
And Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD; and the priests that kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
10 І бувало, як вони бачили, що намно́жилося те срібло в скрині, то прихо́див царськи́й писар та великий священик, і вони в'язали в мішки та рахували срібло, знайдене в Господньому домі.
And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
11 I давали те перелічене срібло на руки робітника́м праці, поставленим до Господнього дому, а вони давали його те́слям та будівни́чим, що робили в Господньому домі.
And they gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
12 І муляра́м, і каменяра́м, і на за́куп де́рева та те́саного каменя, та на направу ушко́дження Господнього дому, та на все, що йшло на храм для направи.
and to the masons and the hewers of stone, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
13 Тільки не робилися для Господнього дому срібні чаші, ножиці, кропи́льниці, су́рми, усяка річ золота та річ срібна з того срібла, що прино́силося до Господнього дому,
But there were not made for the house of the LORD cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD;
14 бо його давали робітника́м праці та направляли ним дім Господній.
for they gave that to them that did the work, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.
15 І не облічували тих людей, яким давали те срібло до їхніх рук, щоб вони давали робітника́м праці, бо ті робили чесно.
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to give to them that did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
16 Срібло ж жертви за провину та жертов за гріх не вно́силося до Господнього дому, — воно було для священиків.
The forfeit money, and the sin money, was not brought into the house of the LORD; it was the priests.
17 Вийшов тоді Газаїл, сирійський цар, та й воював з Ґатом, — і здобув його. І намірився Газаїл іти на Єрусалим.
Then Hazael king of Aram went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
18 І взяв Єгоаш, Юдин цар, усі святі речі, що присвятили були Йосафа́т, і Єгорам, і Ахазія, батьки́ його, царі Юдині, та святі речі свої, і все золото, що знайшлося в скарбни́цях Господнього дому та дому царсько́го, та й послав Газаїлові, цареві сирійському, — і той відійшов від Єрусалиму...
And Jehoash king Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Aram; and he went away from Jerusalem.
19 А решта діл Йоаша, і все, що́ він зробив, — он вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Юдиних царів.
Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
20 І встали його слуги, і вчинили змову, та й забили Йоаша в Бет-Мілло, де йдеться до Сілли.
And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and smote Joash at Beth-millo, on the way that goeth down to Silla.
21 Йозахар, Шім'атів син, та Єгозавад, Шомерів син, його слуги, забили його, і він помер. І поховали його з батька́ми його в Давидовім Місті, а замість нього зацарював син його Амаці́я.
For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David; and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
