1 Самуїлова 27
1 І сказав Давид у серці своїм: „Колись я попадуся в Саулову руку. Нема мені ліпшого, як, утікаючи, утечу́ до филистимського кра́ю, — і відмовиться від мене Саул, щоб шукати мене вже по всій Ізраїлевій країні, і я втечу́ від руки його“.
And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me to seek me any more within all the limits of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.
2 І встав Давид, і перейшов він та шість сотень чоловіка, що з ним, до Ахіша, Маохового сина, ґатського царя.
And David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men that were with him, to Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 І осівся Давид з Ахі́шем у Ґаті, він та люди його, кожен із домом своїм, Давид та дві жінки його: ізреелі́тка Ахіно́ан та Авіґа́їл, коли́шня жінка Нава́лова, кармелі́тка.
And David abode with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household; David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jizreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.
4 І донесено Саулові, що Давид утік до Ґату, і він більш уже не шукав його.
And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; and he sought no more for him.
5 А Давид сказав до Ахіша: „Якщо я знайшов милість в оча́х твоїх, нехай дадуть мені місце в одному з міст цієї землі, і нехай я осяду там. І чого сидітиме раб твій у місті твого царства ра́зом із тобою?“
And David said to Achish, If now I have found favour in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some country-town, that I may abide there; for why should thy servant abide in the royal city with thee?
6 І дав йому Ахіш того дня Ціклаґ, чому належить Ціклаґ Юдиним царя́м аж до цього дня.
And Achish gave him Ziklag that day; therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.
7 А число днів, що Давид сидів на филистимській землі, було рік та чотири місяці.
And the time that David abode in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.
8 І схо́див Давид та люди його, і напада́ли на Ґешуреянина, і на Ґірзеянина, і на Амаликитянина, бо вони ме́шканці цього кра́ю відвіку, аж доти, як іти до Шуру, і аж до єгипетського краю.
And David and his men went up and made a raid upon the Geshurites, and the Gerzites, and the Amalekites: for those were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, and as far as the land of Egypt.
9 І побивав Давид той край, і не лишав при житті ані чоловіка, ані жінки, і забирав худобу дрібну́ та худобу велику, і осли, і верблю́ди, і одежу, — і вертався, і прихо́див до Ахіша.
And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
10 І питався Ахіш: „На ко́го нападали ви сьогодні?“А Давид казав: „На пі́вдень Юдин, і на пі́вдень Єрахмеелеянина, і на пі́вдень Кенеянина“.
So Achish said, Have ye not made a raid to-day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
11 А Давид не лишав при житті ані чоловіка, ані жінки, щоб приве́сти до Ґату, говорячи: „Щоб не доне́сли на нас, кажучи: Так зробив Давид, і такий його зви́чай по всі дні, коли сидів на филистимській землі“.
And David left neither man nor woman alive, to bring [them] to Gath, for he said, Lest they should tell of us, saying, So did David. And such was his custom as long as he abode in the country of the Philistines.
12 І вірив Ахіш Давидові, говорячи: „Справді обри́днув він своєму народові в Ізраїлі, і буде мені за вічного раба!“
And Achish trusted David, saying, He has made himself utterly odious among his people Israel; and he shall be my servant for ever.
