1 Віра ж єсть підстава того, на що вповаємо, доказ (певність) річей невидимих.
Now faith is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see.
2 Через неї бо були сьвідчені старі.
For by this, the people of old were attested.
By faith, we understand that the ages were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible. (aiōn g165)
4 Вірою приніс Авель луччу жертву Богу нїж Каїн, через котру сьвідчено (йому), що він праведний, як сьвідкував про дари його Бог; нею він, і вмерши, ще говорить.
By faith, Habeil offered to God a better sacrifice than Qayen, through which he was attested as righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and though he died he still speaks through it.
5 Вірою Єнох перенесен, щоб не бачити смерти, і "не знайдено його, бо переніс його Бог": перед перенесеннєм бо його сьвідчено, "що угодив Богу".
By faith, Khenuk was taken away, so that he would not see death, "and he was not found, because God took him away." For before he was taken he was attested as having pleased God.
6 Без віри ж не можна угодити, вірувати мусить бо, хто приходить до Бога, що Він єсть, і хто Його шукає тих нагороджує.
Now without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
7 Вірою, звістку прийнявши Ной про те, чого ніколи не видано, в страсї (Божому) збудовав ковчег на спасеннє дому свого, котрим осудив сьвіт, і став ся наслїдником праведности, по вірі.
By faith, Nukh, being warned about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared a box-shaped ship for the salvation of his household, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
8 Вірою, покликаний Авраам, послухав, щоб вийти на те місце, котре мав прийняти в наслїддє, і вийшов, не знаючи, куди йде.
By faith, Avraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.
9 Вірою оселивсь у землї обітуваній, яко чужій, живучи в наметах, з Ісааком і Яковом, спільними наслїдниками того ж обітування.
By faith, he sojourned in a land of promise, as a foreigner, living in tents with Iskhaq and Yaquv, the heirs with him of the same promise.
10 Дожидав бо города, що має основини, котрого будівничий і творець Бог.
For he looked for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
11 Вірою і сама Сарра прийняла силу на зачаттє насіння і мимо пори віку вродила, тим що вірним уважала Того, хто обітував.
By faith, even barren Sarah herself received power to conceive when she was past age, and gave birth, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
12 Тим же і від одного, та ще помертвілого, народилось множество, як зорі небесні і як піску край моря безліч.
Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.
13 По вірі померли гі всі, не прийнявши обітниць, а оддалеки видівши їх, і вірували, і витали, і визнавали, що вони чуженицї і захожі на землї.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.
14 Бо которі таке говорять, виявляють, що отчини шукають.
For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.
15 І справді, коли б ту памятали, з якої вийшли, мали б вони нагоду вернутись.
If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.
16 Нині ж луччої бажають, се єсть небесної; тим і не соромить ся їх Бог, називати ся Богом їх: наготовив бо їм город.
Instead, they were longing for a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
17 Вірою привів Авраам, спокушуваний, Ісаака (на жертву); единородного приніс, прийнявши обітницю,
By faith, Avraham, being tested, offered up Iskhaq; and he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son;
18 про котрого було глаголано: "Що в Ісааку назветь ся тобі насіннє,"
even he to whom it was said, "In Iskhaq will your descendants be called;"
19 подумавши, що і з мертвих силен Бог воскресити; тим і прийняв його в образі (воскресення).
concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.
20 Вірою в грядуще благословив Ісаак Якова та Ісава.
By faith, Iskhaq blessed Yaquv and Isuw, even concerning things to come.
21 Вірою Яков, умираючи, благословив кожного сина Йосифого і "склонивсь на верх жезла свого".
By faith, Yaquv, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Yauseph, and bowed over the top of his staff.
22 Вірою Йосиф, умираючи, про виход синів Ізраїлевих згадав, а про кости свої заповів.
By faith, Yauseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the people of Israyel; and gave instructions concerning his bones.
23 Вірою Мойсей, народившись, хований був три місяці від батьків своїх, коли виділи вони, що дитина гарна, і не злякались повеління царського.
By faith, Mushe, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
24 Вірою Мойсей, бувши великим, відрік ся звати ся сином дочки Фараонової,
By faith, Mushe, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,
25 а лучче зводив страдати з людьми Божими, нїж дізнавати дочасної розкоші гріха,
choosing rather to share ill treatment with God's people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;
26 більшим багацтвом над Єгипецькі скарби вважаючи наругу Христову; озиравсь бо на нагороду
considering the abuse suffered for the Meshikha greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
27 Вірою покинув Єгипет, не боячись гнїва царевого; устояв бо, яко такий, що Невидомого видить.
By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28 Вірою зробив пасху і пролиттє крови, щоб губитель первороджених не займав їх.
By faith, he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.
29 Вірою перейшли вони Червоне море, як по суходолу; що спробувавши Єгиптяне, потопились.
By faith, they passed through the Red Sea as on dry land. When the Egyptians tried to do so, they were swallowed up.
30 Вірою стїни Єрихонські попадали, після семидневних обходин,
By faith, the walls of Irikhu fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days.
31 Вірою Раава блудниця не згинула з невірними, прийнявши підглядників з миром.
By faith, Rakhav the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.
32 І що мені ще казати? не стане бо мені часу оповідати про Гедеона, та Варака, та Самеона, та Єтая, та про Давида і Самуїла, та про пророків,
What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gedeun, Baraq, Shemshun, Naphtakh, Dawid, Shemuyel, and the prophets;
33 котрі вірою побивали царства, робили правду, одержували обітування, загороджували пащі левам,
who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 гасили силу огняну, втікали від гострого меча, робились потужними від немочи, бували міцні в бою, обертали в ростїч полки чужоземців;
quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and caused foreign armies to flee.
35 жінки приймали мертвих своїх з воекресення; инші ж побиті бували, не прийнявши збавлення, щоб лучче воскресеннє одержати;
Women received their dead by resurrection. And others were tortured, not accepting the payment for release, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
36 другі ж наруги та ран дізнали, та ще й кайдан і темниці;
Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.
37 каміннєм побиті бували, розпилювані, допитувані, смертю від меча вмирали, тинялись в овечих та козиних шкурах, бідуючи, горюючи, мучені,
They were stoned, they were sawed apart, they were put to the test, they were killed with the sword. They went around in sheepskins and in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, mistreated
38 (котрих не був достоєн сьвіт, ) по пустинях скитались та по горах та по вертепах і проваллях земних:
(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.
39 І всї ці, одержавши сьвідченнє вірою, не прийняли обітування,
These all, having had testimony given to them through their faith, did not receive the promise,
40 тим що Бог лучче щось про нас провидів, щоб не без нас осягли звершеннє.
God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
