До галатів 4
1 Глаголю ж: доки наслїдник малолїток, доти не відрізняеть ся від слуги, хоч він і пан усього,
But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, though he is lord of all;
2 а єсть під опікунами та доморядниками аж до нароку отця.
but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.
3 Так же й ми, як були малолітками, були підневолені первотинами сьвіта.
So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.
4 Як же прийшла повня часу, послав Бог Сина свого, що родивсь від жени і був під законом,
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,
5 щоб викупив тих, що під законом, щоб ми прийняли всиновленнє.
that he might redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6 А що ви сини, то послав Бог Духа Сина свого в серця ваші, що покликує: Авва, Отче!
And because you are sons, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba, Father."
7 Тимже вже більш не невільник єси, а син; коли ж син, то й наслїдник Божий через Христа.
So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God.
8 Тільки ж тодї, не знаючи Бога, служили ви тим, що не по природі були богами.
However at that time, not knowing God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
9 Тепер же, знаючи Бога, більше ж будучи познані від Бога, як вертаєтесь до немочних та мізерних первотин, котрим знов наново служити хочете?
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?
10 Ви вважаєте на днї, місяцї, пори й лїта.
You observe days, months, seasons, and years.
11 Боюсь за вас, що може марно працював коло вас.
I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.
12 Будьте, браттє, благаю вас, як і я: бо й я (такий), як ви. Нічим ви мене не скривдили.
I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,
13 Ви ж знаєте, що я у немощі тїла благовістив вам перше.
but you know that in physical weakness I preached the Good News to you the first time;
14 І не погордували ви спокусою, що була в тїлї моїм, анї відопхнули, а як ангела Божого прийняли мене, як Христа Ісуса.
and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
15 Яке ж то було блаженство ваше! Сьвідкую бо вам, що коли б можна, ви б тодї, вирвавши очі свої, оддали менї.
Where was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
16 То чи вже став я ворогом вам, говорячи вам правду?
So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17 Ревнують про вас не добре, а хочуть відлучити вас, щоб ви про них ревнували.
They zealously seek you, but for no good purpose; they desire to alienate you, that you may be zealous for them.
18 Добре ж ревнувати всякого часу в доброму, тай не тільки, як я приходжу до вас.
But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Дїточки мої, (ви, ) котрими знов мучусь (перед родинами), доки Христос з'образить ся у вас,
My children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—
20 хотїв би я бути у вас сьогоднї і змінити голос мій, бо я в непевности про вас.
but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
21 Скажіть менї, ви, що хочете бути під законом: хиба ви закону не слухаєте?
Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law?
22 Писано бо, що Авраам мав два сини, одного від невольницї, а одного од вільної.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman, and one by the free woman.
23 Та що був од невольницї, родивсь по тілу, а що од вільної, по обітницї.
However, the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.
24 Се ж иносказаннє; се бо два завіти: один з гори Синая, що родить у неволю, котра єсть Агара.
These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to slavery, which is Hagar.
25 Бо Агара, се Синай, гора в Аравиї, прикладаєть ся ж до теперішнього Єрусалиму, і служить з дітьми своїми.
For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and represents Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in slavery with her children.
26 А вишній Єрусалим вільний; він мати всім нам.
But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
27 Писано бо: Звеселись, неплідна, що не роджаєш; гукай та покликуй, ти, що не мучилась; бо в одинокої багато дїтей, більш нїж у тієї, що має чоловіка.
For it is written, "Rejoice, you barren who do not bear. Break forth and shout, you that do not travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband."
28 Ми ж, браттє, по Ісааку дїти обітування.
Now you, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.
29 Та, як тодї, хто родивсь по тілу, гонив того, хто по духу, так і тепер.
But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.
30 Тільки ж бо що глаголе писаннє? Вижени невільницю й сина її, не має бо наслідувати син невільниці з сином вільної.
However what does the Scripture say? "Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not inherit with the son of the free woman."
31 Оце ж, браттє, ми не діти невільниці, а вільної.
So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.
