1 до коринтян 14
1 Прагніть любові, ревно бажайте духовних [дарів], а особливо пророкування.
Strive to possess love; and desire earnestly the spiritual gifts, but especially that of prophesying.
2 Адже той, хто говорить [іншою] мовою, говорить не до людей, а до Бога, бо ніхто [його] не розуміє, і він духом говорить таємниці.
For he that speaketh in an [[unknown]] tongue speaketh not to men, but to God; for no one heareth; but in the Spirit he speaketh mysteries;
3 А той, хто пророкує, говорить до людей для збудування, підбадьорення та втіхи.
but he that prophesieth speaketh to men edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 Той, хто говорить мовою, збудовує самого себе, а той, хто пророкує, збудовує церкву.
He that speaketh in an [[unknown]] tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 Я бажав би, щоб усі з вас говорили [іншими] мовами, але більше – щоб пророкували. Той, хто пророкує, більший за того, хто говорить [іншими] мовами, хіба що хтось перекладає, щоб церква отримала [духовне] збудування.
I would that ye all spoke with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied; for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, unless he interpret, that the church may receive edification.
6 Тепер, брати, якщо я прийду до вас, говорячи [іншими] мовами, чим принесу вам користь, якщо не говоритиму через одкровення, або через пізнання, або через пророцтво, або через повчання?
But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by teaching?
7 Бо й неживі предмети, що мають звучання, – чи то сопілка, чи то арфа, – якщо не видають різних звуків, то як хтось дізнається, що на них грається?
And even things without life that give sound, whether pipe or harp, if they make no distinction in the sounds, how shall that be known which is piped or harped?
8 Адже якщо сурма видасть невиразний звук, то хто готуватиметься до бою?
For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for the battle?
9 Так само й ви: якщо язиком скажете незрозуміле слово, то як вас хтось зрозуміє? Будете говорити на вітер.
So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall that be known which is spoken? For ye will be speaking into the air.
10 Звісно, у світі є багато всяких мов, і жодна [з них] не є беззмістовною.
There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and not one is without meaning.
11 Тож якщо я не розумію значення тієї мови, то буду чужинцем для того, хто говорить, а він буде чужинцем для мене.
If then I know not the meaning of the language, I shall be to him that speaketh a foreigner, and he that speaketh a foreigner to me.
12 Так само й ви: якщо вже сповнені ревності щодо духовних [дарів], то намагайтеся мати їх вдосталь для збудування церкви.
So also ye, since ye are eager to possess spiritual gifts, be earnest to abound in them to the edification of the church.
13 Тому той, хто говорить [іншою] мовою, нехай молиться, щоб [умів її] перекласти.
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an [[unknown]] tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 Адже якщо я молюся [іншою] мовою, то мій дух молиться, а розум безплідний.
For if I pray in an [[unknown]] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 Що ж мені робити? Я молитимуся духом, але молитимуся й розумом, також я співатиму духом, але співатиму й розумом.
How stands it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Адже якщо ти дякуєш [лише] духом, то хіба може на твої слова подяки казати «амінь» той, хто не розуміє, що ти кажеш?
Else, if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, since he understandeth not what thou art saying?
17 Ти добре дякуєш, але інший не збудується.
For thou indeed givest thanks well; but the other is not edified.
18 Я дякую Богові за те, що розмовляю мовами більше, ніж усі ви,
I thank God, I speak in an [[unknown]] tongue more than ye all;
19 але в церкві краще скажу п’ять слів власним розумом, щоб навчити інших, аніж тисячу слів [іншими] мовами.
yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might also instruct others, than ten thousand words in an [[unknown]] tongue.
20 Брати, не будьте дітьми в думках! Навпаки, будьте немовлятами щодо зла, а в думках будьте дорослими.
Brethren, do not become children in understanding; yet in malice be children, but in understanding be men.
21 У Законі написано: «Іншими мовами та через інші вуста буду промовляти до цього народу, але й тоді не послухають, – каже Господь».
In the Law it is written: “With men of other tongues and with other lips will I speak to this people,
22 Отже, мови – це знак не для віруючих, а для невіруючих. Пророцтво ж не для невіруючих, а для віруючих.
and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.” Wherefore the tongues are for a sign, not to believers, but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Тож коли вся церква збереться разом і всі говоритимуть [іншими] мовами, але зайдуть прості люди або невіруючі, хіба вони не назвуть вас божевільними?
If therefore the whole church be assembled in one place, and all be speaking with tongues, and there come in those who are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 Проте якщо ви всі пророкуватимете й зайде хтось невіруючий або недосвідчений, то всі його викриватимуть та осуджуватимуть.
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that is an unbeliever, or unlearned, he is convinced by all, he is searched through by all,
25 Тоді виявляться таємниці його серця, а він впаде ниць та поклониться Богу, кажучи: «І справді, між вами Бог!»
the secrets of his heart become manifest; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God, and report that God is indeed within you.
26 Як же тоді бути, брати? Коли збираєтесь разом і в кожного з вас є псалом, повчання, одкровення, мова, переклад, – нехай усе буде на збудування [церкви].
How is it then, brethren? When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a lesson of instruction, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation; let all things be done for edification.
27 Якщо хтось говорить [іншою] мовою, то нехай по черзі говорять двоє, щонайбільше троє, а один перекладає.
If any one speak in an [[unknown]] tongue, let it be by two, or, at the most, by three, and in turn; and let one interpret.
28 А якщо немає перекладача, то такі нехай мовчать у церкві та говорять до себе та до Бога.
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29 Нехай двоє або троє пророків говорять, а всі інші розмірковують.
And of the prophets let two or three speak, and let the others judge;
30 Якщо ж іншому, який сидить, прийшло одкровення, то перший нехай мовчить.
if anything be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first speaker be silent.
31 Адже всі ви можете пророкувати по черзі, щоб усі навчалися та втішалися.
For one by one ye can all prophesy, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted.
32 І духи пророків підкорюються пророкам,
And spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;
33 адже [Бог] – Бог не безладу, а миру. Як і в усіх церквах святих,
for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
34 жінки повинні мовчати в церкві, адже їм не дозволено говорити, а лише підкорятися, як і говорить Закон.
let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted them to speak, but they are to be in subjection, as also saith the Law.
35 Якщо ж вони бажають чогось навчитися, то нехай спитають вдома у своїх чоловіків, адже соромно для жінки говорити в церкві.
And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
36 Хіба від вас походить Боже Слово? Чи лише вас досягнуло?
What! Did the word of God come forth from you? Or did it come to you alone?
37 Якщо хтось думає, що він пророк або духовно [наділений], то нехай зрозуміє, що те, про що я пишу вам, – це заповідь Господа.
If any one thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him know surely that the directions I am writing to you are the Lord's;
38 А коли хтось [цього] не визнає, то і його не визнають.
but if any one be ignorant, let him be ignorant!
39 Отже, брати мої, ревно бажайте пророкувати та не забороняйте [інших] мов.
Wherefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues;
40 Нехай усе буде пристойно й організовано.
but let all things be done becomingly, and in order.
