1 Mmuaeɛ pa dwodwo abufuo, nanso asɛm a ano yɛ den hwanyane abufuo mu.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
2 Onyansafoɔ tɛkrɛma yi nimdeɛ ayɛ, nanso ɔkwasea ano woro agyimisɛm.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.
3 Awurade ani hunu baabiara, na ɛhwɛ amumuyɛfoɔ ne apapafoɔ.
Adonai’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
4 Tɛkrɛma a ɛde abodwoɔ ba yɛ nkwa dua, nanso nnaadaa tɛkrɛma dwerɛ honhom.
A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.
5 Ɔkwasea mmfa nʼagya ntenesoɔ nyɛ hwee, na deɛ ɔtie ntenesoɔ no kyerɛ sɛ ɔyɛ ɔnitefoɔ.
A fool despises his father’s correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.
6 Ahonya bebree wɔ ɔteneneeni fie, nanso amumuyɛfoɔ adenya de ɔhaw brɛ wɔn.
In the house of the upright is much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.
7 Anyansafoɔ ano trɛtrɛ nimdeɛ mu; nanso ɛnyɛ saa na nkwaseafoɔ akoma teɛ.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.
8 Awurade kyiri amumuyɛfoɔ afɔrebɔ, nanso teefoɔ mpaeɛbɔ sɔ nʼani.
The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to Adonai, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Awurade kyiri amumuyɛfoɔ akwan, nanso ɔdɔ wɔn a wɔti tenenee.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to Adonai, but he 'ahav ·affectionately loves· him who follows after righteousness.
10 Asotwe denden wɔ hɔ ma dea ɔmane firi ɛkwan no so, deɛ ɔtane ntenesoɔ no bɛwu.
There is stern discipline for one who forsakes the way: whoever hates reproof shall die.
11 Owuo ne Ɔsɛeɛ da Awurade anim, na nnipa akoma mu deɛ, ɔnim ma ɛboro so. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol ·Place of the dead· and Abaddon ·Destruction, Unrighteous side of Sheol· are before Adonai, how much more then the hearts of the children of men! (Sheol h7585)
12 Ɔfɛdifoɔ mpɛ ntenesoɔ; ɔnnkɔbisa anyansafoɔ hwee.
A scoffer does not 'ahav ·affectionately love· to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.
13 Anigyeɛ akoma ma anim yɛ seresere, na akoma a abotoɔ dwerɛ honhom.
A glad heart makes a cheerful face; but an aching heart breaks the spirit.
14 Nhunumufoɔ akoma hwehwɛ nimdeɛ, nanso ɔkwasea ano ka agyimisɛm.
The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 Wɔn a wɔhyɛ wɔn so nna nyinaa yɛ mmɔbɔmmɔbɔ, nanso anigyeɛ akoma wɔ daa ahosɛpɛ mu.
All the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.
16 Ketewa bi a yɛnya a Awurade suro ka ho no yɛ sene ahonyadeɛ bebree a ɔhaw bata ho.
Better is little, with the fear of Adonai, than great treasure with trouble.
17 Nhahamma aduane a ɔdɔ wɔ mu no yɛ sene nantwie sradenam a ɔtan bata ho.
Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, than a fattened calf with hatred.
18 Deɛ ne bo fu ntɛm de mpaapaemu ba, nanso deɛ ɔwɔ ntoboaseɛ pata ntɔkwa.
A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.
19 Nkasɛɛ ama onihafoɔ kwan asi, nanso teneneefoɔ kwan yɛ tempɔn.
The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.
20 Ɔba nyansafoɔ ma nʼagya ani gye nanso ɔba kwasea bu ne maame animtiaa.
A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Agyimisɛm ma deɛ ɔnni adwene ani gye, nanso deɛ ɔwɔ nteaseɛ no fa ɛkwan a ɛtene so.
Folly is joy to one who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding keeps his way straight.
22 Nhyehyɛeɛ a ɛnni afotuo no sɛe, nanso afotufoɔ bebree ma ɛyɛ yie.
Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.
23 Onipa a ɔma mmuaeɛ a ɛfata no ani gye, asɛm a ɛba berɛ pa mu no nso yɛ.
Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!
24 Onyansafoɔ asetena mu kwan ma no nkɔsoɔ ɛsi ne da mu korɔ ho ɛkwan. (Sheol h7585)
The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol ·Place of the dead·. (Sheol h7585)
25 Awurade sɛe ɔhantanni fie na ɔma akunafoɔ ahyeɛ yɛ pɛpɛɛpɛ.
Adonai will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.
26 Awurade kyiri amumuyɛfoɔ nsusuiɛ, nanso nʼani sɔ wɔn a wɔyɛ kronn no deɛ.
Adonai detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.
27 Ɔdufudepɛfoɔ de ɔhaw brɛ nʼabusua, nanso deɛ ɔkyiri kɛtɛasehyɛ no bɛnya nkwa.
He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.
28 Ɔteneneeni akoma kari ne mmuaeɛ, nanso omumuyɛfoɔ ano woro bɔne.
The heart of the upright weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.
29 Awurade mmɛn amumuyɛfoɔ koraa nanso ɔte ɔteneneeni mpaeɛbɔ.
Adonai is far from the wicked, but he sh'ma ·hears obeys· the prayer of the upright.
30 Animu a ɛteɛ ma akoma nya ahomeka, na asɛm pa ma nnompe ahoɔden.
The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones.
31 Deɛ ɔtie animka a ɛma nkwa no ne anyansafoɔ bɛbɔ mu atena ase.
The ear that sh'ma ·hears obeys· reproof lives, and will be at home among the wise.
32 Deɛ ɔmfa ahohyɛsoɔ no bu ne ho animtiaa, na deɛ ɔtie ntenesoɔ no nya nhunumu.
He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who sh'ma ·hears obeys· reproof gets understanding.
33 Awurade suro kyerɛ onipa nyansa, ahobrɛaseɛ di animuonyam anim.
The fear of Adonai teaches wisdom. Before kavod ·weighty glory· is humility.
